@benjamin-hall CSS has a grid? Isn't the idea that HTML is the physical layout and CSS is the visual styling? How is a grid not physical layout?
HTML is the semantics of the content, it marks up what pieces mean what.
CSS alters the style. So, CSS grids tell the pieces where they should go as part of their styling.
Makes sense to me.

That's not true. HTML is the content, and CSS is the presentation. Making assumptions about the presentation (layout on page) based only on the HTML is a recipe for a world of hurt.
Two HTML files that only differ in the
<link href="cssfile.css" rel="stylesheet">
href attribute can appear completely differently, even without a grid involved. A simple test case:<head> <style> header { width: 20%; float: left; background: green; } div { background: blue; width: 50%; } </style> </head> <body> <header><h1>Foo</h1></header> <div>bar</div> </body>
and
<head> <style> header { width: 20%; background: green; } div { background: blue; width: 50%; } </style> </head> <body> <header><h1>Foo</h1></header> <div>bar</div> </body>
appear very different--one is on one line, the other on the second.
Basically, CSS grid brings the most common css layout pattern (the grid) from only working with 3rd-party libraries (bootstrap, etc) into the language itself. This is very good--no need to pull huge external css files in for simple cases. It's like using tables for layout, except actually works without causing insanity.

HTML+CSS work like this in general.

@bb36e although since I'm working dominantly with mobile Safari, the quirks are many and bizarre. Mobile Safari--because every era needs it's IE6.

Yeah, I'm still wondering how scrolling is jacked on a particular site I help administer.
Like, it works fine on literally every other browser, but scrolling on an iDevice? Lol Nope.
To my knowledge there aren't any event listeners or overrides that are causing this either, but I haven't delved into the code very much.
-
@pie_flavor Indeed, never directly use events, if you can avoid it. Use
ICommand
whenever possible, and if you need event stuff, you probably need a custom control. It just gets super messy otherwise.

Status: There was a giant box on my porch matching the source and my address. However, it isn't supposed to be here until tomorrow, and so I wasn't home. One corner of the top was bent up a bit and some of the tape was loose, but no cut marks or rips visible. Inside was the expensive part, the laptop, but the motion controllers and headset were not there. The headset's size and shape would make the package hard to fit through that opening without leaving obvious marks.
I'm very confused. UPS doesn't say it's delivered yet, just that its in my city. I'm going to work from home tomorrow just in case.
EDIT: Okay, they shipped the two separately, and the HEADSET arrives tomorrow!

STATUS: Trying my best to...
Stupid house-moving anxiety is causing sleep issues, so I am quite tired at work. Also, they decided this morning to cancel the usual meeting, instead of figuring that out yesterday (which would have been really easy to do) so I could have stayed in bed for an extra hour. Grr.Also, what retard is behind those stupid "you connected a device to the headphone socket" messages? Useless shit that fills up the Windows notifications and has zero purpose. Also, no way of disabling it in the shitty soundcard software ofc.
And it's nice to see people still think that just because I share office with the caretaker/computer support I can help them with their computers and other issues. Or am interested in knowing they stupidly lost their fob to get through the front door.
Also, seems AMD is also wanting to get in on the whole useless messages game by opening a new website in my browser after finishing the driver install:
Apparently, the driver installer window stating the exact same thing isn't enough. They need to open a fucking website upon closing it too. Cretins.
-
@atazhaia Well, obviously, how else do you expect them to get their usage statistics? Making HTTP requests is hard.
Actually, maybe they use it to set a cookie so that they'll know when you come back to the website.

Realtek, right? IIRC you can ask Windows to swap out the drivers for "Generic HD Audio" and the stupid will abate.
-
@tsaukpaetra Nope. Conexant soundcard in the work laptop. With Bang & Olufsen Audio Control Panel, because of the "hey we're using famous audio brand speakers" factor I guess. I even made a topic about it a while back!

Remember that conversation we had years ago about how I had to delay page unload because I needed to send some analytics data but the only way to do it was utter garbage trash shit?
Turns out Firefox is actually working on it:
Huh. Support is still crappy though.

@blakeyrat said in The Official Status Thread:

better than i expected though.
and the code to prefeentially use sendBeacon isn't that bad all things considering.
window.addEventListener("unload", logData, false); function logData() { if (navigator.sendBeacon) { // Detect and use sendBeacon if possible navigator.sendBeacon("/log", analyticsData); } else { var client = new XMLHttpRequest(); client.open("POST", "/log", false); // third parameter indicates sync xhr client.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "text/plain;charset=UTF-8"); client.send(analyticsData); } }

@accalia Except it's written by idiot browser makers and not real web analytics guys.
I'd never use an XMLHttpRequest for this; my solution's WAY better.
