It's really pissing me off. I managed to repro it like 4 times in a row while tracing through the code, now I can't do it on purpose, So this entire day, I've accomplished nothing.

Narrow down the variables/changes.

Thanks, Patton.

Ah, the "show another developer" effect...
If it's coming & going seemingly randomly, is it a race condition? Uninitialized memory?

Current status: now officially a lame duck at my current company.

No, I think I finally narrowed it down, and it has to do with date ranges. The bug occurs if date X is in the past and also before date Y.
The bug is arguably both in the front-end and the back-end. The back-end is, I believe, more technically correct (the best kind of correct), but we could fix it in either place. The back-end is basically saying "that information is irrelevant, take some nulls." The front-end is saying, "nulls!? I guess the user hasn't filled in this CRITICAL INFORMATION YET!"
The front-end shouldn't have asked for it in the first place, since it is irrelevant. But it's also harmless for the back-end to return it if asked.

But they can still 504 the server, right?
-
I have 29th and 30th too.
Ran out of days.I start the new job on the 5th, not sure whether I'm going to take vacation days before then or what.
-
No need to. Discourse does that for us.

doubt it. I mean in theory, yes but in practice probably not.
I run 5 of them, and they're restricted to a maximum request rate of 4 requests/second each.
browsing the site generates about 10 request/second on average from a desktop browser.

Well, hopefully you're using tax software which makes it fairly simple.
I started my job on January 2, but they count seniority at the end of the year, so I'm always a year behind. Every year at the Christmas party they give out this kinda silly crystal gifts, so last year, two weeks before I'd been there for a full six years, I got my 5th anniversary item.
It's a small WTF but it affects someone every year.

Status: Agitated and wondering what the thought process is where:
Near the end of the workday, I get an email from my boss (the president) saying we'll work all day Christmas eve, but we take Friday off.
An hour and a half after we get off work, I get an email from the Project Manager (the boss's brother, and with the boss CC'ed) saying we can get either Christmas Eve or Friday off, but we (being me and the junior dev only) have to agree on the day.
In true asshole fashion, plus senority rule, I told the junior dev we're taking Friday off, then replied to the email in kind.
I wish I got more than only the day of holidays off.

Same here, my current company gives 6 paid holidays. We get a ton of vacation time, but the idea of having 2-3 weeks off at the end of the year like some people do is nice.

4 hours turned in to 6 hours. In related news, I am on my third gin and tonic. Also, I am done until the 4th unless something starts smoking.

We get a ton of vacation time
I'm supposed to have "2 weeks" of vacation time (which I've never been officially told of), but we always seem to have pressing projects to work on so I don't take any time off.
Hell, I'd like to have some bank holidays off too.

I work at a company that receives specimens, so we have to be open every day that we could receive one. Only 6 paid holiday, but we get 3 weeks/15 days of vacation time. Not a ton, but it helps make up for the lack of holidays.
-
My last job was with a "litigation support" company so we only got some federal holidays off.
My current job is with a general IT company with clients in many industries, so the same federal holidays are the only ones they would "all" also be off (except we're on call in general, including on holidays, but that happens more for the network support guys, not me).
In both cases, it's probably the same 6 days you have off.

I've noticed similar behavior on other sites. Are you sure it's not the browser?
-
Maybe it is Chrome. All I usually type in is reddit sync and hangouts and what reddit sync does when you long press an empty like is pop up a paste toast.
