I was being non-discriminatory, providing examples of things that you might really be instead of the persona you exhibit. For example, you might be a furry alien creature from Alpha Centauri that's blended in really well.

Must have been ESL induced pareidolia then. Anyway, thanks for the language lesson!
It takes an ESL person to realize it. I actually find such conversations interesting.
I resemble that remark. Having been an active member of various hospex communities (BeWelcome, Hospitality Club and Couchsurfing), I've encountered quite some language discoveries like that.
i also found those interesting. We grew up speaking it and stopped thinking about the words before age 10. Now we are like automatons, just conveying meaning without thought of the words we use to do so.
Natural language processing in AI has been achieved!

As opposed to a certain Denebian slime devil pretending to be a furry?
-
Well, I was giving examples of inclusivity, rather than an exhaustive list of accepted types, the difference between e.g. and i.e. This was an 'e.g.' time.
If @rc4 was a certain Denebian slime devil pretending to be a furry, that would be perfectly cromulent around here.

Only fifteen minutes until I get to start doing the thing I had to stay up for!
Just this once it'd be OK for you to post to the cupcake thread.

Maybe Discourse censored it when you looked?

Apparently it's not in the user cards, just the actual profile page. TIL.
Or so I assume. your profile page is taking forever to load.

TIL2.
I usually middle-click someone's avatar to go to their profile page so it opens in a new tab, so I don't risk getting 'd all over the place.
Or so I assume. your profile page is taking forever to load.
Maybe you can troll Jeff to reveal what I'm Doing Wrong? Might get you another badge

what I'm Doing Wrong?
E_BAD_ASSUMPTION. It's not you, it's that's the problem. Or us, for using Jeff's Precious in a way he didn't approve of.
-
Yeah, everyone's profile is slow to load, especially if you've ever been in the 5% club or had 100k likes from the Likes Thread or similar. Because real users don't use a forum that heavily, obviously.

I guess not, considering this entry got removed from the Discourse 1.5 new feature list:
They're "fixing" user profiles though. Mostly just by removing the numbers.
Although I don't want to know what sort of Hell is unleashed with Discourse "custom virtual DOM code to bypass Ember".
-
If you're bypassing Ember, then maybe you should have chosen something other than Ember.
General non-directional statement.
-
Imagine if people on some website populated mostly by grumpy developers had told them to use something other than Ember a while back.
-
Actually, on that note, what would be a better alternative? I know that Angular and React are things that people use, but I've never had a need for a client-side MVC framework.
-
Why not just implement the UI in HTML and use JavaScript to add functionality instead of implementing the UI in JavaScript and using HTML to <erase content>?

Why not just implement the UI in HTML and use JavaScript to add functionality
Funnily enough, that's exactly what I'm doing on this project I'm working on at work; I'm just asking in the more general 'if I needed one, what would be better?' sense.
-
I think after 11pm, every minute feels like at least 30 while in the office
FNAF might just have something there then. Each round is about 7.5 minutes real time, but the clock makes it a whole six hours....

Bypass Ember?
But when Ember upgrades ALL THEIR ISSUES WILL MAGICALLY DISAPPEAR! They told us that for months. Why would they bypass this magical miracle library from heaven???
-
Actually, on that note, what would be a better alternative?
Write the 60 lines of code you actually need your fucking self, and don't bother downloading any huge bloated moronic open source libraries?
Just a thought.

Yeah, that.

YAGNI. Next question?
I don't think I qualify as a real web-developer any more because I don't do Ember, I don't do React, I don't do Angular, I don't do any of this bullshit. I just write stuff that fucking works without any of it.
-
Oh silly me, for some reason I thought you were coming to DailyWTF and shitting all over my threads because you were "bored".

Fuck knows, but it's not the Discodevs writing their own.

Not unless they had a huge turnover.
They don't have a single employee right now who's capable of writing simple code.

Status: Well that was an unexpectedly good end to the week. Suddenly, part way through the third meeting of the day, the wifi started working correctly and I was able to actually keep a connection up (instead of being booted out every 50 seconds). That let me sort out my users' problems with connecting to the NAS and get everyone happy by 3pm when the meeting ended.
Which was nice because it meant I could finish early and beat the worst of the rush hour train crush.

Yeah, that may be the thing to do. How hard is that to configure on a home network though?

Depends. What type of router do you have, or can you run your own DHCPD?
-
-
What type of router do you have
Asus RT-N66R. Running stock (a Tomato fork).
can you run your own DHCPD
I could move the DHCPD over to another server on the network if I really had to...
You don't have a or near?
Yes, but that would not be "easy", since that means I have to leave the house
-
-
Hmm, looks like this may be my best bet......
That means I'll have to flash the router though, and hope it doesn't break
