been there, done that. now i call helpdesk and make them do it if i need it done (or the Data team if it's for PROD)

Is that a recent thing? I've noticed that the L1 techs here no longer type prod, they all type PROD.

It's a 6 person company, and the IT guy that set it up only did minimal for the OS and software (got Windows and SQL Server installed, apparently the wrong one but I don't blame him) and the rest was hoisted onto me.
At the very least, at least I can't say I'm sitting here with nothing to do. It's just agitating and very, very boring.

FrostCat:
You know you could do that with an ActiveX control, right?Sure I could, but that wouldn't get me very far. ActiveX support was discontinued as of IE 10, IIRC.
This page disagrees. If you sniff for IE before using an AX control, you'll have a problem, since IE 11 doesn't have MSIE in the user agent string any more, to combat sites that serve content for only ancient IE versions.
However, your post was probably whoooosh-worthy if you thought I was being serious.
-
not sure where i picked it up. or when. i blame windows network explorer being case insensitive and choosing to smash case to positive.
I'd blame mile the L-1 tech but we don't have those here.

Apparently, if EPM is enabled, controls are disabled by default, or something, according to that page, but then an update was pushed that disabled EPM by default.

Guess I recalled incorrectly.

It's lunchtime. It's raining. I've had zero luck on my job search. Intercourse is harassing me again (thanks for not having an ignore feature Discourse!)
I feel like shit in like 47 different ways.
I'm going to just give up on life I think, lie on my floor and drink beer until I vomit.

Meh. I hadn't even heard rumors about it, but I figured MS completely removing ActiveX would be wildly unlikely.

I do that daily.

Last time I did it blakeycat jumped on my stomach and kind of cheered me up, so I need to make sure she's restrained first.

There's your problem. Get dogs. They're much better.

So is wasting posting time by replying here.

I don't know, they've pretty much given up on SilverLight. ActiveX has never been adopted by any other browser. I figure they'll remove it within a few versions.

And then the ROKs will declare war on Redmond.

Silverlight != ActiveX. If they were going to kill the entire idea of putting ActiveX controls in a webpage (obviously they're not going to deprecate the entire concept of controls themselves) they would've probably already done it.
Actually I wonder what the alternative would be. Chrome's dropping NPAPI but IIRC they're going to come up with a new interface. I dunno about FF-derived browsers and NPAPI.
-
Silverlight != ActiveX
I know that. I was giving an example that if they are willing to let one idea die, then they would be willing to let another go as well.

Sure. I just think that of those two specific things, one, they're not actually going to be willing to let go. :)

You're probably right. It's just to bad that the one they are holding onto tightest is the one that they probably need to let go of most.
Bonus WTF: Your emoticon became an emoji in my quote. @discoursebot!

If you mean AX-in-browser, maybe. If you mean AX in general, perish the thought.
Bonus WTF
That's impressive, especially considering I used a \ to keep it from being an emoticon. I guess now I'll have to double-escape.

Status: Looking at a huge backlog of work to do this iteration, and feeling absolutely no motivation to do any of it. Currently wondering where everything went so wrong in my life.
Also, seriously, is there a way to change user names? Picked this one sarcastically, then realized it makes me look douchier than I actually am when people don't realize that.

There is a setting for how long after account creation you are allowed to do so (IIRC it is defaulted to a few days).
-
Not having pets is a good way to maximize your ability to do absolutely nothing while wasting your free time.
I think. I never had a pet myself.
-
The one in bold? Nope. The one in normal font style? Yes.
Unless @PJH can magic it. Never witnessed him doing it, though.
EDIT: Ninja'd by a lunatic. Limited time change also works. But I assume that's over for you.
-
Unless @PJH can magic it.
I buttume he can as there is an automated update name right after you sign up, but not sure what all is involved in doing so (may muck with old mentions and things).
EDIT: and I don't think I've ever had this name referred to as 'lunatic', most people shorten it to 'local' if they do so.

I can confirm that. Pets expect you to waste your free time on them.

Instead of NearbyNutjob? Weird.

Today was a good day. I got 300 upvotes on reddit and quads on 4chan.

Sexy single lunatics in your area now!

I'm fairly certain I can do it for you (the interface suggests I can). It'll break any @mentions however.

Never been the need to. There was one user I offered to change in the early days when the maximum name length was shorter than it was over on CS, but they were able to change it themselves.
-

OK, so the time limit doesn't apply to you because you're an admin. Wasn't sure how they set that up.
EDIT: when name changing happens, could someone let the community know so the newly named @CodeNinja isn't treated as someone new?

Current status: in a severe state of depression after seeing the code in our latest application some more. I didn't contribute to that project, but heads would have rolled if I did. A lot of super-complex and overly-verbose AngularJS implementation, but the .NET backend is code that I would expect from someone fresh from college.
I generally push anything having to do with this app onto other people.

Status: a whole day spent refurbishing the project to use a dependency injection container, because apparently that's what cool kids do nowadays. Complexity increased twice, some shit just simply doesn't work (for example, AFAIK there's no way to get a logger named after the calling type, at least not using our bastardized version of log4net; also, there's no way to inject into validation attributes).
Benefit: absolutely fucking zero. Fuck code reviews.
-
at least not using our bastardized version of log4net;
You should wrap that in standard log4net.

Maybe they hope spammers will be kind enough to report their own spam?
I would like this, but I'm out, so have a +ണ instead.

After triggering the same error three times, a user would be told "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result."
I would give you a like, but I'm out. Have a +ര instead.

Rational behavior is probably a barrier to getting into the 5% club.

FTFY
Oh, there's plenty of rational here on TDWTF. It's all the irrationality of everyone else that means we need this little haven.
-
There is rational here, but there's lots of irrational, too. (Cf., first and foremost, of course, Discourse; also, @blakeyrat, @ben_lubar, the likes topic, discobutt, assorted flame wars, etc.) However, what I meant was more along the lines of "rational behavior is probably a barrier to spending enough time on TDWTF to be ranked higher than the top 95%, much less the top 5%."

One of these is not like the others.

Yup. Rayman Legends is the only 2D platforming game.
-
The only time users don't tend to do that is when it is a connection error. Yes, the one error where it would make sense to just try again to resolve the fact that the netwerk, server or database missed a beat.

because PROD sounds sooo much more important then prod!
