Doesn't look like it will go well when you hit MSSQL servers.

Then praise the FSM that I do not hit MSSQL servers. Not even with cluebats.

you asked for it.
Actually knowledge is entropy!
we can see this in compression of video and text. as we compress something we are distilling it, removing repetitive sections with less repetitive sections in a way that can be reversed to give us what we sent in. But at some point you can't compress something any more without losing information. at that point it is pure knowledge. we can even use this model to theorize storage capacities of structures as the amount of storable information is directly related to the entropy of a system.
in this way we can calculate that, for example that if we did actually calculate Grahams Number and attempt to store it in a space the size of the average human's head that head would collapse into a black hole before we finished loading in half the number! in fact even id we picked a neutron star and used a sphere of denatured neutron matter for our storage media we would need a piece with a radius of at least 50 meters to avoid collapsing into a black hole just from remembering the exact value of grahams number. and even then we still need to store the structure of the neutron star material... so better make that a 70 meter sphere just to be sure.
which would weigh more than the ENTIRE planet Earth (and quite a few other planets too)
knowledge may be power, but it's also entropy!

and may the great Goddess from which all things have come and to which all things shall in their due time return also protect you from the WTF that is MSSQL.
-
The really fun part is that Pi contains Graham's number.
-

To which all thongs, yes, that's about right for goddesses.
I have avoided MSSQL for a while with good reason. You know it's bad when MySQL seems less full of WTF.
-
name me a number. go on name me a number of finite length.
i can prove that it's in the digits of PI eventually.
I might not be able to show you where, but it is in there!
-
Is pi-1 inside of pi?
-
To which all thongs, yes, that's about right for goddesses
or it just means that her prophet is a terrible typist.
-
Pi-1 is not a finite length number, so no.

Sorry, @accalia, for taking a Like back from you. But I meant to Like someone else's post, and Discourse decided that it would move everything around.

Not necessarily...

I just had to copy a 512GB hard disk and used "bs=1M". I wonder which one is faster (but I'm not going to copy the disk again to find out).
I've used
gparted
a few times recently to resize partitions. For the copy data step, it tries with a few blocksizes and selects the fastest one.
On the 3 different machines I've done this, it always went for 16MB blocksize. All the drives are of the spinning rust variety, YMMV if you use solid state storage.

Next two podcasts in my queue:
One about people "visited" by dead relatives.
The other is about skepticism.

Status: Tried and failed to post a picture of Civilization: Beyond Earth as my status, but this game messes up mutli-screen windowing worse than anything I've ever encountered in my life, and even breaks PrintScreen!
-
Did they even test multi-monitor systems? I cannot scroll right in the game because my mouse falls off the window onto my other monitor. But the game is fullscreen-ish and freaks out if I click anything over there.
If you're going to do fullscreen, capture the freaking mouse! Otherwise give me a resizable window!

Current status:
Thinking about how the title bar in Discourse is updated with the number of unread topics, not the number of notifications.
This encourages (not really) people besides you to post, it doesn't encourage you to post good material, like the way that a counter/update for like notifications would.

Yeah it's completely useless. What were they thinking?

Had a 169MB file open in Visual Studio.
Took up less memory than having Discourse open.

Hehe:

WoW calls the foreground weapon 'Medicine Stick'. I'd call it Hot Needle of Inquiry.

Just watched Beauty and the Beast. Still a lovely film.

I saw the play last year, it took me back.
-
What? Doesn't that look like a hot needle?
I'm not disagreeing with you, I just had an ugly mental image of how the Hot Needle of Inquiry could be used.

Ah. Then you grasp the essence of the name. (I stole it from a Niven book.)

I totally need to find RingWorld for my Kindle. Last time I read it I was like 9 years old or something, I'd probably appreciate it more now.

I wish they sold the books as a series. I've only read the first one.

The Hot Needle was in the sequel, IIRC.

If only there were a way to buy them individually. :)

Yeah, but I'm lazy.
