Yeah, I'm stuck renting, given the lack of a place to store one or the means to transport it. Would be nice if I had one, but at the same time, it's nice not having to worry about the logistics.

Status: Running a Windows VM, that connects to Cisco VPN using their client, so I could run VmWare remote console to connect to a virtual machine on client's premises.
I probably already mentioned this, but the amount of hoops I have to jump through to get to that damned machine still astounds me.
NOTE: Windows VM is due to VmWare's remote console thing, not Cisco VPN.

Status: The $30 Android tablet really isn't bad at all, even better than the $400 ASUS something-or-other I tried about 4 years ago. Have things really come along that far?

@Onyx said in The Official Status Thread:
@ben_lubar Desktop version has [a keyboard that emulates typing the password and then switches back to the default keyboard]. The Android one doesn't, at least the one I'm using. Regardless, why the hell does Slack app mess with this shit? Previous versions had normal inputs. It worked fine.
Use Keepass2Android and be happy.
It can even load .kbdx files straight through WebDAV, which I use because my key database is hosted on my box.com account.

Got to my desk nice and early anticipating being highly productive today. Total datacenter outage. 12 hours and counting.
WELP.
-
@Weng Does that mean some of my junk mail will be delayed? If so, awesome.
-
@FrostCat Someone's leaping over a wall they should not be.
-
@FrostCat Some of it was already delayed 3 days because our primary order management mainframe was down for splitting all weekend. All your non junk was also delayed.
Unfortunately, the biggest junkmail division doesn't use that system.
-
@blakeyrat Eh, WtfCorp being in junkmail production is basically public at this point.

@Weng Oh good. Now I'm retroactively wrong and stupid, even when I wasn't wrong and stupid at the time I posted. Love it.
-
@blakeyrat Not wrong, you just give more shits about my privacy than I do. Which is commendable.

Yes, I switched to that now, installed the wrong one initially.
It's still shit because I can't paste links or anything else. It's not just the login form, it's every input in the damned application.
-
@Groaner
transporting a kayak it's the only thin i don't miss about it. but the places that rent in my city they all rent shitty kayaks or you have to be a member of a club.
-
@Weng said in The Official Status Thread:

I get next to no mail that isn't junk, although that depends somewhat on whether things like health insurance EoBs are junk.

@dse Our project has a main repo, and each dev has a fork they work on. When done with a feature, we merge from the feature branch on our fork to master on the main repo (or a release branch, if applicable)
Stash's Fork syncing feature makes this simple, and I was surprised that GitHub didn't have a similar feature of its own, if you want to keep your fork up to date, you have to do it manually.

I've fucking had it with this process that fills my temp folder with copies of DISMHost.exe.
I know what's doing it, but because it's a work PC i'm not allowed to disable it. It just has this failure mode where it will get wedged occasionally on Wondows 10 (i'm a beta tester for the company..... not by choice, all of IT is) and start spewing out copies of the helper process DISMHose.exe and associated DLLs to the users temp folder.... which if left unchecked eventually adds up to 10o wedged DISMHost.exe processes leaking over 10GB of disk space per minute.
fuck that shit.
notepad "C:\FickDISMHost.ps1"
taskkill -f -im dismhost.exe rmdir -r C:\Users\accalia\appdata\Local\temp\????????-????-????-????-????????????
okay.... task scheduler..... new task. call it FickDISMHost
schedule..... trigger daily at 0600, and hourly after that for one day.
task......
powershell -file "C:\FickDISMHost.ps1"
save, edit properties
... permissions, run with highest permissions, run even if user is not logged in, do not save password (don't need access to network shit)
.... save.
trigger manually.
there we go. that should keep the symptom of this problem from eating up all my disk space and crashing my work laptop, forcing me to boot with a bootdisc because the full hdd prevents windows from successfully booting up.... even into safe mode for some rasin.
now if only the s that wrote that computer management software could fix their shit so it doesn't lose it's shit on wondows 10.... but i won't hold my breath, their reality distortion field is almost as powerful as .

Why?
So I can store MOAR COPEEZ of DISMHost.exe!

maybe he has a bit of a dick obsession?
Not that there's anything wrong with that...
-
@accalia I built one last year from 12×6TB disks. Price was reasonable. (Didn't really trust the 8TB disks at that point.) Got it configured as 11 disks for RAID5 and 1 for hot swap. It's rather nice.
I ought to find a spare network socket so I can boot up its twin sister.

@accalia said in The Official Status Thread:

Maybe you should be using windows 10 instead of that cheap Chinese knock-off.
Also, I'm a little surprised you didn't just create an empty file named dismhost.exe in your temp folder and mark it as read-only: that'll frequently stop the kind of shenanigans you're seeing.
-
@accalia said in The Official Status Thread:

Maybe he just sees dicks everywhere, like some perverted variant of that Google Deep Dream thing.

Better yet, create an empty directory called that. Good luck force-overwriting that!
