The worst part of cable hoarding is that one time a year you do need an obscure cable and you know you fucking kept it but you'll never find or identify it in your closet full of tangled cables.

@error I'm almost certain there is an optical audio cable hanging around somewhere in my house (or possibly my parents'), that I really could've used a while ago instead of buying a new one.

Babylon Candles can be rather useful...

I know where mine is!

@dcon I know where the new one I bought is (it's connected to my sound system)

@BernieTheBernie I don't read German or recognize the cartoonist. Just reposting something I found elsewhere.

Science, but also Looney Tunes logic where you only die a beat after you realize your mistake.

Really, any answer but one would elicit the same response.
"Who's president?"
"A hairball my cat hacked up on the carpet."
"Thank god! Unpack my bags and smash the teleporter!"

My first ever encounter with Garfield was through a German translation that a friend brought back from a trip in Germany (no idea why they decided to buy and bring back that specific comic...).
For years I though Garfield was a German comic and was very surprised to see it also existed in English, thinking that was the translated version.

You know how bad 2020's been?
There's a good case to be made that the best movie to come out this year was the live-action adaptation of Sonic The Hedgehog!
When I wrote this a few days ago, it was mostly a joke.
Now I find out that they're pushing back the release of Black Widow until next year...

The last time my father moved, he's thrown out a big box of old cables that we kept around just in case but never really used. A few months later I found myself in sudden need of a DVI-to-HDMI converter, a bunch of USB extension cables, PC power cables and an Ethernet cable, all of which were now gone. Do you know how hard it is to find a DVI-to-HDMI converter these days!?

When you originally posted that, I looked up a list of popular movies released this year, and... yes, Sonic is indeed the best we have.
-
@Gąska Toby Faire, it was a surprisingly good movie, with the exception of the horribly miscast role of Dr. Robotnik.

YES.
Welcome to owning a house. My cat intently dug up a corner of my carpet and I didn't know why until I realized there was a hole beneath that part of the carpet-- there's no crawl space under my house, it has a concrete slab foundation, so for all I know that hole extends to the core of the Earth. I have covered it with a rug for I know that actually figuring out what is going on would cost $1-2k even if I knew what type of expert to call (unexplainable holes, please?).

@TimeBandit Three days! THREE DAYS TO SHIP!!!!! Compare to just walking into any random supermarket and having 10 different brands available right there and then, like you have with most other types of connectors.

Something with the word "holistic" in it, I think.

That's what you get for living in such a large country. Here in cosy little NL, just about every webshop selling to consumers will do next-day delivery on orders before 22:00. Including http://allekabels.nl/

I responded to your remark on @TimeBandit's link, which I assumed to be US-based since the price was in dollars.
-
@PleegWat in Poland, even 3 days is a luxury (that you pay premium for). The standard is 7-14 days, whether it's a tiny dongle or something huge.
-
@Gąska Let me add that to my list of reasons not to move to poland.

Unexplainable holes usually warrant an "exterminator", followed by a "carpenter".
(Despite being called "carpenters", they're usually also competent at pouring concrete.)

I hear stories from the chamber
How Christ was born into a manger
And like some ragged stranger
Died upon the cross
And might I say
It seems so fitting in its way
He was a carpenter by trade
Or at least that's what I'm told
