Status
Hiding from work this week. I have 10.5 days of vacation starting noon on friday and i intend to ensure i have no outstanding tasks while i'm out.
Hence why i'm hiding. :-)

@jazzyjosh No, this is Arseface:

Fucking Christ. I note that these days are always Mondays and Fridays. I don't know why that is. I suppose on Monday I'm worked up by all the issues that have come up over the weekend, and by Friday I'm so loopy I don't know my left from my right.

Force close on launch. Launching the app from the home screen displays a blank screen.
3 hours of attempting to fix later, still not fixed.Great show, guys. Great show.

We already have Kickstarter and Indiegogo.

@tsaukpaetra yes but they have the problem that, for the most part, people believe they're real. This is essentially a proposition for the troll/comedy version of the same.
KickDropper and IndieNoNo

STATUS: Has been getting fewer steps in this weekend and this week (so far). That's because it's pouring rain pretty much 24/7 here. Curse being on the fringes of Harvey. No damage, but everything's sodden.

Agreed. I always type it with a Y first try.

@tsaukpaetra the thing is, I always get it right.

Status: Haha whoops, totally smashed over the Windows installation on the Flipper laptop with OpenSense.
I guess the installer doesn't recognize USB hard drives...
Edit: tit does, just.... magic happened? :/ Ugh.
In other news: Here's to hoping it Does The Right Thing when I just shove it into the headless unit it's going to be staying in...

I heard a nice little chirp tune (I think, hard to tell over the noise of these fans!) so.... maybe?
Now to get a switch and two ethernet cables to see if I get an IP...

Magically, I didn't need a crossover cable! I'm stunned! Stunned I tell you!
Stupid hard drive was really crappy, kept trying to get into the click of death so I swapped it out for a laptop drive I'm no longer using :D
Now to print out all the DD-WRT screens so I can migrate the configs and swap out that POS netgear we're currently using for this beast!

status: Windows is being dang courageous to do updates on battery power...
Also, I tilted the laptop a little too far back. Apparently that means flipped upside down.

TL;DR: The article studies who, why, and when people reuse code from stackOverflow. So far, run of the mill "try to understand the developers because we ain't one of them" research.
But they threw in a bonus question too, and found that the number of bug fixing commits increase on files after stackOverflow code is added.
So, folks. Lay off StackOverflow and think for yourselves!

Auto-MDIX is great until it starts flapping and you lose your sanity. On infrastructure stuff I always lock it along with port speed.
Filed under: It shouldn't but it does...
-
@cursorkeys At least it doesn't tell you to contact you administrator with the error details. While:
- There are no error details.
- You are the administrator.

@cursorkeys
I'm always torn as far as locking port speed. On the one hand, a hard down if a wire gets nicked is easier to troubleshoot. On the other hand, having at least 100/Half operational can usually keep your users online until you find and fix the issue...

today + 2 weeks whenever I check it
Same thing again; it was updated yesterday and said the 11th after that update, but now checking today it says the 12th.
Also, the update was "Passed Quality Assurance" so I'm not sure what else takes two weeks after that. Putting it in the box? Strapping the box to the back of a turtle to walk it to the shipping department?

No need to cause a hard down.

Swedish clients are suddenly in a complete freakout mode about security, so our managers are freaking out about their freakout.
Apparently, there was some kind of data breach in Sweden. So they passed some law that says all data must be stored in Sweden, nothing can leave without written approval etc. Serbia is especially firmly on the shit list, because "Russian spies". Or something.
Does any of the local Swedes have an idea what's going on?
-
@cartman82 it took Swedes rather long to grasp the obvious fact about Serbia.

So if a Swedish website serves up a page to someone not in Sweden without first getting written approval, that's illegal?

On the other hand, having at least 100/Half operational can usually keep your users online until you find and fix the issue...We work with some very well written applications that don't deal well with network degradation and corrupt their databases. So, I prefer things to fail hard and then our network monitor emails me to let me know there is a problem.
Of course the last time that happened it was a switch trunk and RSTP did not. Hard for the monitoring box to get in touch when it's been chopped off...

Luckily, we don't deal with confidential data, so the bureaucrats will just relax and leave us alone..... Right?

Don't bet on that. When gov make such clownesque screwups they tend to overreact.
Someone, be it your clients or your company should contact a lawyer to look at the new law to tell for sure.

STATUS: Came home from work. Apparently power outage during day as router was powered down. Turned it on and still no internet or working network. After some grumbling moved screen to it to see what was going on and found out the CMOS battery had died so it got stuck in POST. So... despite having the newest MB in the house (~3 years old) it still got a dead battery before my 7+ year old main computer. Amazing.
Also, got the branded clothing for my work trip today. The clothing is nice, but the worktrip is a bit of do not want, due to having a lot of work atm and could spend my time better at the office. But they kinda need me going too because I'm now apparently on the team dealing with the stuff we're promoting.

Status: was tired of typing numbers into my spreadsheet by hand, so I wrote a query in Access to:
- select the average of each column, rounded to the nearest integer
- from a table of hourly records
- where the date/time was greater than or equal to a specified date
- grouped by the date
- ordered by the date
The query was further complicated by the fact that it has to use 24-hour days which do not start and end at midnight, so I couldn't just use the date column for the
WHERE
andGROUP BY
.Now all I have to do is type in a start date, then highlight and copy and paste it into my spreadsheet... of course, that also copies and pastes column headers... :/

Status: Main computer at home is dying, it was built in 2012 so fair enough. For about a month the Motherboard status LEDs have been lighting dimly when in S5.
Now I get
Reboot and select proper boot device
every time I try to start the thing. Takes a good few goes to get her to boot. Nothing actually wrong with the drives as far as I can tell.I think I'll replace it with a Ryzen 5 1600. Bit of a step up from the i5-2500k it's rocking now. RAM and decent graphics card prices seem to be insane at the moment though.
-
@cursorkeys Blame cryptocurrency for insane GPU prices atm. The virtual gold diggers are purchasing all the mid-tier gaming GPUs for mining, so the shortages are driving prices up.
Weirdly enough, my main computer at home is showing no signs of dying despite the original configuration being purchased in 2010. I thought it was dying due to random USB port errors in both Windows and Linux, but a full reinstall of both solved that problem apparently.

Status: Already dragging and it's only the start of my longest day of the week. I teach all five classes (including two lab sessions) and have lunch duty so I have minimal breaks.

Status: Damn, I probably could have gone to work today. I only feel lightheaded and nauseated a little from time to time, and the pain's back down to a usual level of constant aching that I can put up with. :/
