As my ex-wife used to say (and probably still does, but I don't have to listen to her anymore), "No, you're not. If you were really sorry, you wouldn't have done it in the first place."

@hardwaregeek I don't recall where I read the statement "People find it easier to say 'no offence intended', than to actually refrain from causing offence'."

With all the special getting offended because you don't think like them, it's getting really hard not to cause offence
-
@timebandit It was more about people pre-emptively saying 'no offence intended' before anyone even expressed taking offence.

I swear to God my government counterpart has anterograde amnesia. A routine firewall change has been on the agenda of a weekly meeting for three weeks and each time we discussed it amiably. But then I actually submit it as a configuration item for approval and the response is "WHOA WHOA WHOA, hold off on the voting, we can't open a port from x to y (getting the source and destination completely backwards), this looks like a non-standard port (it's not), where are the updates to your network diagram (ugh), we're going to have to re-do all of these security checklists (we're not)..." Happens every. fucking. time. Makes it so hard to do my job.
We all get on a call, only takes 10 minutes or so to sort out the misunderstandings, everyone concurs it’s routine and we should move forward. Then once we’re all off the phone he sends an update that the change will be approved as soon as the hosting provider signs off.
... The hosting provider will do whatever we damn well tell them to do. They are not the cognizant authority and they don’t enter into risk management decisions. With all these made-up hurdles I’m starting to suspect a toxic CYA mentality.

Let's see:
On one hand
government counterpart
, on the othertoxic CYA mentality
. Conclusion: Redundant words are redundant and say the same thing all over again.Status: Feeling salty at my previous self for not ticking the right box. Cost me nearly $1,100 in taxes for not having them automatically withheld. Taxes are paid at least. Also got my contract for next year--about a 3.5% raise with no increase in benefit costs (because our premiums are paid 100% for the employee).

A lot of the time he acts as our advocate and our stick to keep things moving forward at the right pace. Then something will "trigger" him out of the blue and he'll scream WHARRGARBL and lay down in front of the tank. It's bizarre and unpredictable.

It should have already been registered though. At least, that's what the DNS console said. Nothing changed in the DNS. But that's the command that "fixed" it.

It must have been a Monday morning thing.
Spent 45 fucking minutes trying different style generics with C# because I couldn't work out that an int on the left hand side wasn't the same as an object.
Over the weekend, I was looking forward to mucking about with my newly acquired Atari ST.
Unfortunately it turned up like this:
It been totally fucked by the delivery company. Seller has refunded me, but any of those in the UK don't use Hermes delivery.
Going to have to find a top side to this old computer now. The guy did a good job of packing it and it got boshed on one side real hard. It going to be really difficult to find a replacement case.
This is really frustrating. This was the best in condition Atari ST I could find that had no serious faults and wasn't for crazy money.
The board and keyboard work for the most part, but Atari ST replacements are hard to find. So frustrating that someone not doing their job properly basically caused this damage.

Consider the following:
settings.MyCustomPage.PagingSize = settings.DashBoardPagingSize;
I had similar code for 25 other settings. So I made everything inherit an interface:
public class IPagingSettings { int PagingSize { get; set; } }
public class MyCustomPage : IPagingSettings { public int PagingSize { get; set; } }
The code had this repeated like 8 times, so I wrote a method that had the following signature:
private static T SetOrIntialisePaging<T>(IPagingSettings settings, int pageSize)
However I did this when calling it:
settings.MyCustomPage.PagingSize = SetOrIntialisePaging<MyCustomPage>(settings.MyCustomPage, pageSize).
All I had to do was remove PagingSize and it would have all have worked first time. I assumed that my static method was somehow wrong, and didn't even consider the left hand side of the statement.

Well the concept was in System Shock too, and that was on a more popular platform.

From now on, all videos you upload to Twitch have to be "premiered", which means that they are livestreamed as if you are streaming. ALL uploads, no exception.
They've been steadily changing this functionality over the past couple months - not necessarily fixing or improving, but just changing. It now copies the metadata and thumbnail from the original upload after the premiere finishes (although they removed the button to edit the original upload and you have to use URL tricks now). It used to be that you could change the countdown delay before the premiere, but that functionality has bugged out and the list of upcoming premieres says there are none. There's still some bugs here and there, I frequently get error messages for failure to save data but then when you refresh the page all the information saved correctly.
At some point they changed it so that the URL you can get once the premiere is in progress is no longer the final URL of the video. I have no idea when they changed it, but now I have to go back and check every URL to see which ones I have to update in my spreadsheet and video descriptions...what a nightmare. EDIT: It appears to be the original URL of the original upload, which is IMO much better but still unexpected.
Oh, and a few days ago they FINALLY added back the ability to just immediately make a video public without a premiere (you know, how it used to work originally before they forced premieres on everyone). You can't schedule a publish date like you could before ("that's what premieres are for!") and you have to wait for the video to finish processing before you have the option, but hey, it's a sign that they are willing to admit it's necessary after all. Perhaps this can help gain back the audience they lost - people wanting to reupload their entire channel from another platform.
As a funny side-effect of premieres counting as livestreams, I'm just about at Twitch Affiliate status. Not that I'd join while YouTube livestreams are so much better, but it's funny that they basically forced me into meeting the minimum requirements.

The last of my YouTube Downloader plugins has broke. I'm not upgrading to a new browser just for that. (It might also have something to do with having to fake a newer useragenet because Gmail keeps switching me to HTML-only mode "for my own good" even though the site works just fucking fine when I fake a newer user-agent you goddamn fuckers).
I'm now at the point of command-line youtube-dl.exe. It works.
Anyone know a quick way to launch of shell command from Firefox?

@lorne-kates It's not quick, but even in a JS-only extension it's doable.
