You were the one calling for free :badgers:!
I just point out the weakness in your plan.

Well that's fine with me. I'd rather have badgers anyway.

Wait, did I just get suckered into liking every post?
'Fraid so.
There's no rule in the OP that says anyone has to like every post in this topic. I certainly haven't been following the rule that doesn't exist. :P

That oversight has now been corrected. ;)

Ex post facto laws are unconstitutional.

Do you see a constitution around here?

Disconstitution?

Wait, organize a campaign sounds like work. I am going to just ignore this silly rule; anyone who agrees can join with me. It'd be cool if you told the man where to stick his rule — or not; it's up to you. It's all cool, man. Peace.

You sound like a hippie. I thought hippies were all about sharing the
lovelikes.

A few weeks ago, I looked like one, too. But I'm not really; I just got into the protest groove there for a couple of minutes.

I thought it was decided up-thread to not let them run amok in here, in order for them not to be blamed for any cooties that may occur before whatever fix is needed to allow T-1000 to be brought back to normal operation.
The thread's short enough at the moment that it shouldn't cause an issue
Fixed easily enough by making Likes Thread #3 at 1000 posts. Or 10k if you want to be like Hummingbird.

I wonder if Jeff's gone over to that other forum who had their "Count to a million" topic with like 200k+ posts and told them they are Doing It Wrong™ yet?
-
Of course not, they're not us and clearly are using it the way it was intended...
-
One forum I was on started their second big-ass-thread when the first one reached the number of Pokemon in the then-current generation.
Then they stopped #2 at some point and resumed #1 - and it's still going (very slowly, though).
-
Anyone seen the latest bikeshed adventure?
-
Eh, it's not the worst bikeshedding we've seen
-
It's not the worse, but it's still silly IMO.
Notifications got merged into the user menu because there were too many glyphsIt also has Jeff essentially telling someone with a widescreen display that using Discourse in its default zoom is Doing It Wrong™. Because it's the users fault that Discourse wastes space, natch.
@codingwhorror said:
Well, that's because I run my browsers full-zoom (ala iPad). If you have browsers with giant exaggerated whitespace on each side, then yeah. But you're wasting a ton of space on nothing.
To 'solve' it - the new 'hamburger' menu behaves differently depending on viewport width.
Oh, and the reason behind this...
@codinghorror said:
LOL. My main beef with hamburger, and customers have complained, is that there is no way to jump to New, Unread, etc. It's missing a bunch of stuff!
... and none of this stuff has been added. Just a different behaviour of the menu. Sometimes.
Also, there's a point where it introduces a new scrollbar unnecessarily and Jeff just points out that the iOS/OSX way of hiding the scrollbar is best.
Edit: And PREFERENCES is gone from the user menu. You now need to go to your profile first. Because clearly no-one uses the user menu to get to their preferences. Or log out. That's gone from the menu too.
-
WTF?
-
Jeff just points out that the iOS/OSX way of hiding the scrollbar is best.
While this is proof that even Jeff is incapable of being wrong 100% of the time, it doesn't mean that what he said was relevant.
-

How long will we get to keep notifications? Surely there must be a point where there are too many menu items if 3 glyphs and an avatar are "too many".

I will admit that hiding the scrollbar when it has no relevance to the UI, such as in discourse, can serve a purpose. As does hiding the scrollbar when there is limited screenspace (hello mobile!). But why bother hiding the scrollbar in other cases? It does a few useful things:
- Tells you the page scrolls!
- Tells you about where you are in the document.
- Gives you a way to easily navigate to an apdproximate location in the pages just grab the bar and drag. Hide the scrollbar and that is no longer an obvious option.
So how is hiding the scrollbar - in general - a Good Idea™?
-
Or log out. That's gone from the menu too.
But why would anyone ever want to do that?
-
Tells you the page scrolls!
The scrollbar shows and fades out when the page loads. It also shows immediately if you try to scroll.
Tells you about where you are in the document.
That's the thing that's missing, but it's not usually as big a deal as all that. Move the page a few pixels and you can see where you are.
Gives you a way to easily navigate to an apdproximate location in the pages just grab the bar and drag. Hide the scrollbar and that is no longer an obvious option.
The OSX experience is much more closely optimised for having a touchpad immediately available; the two-finger scroll gesture is easily done, works really well and feels natural (better than I've seen on any Windows device I've used, across a substantial number of manufacturers).
Let's be clear: I do occasionally miss the standard scrollbar, but having the extra screen space is also a good thing.
-
Sigh. I'm afraid @PJH won't be able to CSS it back like it was...

So we should start a backup-backup like thread? A splinter thread?

?

Are you saying that we should start yet another likes thread with the rule baked in from the start?

Because I can do that.

Are you saying you want a backup backup likes thread?
Is this the questions thread now?
-
You don't like having your questions answered with questions?

Did I say that?

Did I err by inferring that?

Indeed, was I not merely asking if it was the questions thread?
