Successfully applied; now I've just got to actually graduate (get through these last two electives).

Was that a single person berating
meanother, or was the second line a witty rejoinder to the first?

@scholrlea all my boss berating another guy in my team, and rightly so.

@boner That sort of conversation really should be held behind a closed door, even if it is justified. Compliment in public; criticize in private.

Hard to do in an open-plan office.

Conference room. If your open-plan office doesn't include a conference room where confidential (personnel, financial) matters can be discussed in confidence, they're doing it very, very wrong.
Edit: I see your edit. Yeah, bad companies are bad.
-
@hardwaregeek I agree, but if you look at the Filed Under I added, you will see that IME some companies use that office design in a manner opposite to the way it is intended.
Edit: good to see we're on the same page about that.

Status: my gamepad broke down. Specifically, right trigger sometimes registers half push when fully pushed - a very bad thing in racing games. Thanks God that TOCA Race Driver 2 has throttle bar - I'd probably go crazy if I had to figure out on my own why my truck randomly slows down!
$15 gamepad that lasted... 3-4 years? I think something like that. I could probably pinpoint exactly when I've bought it, by the date of the post where I bitched about both triggers being put on a single axis (which I found out a couple days ago to be not true - it's just the Windows gamepad control panel that cannot figure this out). Also, after about 2 years, L1 started to act weird - but I didn't care because most of my games don't require L1 (and for others I remapped it to something else). Overall, I'd say a pretty good deal.
Q: let's pretend gamepad prices are 3x higher than they actually are (compensating for Polish currency and Polish salaries). Would you go with another $50 pad or spend $100 on official PlayStation/XBox controller?

I would buy something custom that uses XInput if you intend to use this on PC ever, or official XBone. I can't stand the bad quality digital input on xbox controllers, but they've got good analog, so it depends on what thing you're doing. And from the sound of it, official may be worth it.

The Xbone one is pretty good, and a yuge improvement over the 360 one.

Sounds like a potentiometer that needs cleaning. Just buy some electronic contact cleaner and bring it back to life.

I've found a good analogy for issues that bounce between organizations (like VPN issues, where local support needs to install the client software, then if there are issues, remote support needs to review the logs you upload, then they may need to reach out to local support themselves to request a network trace...).
My day has been Org 1 helpdesk -> Org 2 helpdesk -> Org 1 helpdesk -> Org 2 helpdesk, so my report to the PM was: "We're at the bottom of the second inning on this issue and Org 2 is up to the plate."
The PM's only response was: "I hope we don't have to go for all nine."

Yes to the second, no to the first.
-
@magus Agreed. The joystick should be on the bottom, not the top.

@pie_flavor I'm not even saying that. If I'm playing Transformers Devastation, Neir Automata, or pretty much any third-person character action game, I'd rather Xbox/gamecube configuration. Anything else, I prefer the playstation configuration.
-
@magus said in The Official Status Thread:

Oh good! For a second there I thought he indicated having a joystick hanging underneath the controller chassis was the "improvement". Not sure if I should be glad I was mistaken...

@magus said in The Official Status Thread:

If you mean the mushy face buttons:
- That's because they were actually analog, believe it or not (99.999% of apps didn't treat them as such)
- That's fixed in the Xbone controller
My only complaint about the Xbone controller is that the USB port on the back is weak and will wear-out long before anything else on it does.

Status: So if I'm reading this right, I need to write a trigger for the UPDATE action for this table, since it currently has an INSERT trigger...
The target 'PRCH_Ownerships' of the MERGE statement has an INSTEAD OF trigger on some, but not all, of the actions specified in the MERGE statement. In a MERGE statement, if any action has an enabled INSTEAD OF trigger on the target, then all actions must have enabled INSTEAD OF triggers.
Wondering if I can just get away with checking the primary key and doing the normal update... I think that's all that would be necessary, yeah?

A recurring theme with one of my clients: Things like, "Please remove <specific row> from the spreadsheet and send back for submittal."
FUCKING REMOVE IT YOURSELF. AS A TAXPAYER, I'M GLAD TO KNOW YOU'RE PAYING $xxx AN HOUR FOR NONSENSE REQUESTS LIKE THIS WHEN YOU COULD HAVE REMOVED IT YOURSELF AND SUBMITTED IT TO ITS DESTINATION TODAY RATHER THAN TOMORROW WHEN YOU GET BACK TO WORK.
I'm cranky tonight.

Status: Got the email from the mailroom that my Nspire had arrived just as I walked out the door to head to my calculus class. We're going over the transition from summations to integrals, which I already knew, so I just finished spending the class setting up the calculator. Of course, I immediately jailbroke it (didn't even need to reboot!), because why not. Also had a minor heart attack when the computer link software didn't accept my license key (why I need one in the first place is beyond me), though I figured out that the CX CAS takes different computer link software than the CX (again: why?).

Status: Oh no! Security issues!
Lets see what they are...
Oh shit! They're multiplying!
Let's see what actually is under those tabs...
Yes, thanks Google, but these are all still in my possession, though the the first phone is actually an emulator I installed. Perhaps I'll chuck that one...
First one is due to old server not knowing better authentication for SMTP. 's fine though, nobody's gotten in that way yet.
Second one is my app I made. Sure, I should probably update it so that it doesn't require ALL THE PERMS!, but lazy. Maybe when I'm bored.
The other issue was just me signing in on my work PC.
Filed under: Someday I should probably change my five-year-old password...
-
@tsaukpaetra Wow, you actually had issues on your account? It gave me the big scary 'security checkup' notification, but then I opened it and everything was checkmarks.

@pie_flavor said in The Official Status Thread:

No, this was in an email I got (apparently) 4 hours ago.Saw the edit. Response now: Nah, my account is so secure, it's been pwned no less than seven times and I haven't heard a whiff of a problem (knocks on wooden table with picture of security screen above printed on paper on it).

@tsaukpaetra Twice here, though funnily enough never on the accounts I specifically use for signing up for stuff that looks like it was copy-pasted from PHP for Dummies.
