Status: installed SuperTux for the lulz. The jump physics are atrocious. Seriously game, you had one job.
Then it somehow managed to "core dump" on me when I tried to quit.
(Pingus and Extreme Tux Racer on the other hand, are quite good)
-
@anonymous234 core dumps are disabled by default, but for some reason the "core dump was not produced" message is identical to the "core dump was produced" message.
If you actually do want a core dump, run
ulimit -c unlimited
before you run your terrible crashing bug machine. But I'm guessing you don't want to debug SuperTux.

status Removing a driver from Windows 10 that is not compatible is fucking insane.
MagicIso was auto-removed on Win7-Win10 upgrade - meaning their uninstall was not run - leaving mcdbus.sys. So Windows moves it to windows.old each time. Had to perform delicate surgery in \windows\system32\drivers and \windows\system32\DriverStore\FileRepository. windows.old is finally gone.
Not entirely sure why windows.old is such a problem. The folder doesn't do anything other than serving as a backup for rollback purposes.

That might not help. OSX uses a weird customisation of clang as their gcc AIUI.

Status: accepted the offer from my former company. Having my own team among smart software engineers who know git is not GitHub (and of course 30% raise) is too tempting to ignore. Still will do the onsite interviews to have a backup plan for the first month. I suck at interviews because I do not study for them like 95% of other candidates.

You actually know your stuff and the company you'll be working for? Then you don't really need to study much at all.

You are not competing against those who cannot answer their stuff, but rather the speed of giving those answers looking them in the eye, and how much the interviewer likes it. Even then, if it is a written test (that does not get wiped out) or an onsite assignment (that they leave the candidate alone in the room to do something) it would be fine.

It usually only appears after a major upgrade, meaning there's now an entire OS in there - so I run Disk Cleaner to remove it. I was just annoyed that I couldn't tell if I needed to run cleanup or not...

I seem to do pretty well in them - but I'm like you - I don't study. Of course, I didn't really do that in school either... Still did pretty well there too.

I have the 1450, never looked at the xfer rate, but it's not exactly quick. (I had to stick a card in it - not enough space to do updates)

Yeah, the default map install program basically said, "um you fool, I can't fit all of North America on this thing! I'll let you install Canada though!" to which my response was, "the heck with that!" and found out the "advanced" method and just installed my State instead.

Yes, but if you already know the company, it gives you a big advantage over the other schmucks. Not that it's a guarantee, but going in knowing your stuff (because you actually know it), knowing them (because you used to work for them), and also being well-rested (because you're not cramming the night before)… well, it's maximising your chances.
If you really want to do well, think about interesting things to ask in the “is there anything else you want to know” slot. Asking something in there that they ought to know the answer to but don't (or do, but only just) is a great way to look like a good candidate.

I originally did that too. But finally got an update that required way more trimming than I wanted. So just bought a card. Updates are stoopid-simple now.

Yeah, I read up the help sections and found out that (so long as the card is only attempted to use on the same device) you can smash the full version of the maps on an SD card and it (mostly) Just Works. But I like to have the base maps for my area internal so in case I somehow need the SD card (or some joker decides they need it more than I do) my GPS isn't totally crippled. ;)

Why? Do you really need a map for The One Road? It's one road. It goes East and West. It runs through Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, St. John, then loops around Cape Brenton. At any town you can take an husky-drawn sled to any of the minor villages like Victoria or Calgary. There is a caravan that runs twice fortnightly to Ottawa. There's a canoe to PEI and Newfoundland, but those are too new to show up on your GPS.
