The new 2^n Badges
-
Yes, but you have the prestigious awards for bug hunting. I couldn't be bothered in the end, too much other stuff.
-
Yes, but you have the prestigious awards for bug hunting. I couldn't be bothered in the end, not being paid for it.
FTFY
-
Nope. I'm not that mercenary. I just had other stuff going on in my life like trying to get the hell out of IT consulting into something I don't hate so much.
-
but you have the prestigious awards for bug hunting
I am oddly the only owner of the full bug-hunting trifecta.
Filed Under: probably because most of the other people finding that type of shit got fed up and left.
-
That's a life-long battle.
-
And I started my battle on it.
I'll still be doing IT while the other stuff (hopefully) cranks up, but we'll see. At least what I'm doing right now isn't quite so soul-destroying and doesn't piss people off so much.
-
Life is funny that way.
You want to do what you like, but you need to get paid for it.
I'm debating putting a sign up at my desk that simply says "HEALTH INSURANCE" to remind me why I work there.
-
Yup. And we all know my feelings about where things have been.
-
Feature request.
As we're now going to be spamming viable threads in order to get out "power" badges, we need to know exactly how viable a topic might be. I suggest colour-mapping the second letter of the thread title, somehow. That should be enough information.
-
As we're now going to be spamming viable threads in order to get out "power" badges,
You can only spam to just under 1k posts, at that point you have to get the topic closed so no one accidentally bumps it over @PJH's spam limit and gets it culled from the count.
-
I thought @PJH changed the query:
Hmm - ok, it makes the SQL a bit more complicated - give me a while..
Done. Any more badges handed out?
-
no clue, but you're ruining my jokes
-
As we're now going to be spamming viable threads in order to get out "power" badges
Soo... Nothing changes at all?
-
-
I had 20, now I have 31.You had 16, now you have 28.I had 125% as many as you.Now it's just 111% (and even if you hadn't gained 1 on me from posting more, it'd still just be 115% as many).
I could always remove the 2^(n-1) badge(s) when you get the 2^n badge... (i.e. you can only ever have one of the set rather than every one up to whatever level you're at...)
-
Bonus WTF points if you have off by one errors in the ranges, so sometimes a user will have none of the badges and sometimes two.
-
Totally not impossible....
2^8:
SELECT user_id, current_timestamp granted_at FROM badge_posts where topic_id not in ( 1000, 1673 ) GROUP BY user_id HAVING count(*) > 256 and count(*) <512
2^9
SELECT user_id, current_timestamp granted_at FROM badge_posts where topic_id not in ( 1000, 1673 ) GROUP BY user_id HAVING count(*) > 512 and count(*) <1024
In fact, having looked at that, I've already got an off-by-one error in the existing SQL on which those were based ... (mitigating: it was around midnight when I was doing them...)
ObOT: My @PJHH puppet has 27 posts. Due to the nature of them, the puppet hasn't even reached 2^1...
-
So, that's the Likes thread, Status and Bad Ideas's thead currently being ignored for the purpose of these badges at the moment.
Dang...way to try to kill threads.
-
Keep reading.
-
In my defense, I said try.
-
In fact, having looked at that, I've already got an off-by-one error in the existing SQL on which those were based
Fixed. A few more badges handed out: (I'd fluffed by using> 2^x
instead of>= 2^x
):
-
And if deleting the fucking likes column can't kill the Likes thread, some stinkin' badges won't either.
-
So I'm probably asking in the wrong place - what are badges? Do they appear somewhere on the screen?
-
Look in your profile. There's a section for them. Also:
-
Thank you @boomzilla - it seems I have 2 without realising!

an excessive number
Inb4 @ben_lubar posting a huge image of the number 3 (with ornaments).

Nice logarithmic progression we have here. I made a graph:
Look at that sexy curve... oops, wrong thread!
-
On another note, I actually have three different Mediocre Poster badges apparently, and all can be set as title. (It shows up three times in the SELECT.)
This has now been addressed.

This has now been addressed.
That was fast, they must have finished dicking around with heatmaps.
-
No. They've got a new volunteer supplying PR's.
-
@cpradio has an account here, too (he was there first).
-
...the hell? I've posted over 100 times? So much for being a lurker >.>

This has now been addressed.
Yay I've contributed to giving Atwood money for this ball of wolf dung. Thanks, I feel so much better now.

209 according to your profile. Not all of them would count though...

So what happens when someone registers the username "my"?

So what happens when someone registers the username "my"?
They'll trigger a discourse regression related to minimum username length.
-
So what happens when someone registers the username "my"?
The url would be /users/my instead of just /my

TBH. I like. Others may not. YMMV, IMO, WTF BBQ.
-
I like it either way. Badges for all.
-
Poll constructed - we'll see what happens...
-
Yeah, I'm more in "lurker" status here, enjoying the conversations Unfortunately, I suck at remembering I signed up at a new forum and I need to visit there more often, so I missed out on most of the mentions (saw them now though!)
If the Discourse team isn't going to fix the issues, I might as well try (they seem to be accepting my PR, some faster than others, not sure what constitutes that...)

Necro-ing for a question: Is there a process to nominate a topic for exclusion from the 2^n badges? Because I'd like to nominate that the questions topic get excluded.
CC: @PJH
-
Nooooooooooooooooo don't make the 2^13 badge even harder to attain!
-
I don't know the criteria used for a topic to automatically be excluded, but...
Examples of posts that are automatically excluded are (a) The Likes thread (and any thread with an 'excessive' number of posts), (b) Any post to a topic in a restricted category (One Post, Lounge) and (c) Private messages. Please note that topics may automatically enter the exclusion category and may result in the temporary withdrawal of a badge until you have made a sufficient number of eligible posts to make up the count.
-

Ditto here!
besides, that topic, while it is very long is actually interesting to read, while the likes thread is not... so i wouldn't (personally) categorize it as spamy.
you'll notice i rarely actually post in the likes thread anymore, for that very reason.
-
I just think it's beginning to enter the range of this part:
Examples of posts that are automatically excluded are (a) The Likes thread (and any thread with an 'excessive' number of posts), (b) Any post to a topic in a restricted category (One Post, Lounge) and (c) Private messages. Please note that topics may automatically enter the exclusion category and may result in the temporary withdrawal of a badge until you have made a sufficient number of eligible posts to make up the count.
And I would say it's spammy. When you have a topic that's 100s of posts per day, mostly by the same 3-4 people, that seems pretty spammy.
-
Because I'd like to nominate that the questions topic get excluded.
It already is. Has been for quite a while.
