@Cursorkeys Could you replace with CR2032? Those should be cheaply available.
It's a bit big but I could if I could find one rated to 105 or 125°C. This thing runs in a (potentially) really hot environment. Everything is high temperature rated.
So far all I've found is these Poly-carbomonoflouride ones and 1/2 AA Thionyl chloride (would just fit maybe). Then once you get to full AA size there's loads of high-temp options but that's no good.
-
@Cursorkeys I'd just run a jumper wire to outside of the really hot environment. Then you even have ease of access replacing the battery.
-
@heterodox The graphics card I ordered said it'd be available on the 20th, so I put in my order. Then they said they'd give it to me on the 24th, so I paid extra to ship it by this friday. Expecting it monday anyway.

Status: My phone is great. Except lately, calling people from my apartment doesn't always work - yet skype always does. When the phone lets me dial, my voice is super quiet at home. Yet elsewhere it works fine.
Also, my battery dies fairly quickly if I use my phone very much.
I'm hoping Microsoft goes full iPhone and releases a single Surface Phone model this year... an upgrade would be nice. But even if they do, chances are Verizon will just not support it.
-
@heterodox Prime has always given you the option to do no-rush shipping and given you a little gift certificate. What are you confused about?
The bigger issue is you can't get anything on Prime Now for $5 unless you're an asshole and stiff the guy on the tip.

Status: WiFi card died on my laptop last Sunday. No amount of reinstalling drivers, messing with the device manager or rebooting the PC helped. I'm traveling, so sending it for repairs from the manufacturer is complicated. Still, I open a support ticket and they recommend resetting to factory settings as a solution, and if that doesn't work sending it for repairs when I'm at a stable location.
I don't expect the wifi to be repaired by resetting the machine, but since i'd be losing the data anyway I give it a try. Computer reboots a few times, comes back to the initial set up screen.
First thing it asks is that I pick a network. Damn wifi now works and can pick up the available networks. Goes to show how much I know about computers.

This is obviously some strange usage of the word "great" that I wasn't previously aware of.

Where it uses "HD" calling over Wi-Fi.

Where it tries to use Wi-Fi calling, fails, tries to use VoLTE, fails, and falls back to good old-fashioned GSM/CDMA/DEN.

@Applied-Mediocrity I blame verizon: this is new within the past 4 months or so.
-
Well then.
Status: My phone is great also.- the proximity sensor is borked - the display won't turn back on unless that fucker is covered and pressed on
- unless in hands-free mode, I might as well speak Lojban (although this has been useful for trolling survey people - when I've really said "I like fisting small animals (*)" and they've said "ok, that's fine, next question")
- the lower part of touchscreen (where soft buttons are in portrait mode), doesn't respond anymore (and
adb shell wm size
results in a bootloop) - I forgot it in direct sunlight some time ago and the glue holding the display to the rest of it gradually gave out; it's now almost but not quite a flip phone
I blame Sony timer
I've yet to find any as great as this one was, though. All this year's new models are utter crap.

Status: Googling for how to fix something in your car is hard when you realize you're not sure what it's actually called.
That flap that you can put down (or to the side) over part of the windshield to block the sun (from some angles)...sun visor? Sun shade?
Mine's started to come apart and won't go back together.
-
@Benjamin-Hall Sunvisor. I'd just buy a non-broken second hand one from eBay.
-
@Applied-Mediocrity Again, none of those things sound like your service provider trying to get rid of devices they loathe the very existence of and actively discouraged people from looking at when they carried them.
My device and OS work flawlessly, apart from the expected battery degradation after 3+ years.

Yeah. Does mean I'll have to figure out how to install it. In the mean time, I'll just tape it up out of the way. Also need to fix the headliner in that car...being an adult stinks sometimes. One bill after another.
-
@Benjamin-Hall I'd be surprised if it was more than 4 screws and one cable plug. What car?
-
@loopback0 usually 2 or 3 screws
-
@loopback0 2010 Honda Civic. The one in there has some type of cover over the attachment point to the ceiling, so no clue. I may buy one and see if I can convince whoever I pay to do my headliner to put it in as well. For now, I put a binder clip on it to provide the extra force it needs so it doesn't fall down.
-
@Benjamin-Hall The cover probably can be levered off with a flat head screwdriver, then the attachment screws are underneath.
edit:

I am aware of that. I already explained what I'm confused about. The part right above that where the expected delivery date on two-day shipping is seven days from now.
I'm aware that time includes fulfillment, but the problem is... never mind, I've explained all of this already.

Status: I'm attempting to write up an Azure Function to ingest event data to go into a Event Hub to stream using a Streaming Analytics to store in a Data Lake.
Attempting to download the Visual Studio solution because I'm tired of guessing what properties may or may not exist on objects.
Visual Studio apparently doesn't understand the project file, and wants me to downgrade to 2003 something. I'm running 2015, shouldn't it be good enough?!?!
Why is this so hard? All I need is "Take POST data from HTTP request, shove into datastore". It shouldn't be difficult!!!
-
@Tsaukpaetra I'm guessing they just haven't changed it since 2003, that dialog reads like a pre-2003/post-2003 instruction.

To me it reads like a "we switched formats at some point. Try to parse it and if error assume previous format was used".
It's obvious that the format changed afterward, but the designers of the Loading code didn't think it would ever do so.
It's the same logic that proclaims our game version is out of date when connecting to servers with older map builds.

Well I did it, after finding some magic incantations on SO. now it shoves stuff into the data lake thing at a rate of 100ms per request. Now now to use the data? No idea...

Status: Despite a WTF start to the day (why do people think they're allowed to get in accidents at rush hour on an expressway? and why does LaTeX have the most error messages, especially on totally normal input?), things are going well. Mainly because I realized that a major source of upcoming stress (writing a self-reflection as part of my annual evaluation) had already been done at the end of last year (instead of being due next week).
So I'm relieved. Now I just have 2 letters of recommendation to write by 1 October.

Is it so impossible to determine if this is true or not, and simply tell me I'm going to be charged? Why are you putting upon me the onus of determining if these two resources are in different regions?

Is there a call to ask which region each of the bits is located in? If not (because it is context for the creation call but the information isn't then retained) then it is actually easier for you to work it out than for the code…

I don't develop for Azure's backend, but if they're able to fetch a list of available items to shove in the box, that list of items should be able to contain such demographic information such as what region it's in....
What's fun is that even though I used said drop-down box to fill out the thing, now that I go back into it it pretends like I didn't and instead tells me I manually filled it out (with some blank info as well), and I have to redo most of the form each time I need to make an adjustment to it.

Follow-up status to my earlier complaint about LaTeX errors--
Turns out that including the
pdfpages
module breaks something horribly. What? Not clear. But the errors don't show up until it's parsing nearly 200 lines later. And give no clue that it's what's wrong. Good thing that including that package was only needed for a feature that's not operational yet, so the solution (after hours of cursing the stupid machine) was to simply remove that line.

I've found some long Reddit thread about people being mad because someone said "Bumfuckistan". One of the comments references a story how everyone once lost their shit because someone called some country a shithole. Even though everyone agrees it really is a shithole. The funniest thing is that thread predates Trump's presidency by 4 years.

Well, new Chrome has swapped the URL and Title of suggestions in the address bar, so now instead of my eyes seeing the URL I want, I have to look in a different inconsistent place to get past the useless page titles that usually have (3) and the title of the website and nothing else of interest. That will take some getting used to.
