@Karla said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:
I posted a comment on a YouTube video recently to the effect that the worst advice anyone ever gave was "just be yourself".
First response to the comment was that if I thought that was bad advice I needed psychiatric help.
My response to the response was that if everybody followed the advice "just be yourself", nobody would ever get a job, or a second date.
I'm almost incapable of not being myself, and I manage to get jobs. I concede I'd probably have a much better position if I could.

Does the same apply with relationships?
Edit: Asking for a friend...

@Tsaukpaetra Yes, that didn't stop me from getting married too, but I think that was mostly luck on this one.

Heads must be incredibly weird where you live...

@HardwareGeek A quick google find the story appears here but cites a subreddit in 2014 as the source. so...
Here we go: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1rgpdf/what_is_the_laziest_thing_youve_ever_done/cdnafqe
Interestingly, Snopes doesn't seem to have looked into it, though it sound right up their alley..

It would explain the confusion of where her eyes are.

@Karla That IS an overreaction. You're running the risk of the bullet bouncing back at you, or concrete chips. The proper way is to angle the shot!

That only works if you spend your time on only programming and not, say, babysitting while crossdressing (unbeknownst to either your parents or the people you are babysitting for... maybe I should be putting this in the Bad Ideas thread...):
In "The Saga of Tuck" #50, Ellen Hayes wrote:
"Valerie? If you're gonna lie out here, shouldn't you wear some lotion too?" said a small voice.
I pulled myself up off the table, wondering when I had gone to sleep, and felt my back. Ouch! "Too late," I groaned. I checked Stella, and she was still in the shade, at least. "I'm gonna go back in before I get any worse. But I'll still be watching out of the window, so don't get any ideas."[several hours and a change of identity later, while getting some help from hir sister Susan and their cousin Amy]:
The spray hurt, but the freezing mist had the promise of relief, which is why I let her do it. I had burned almost all my back and my arms too.
"You know, Tuck," she chuckled, "this is gonna HOLY SHIT!"
"What?" I was more confused than usual.
She turned me around by grabbing my body and shifting me, which made me say a rude word or three, but she didn't even hear them. "Tuck!" she hissed. "You're gonna have tan lines!"
"Do what? Of course I am, I got a burn-"
She hit me in the head. "You DORK! What kind of swimsuit were you wearing?"
"My OH SHIT!"
Susan had her head in her hands for a long time, and I thought she was thinking, until she lost it and fell out of the chair laughing. I didn't have enough room to kick her, but that was okay because the reason I didn't was because Amy was in the way, and she was kicking Susan for me.Should'a stuck to the assembly-language coding, Eugene.
The best part is that not only did Ellen admit that this was based on something she actually did as a teen, about a dozen of the forum goers said that they made the same mistake, and that trying to hide it from friends and family who were unaware of their non-standard gendered behavior only made it worse.
