@boomzilla That second one applies to just about everything in politics.

@xaade I don't think that's accurate. The democrats are far from extremely liberal, they're just another shade of conservative, at least from a European perspective. Sanders is the only actual left-wing candidate I've seen in years, and even he is not nearly as far left as you guys seem to think he is. (And I have no idea why he calls himself a socialist, because he's clearly not one.)
-
I purposely left out (D) and (R) markings.
I purposely inverted the colors. From what I can tell, this applies pretty much everywhere within its own political environment.
-
@xaade In that case, ignore my post.
Still, the political landscape is the reason I'll never move to the US permanently. That, and the US justice system.

I don't think you can really compare the two. I know a UK liberal that I agree with more than any Democrat. Europe isn't necessarily shifted left from US.
You have France historically telling Muslims not to wear religious headwear. You have UK conservatives that are privatizing everything (something Republicans don't even suggest).
From everything I've read, viewing Europe as absolutely shifted left from America is something that uninformed US liberals advocate because they really don't understand why progressive efforts in America are morbidly less successful than markedly similar progressive efforts in Europe.

Generally speaking, the US justice system is fine if you generally try to obey the law for any person, any race, gender, etc.
It's where people repeatedly disobey that the system is bias against minorities.
I liken it to the image where both people choose to jump into a pit, but the minority has the stairs out removed.

Did you know that just makes it follow the usual colours used in Europe for those ends of the spectrum? (Except we tend to view “Liberal” as a centrist position: “two countries separated by a common language” and all that. )

OK, there is definitely some truth in that.

It's where people repeatedly disobey that the system is bias against minorities.I'm not talking about inequality here, I'm talking about the unhealthy focus on punishment vs rehabilitation. Aside from the fact that I find that highly questionable in itself, it forms a toxic combination together with the jury system and the fact that it's notoriously hard to reverse a verdict in the US. The end result is that people who have been convicted based on questionable evidence often stay imprisoned for the rest of their lives.
…but maybe we shouldn't have that discussion in this thread.

@dkf said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:

And you would be correct.
Liberal was hijacked by democrats in the 50s, but it doesn't really describe them now, so they prefer the term progressive, but it hasn't stuck.
So, the original liberals in America adopted Libertarian.

Not to mention four corners of Chile, Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay.
And General Peace.
And 1st of May, and 2nd of May.
And Land of Fire.

What's funny about that one? Tierra del Fuego is an area of Argentina (and Chile) at the southern tip of South America.

General Peace, right next to Land of Fire? Shirley that's funny, no?

There were 4 Catholic ladies. They were bragging about their sons.
The First Lady said, " my son is a Priest. When he walks into a room, everyone calls him Father." The second lady said, " my son is a Bishop. When he walks into a room, they call him, your grace." The third lady said, " my son is a Cardinal. When he walks into a room, they call him your eminence." The fourth lady said, my son is 6 ft 3, has broad shoulders, is incredibly good looking, dresses impeccably well and when he walks into a room, all the ladies say, " Oh, my God!"

another funny one, the sad thing is that General Paz was involved in the genocide of the indians who lived in the patagonia.
.And Land of Fire.
the southern part of argentina, called like that because the conquerors saw lots of fires from their ships (partly 'd), they weren't particularly imaginative, we have an area with rivers from First to Sixth

@ben_lubar I can't comprehend the humor in this image. Is it the woman with the weird toolbelt?

With that context, now I know that neither of the people pictured are women. But I still can't see how that's funny? Or is it funny like, "Haha I got a selfie with a potential mass murderer!" funny?

He said the photo, which was taken by a member of the cabin crew, was the "best selfie ever".
I always thought the definition of 'selfie' was that the photo has to be taken by someone actually in the photo?

Here's one for @accalia :-D
or possibly one written be @accaliaStudy: People Who Point Out Typos Are Jerks
According to a bunch of fancy linguists, people who are more sensitive to written typos and grammatical errors are indeed the kinds of Type >A assholes everyone already suspects them to be.
The findings came from a new study out of the University of Michigan.

Apparently "denim hair" is a thing:
Denim hues: Women are dying their hair to replicate 'denim' using blues, lilac and grey
-
@DoctorJones I thought that was "Second rate quicksilver from x-men movies instead of marvel studios" hairstyle.
Seriously, the quicksilver is just a stand-in for "x-men movie gambit not a cajun" they made and abandoned because "X-Men origins (this will be the only one so why subtitle the most important part of the title): Wolverine";
They should have just named the move "Wolverine Begins: because we're going to make a trilogy and start the new naming convention with part 2".
Oh and look, let's show both sides of the head to get a better idea of what it looks like by mirroring the image and not show both sides of the head....
Too bad she didn't braid the denim hair to capture the real pattern of jeans, but you know, that would be hipster cultural appropriation and she'd probably be attacked by a gap store.
