Windows doesn't override the bootloader anymore?
I think it probably updated its UEFI stuff, but grub seems to hook in before that. Which is really nice. I remember having to fiddle around to get grub working again after upgrading from 8 to 8.1.

None, but we did eat them with eggs and pickled herring. :-)

That's ok. We can ask one of the mods to delete your posts for you.

@Maciejasjmj, wanna join @FrostCat as a dwarven child?
Sure, just try not to have me killed off before I make my first steps.
-
it just invites the question of why exactly the keyboard is sticky.
Better stop watching porn on someone else's computer then

I think if I had to pick a zone to live in I would rather like bloodtide coast. it has nice beaches. Once you kill everything there.

I'd live in Rata Sum personally. I love the aesthetic there.

of course you would.

That's Unreal Editor compiling. Fuck knows when I'll have the time to play with it, but I want to see if it even works properly...
UPDATE!
Wooo!
-
So it's not keeled over at the first step of running. Which is definitely hopeful. Does it have a proper test suite so you can put it through its paces without needing to spend a week clicking like a mad thing?

Honestly, I just followed the instructions, fixing some stiff to target Mono 4.5 instead of 4.0 along the way. Epic currently regards it as "good enough for government work", apparently.
I'll look into the test suite alter, gonna try making and compiling a basic project now. If it doesn't blow up it will convince me it's worth the effort of looking for it.

No it doesn't. If your windows is installed as UEFI, then so is your linux, and you're picking between those in your UEFI startup menu. If you can pick windows from grub and it works then you're in legacy bios mode.
That said, windows didn't even clobber my bootloader during the 7->10 update.

That's... ugly. Here's ours.

But... that's plastic, is it not? Looks plastic.
Also, WTF people, it's the 13th, is it normal to decorate trees this early in your neck of the woods?
-
That's… bare. And twee. (My picture is very crappy.)
is it normal to decorate trees this early in your neck of the woods?
No, but we've got visitors next weekend (which would be a more normal time) and are too busy to do it during the week.
-

You can even say we're a little late since the cities I live and work were already decorated by the 1st.
And yes, it's a plastic tree, haven't used a real one since the 80s but I have a real one on the garden outside that we also decorate so, best of both worlds!

Status: playing Fallout 3 (new game) and still find new things after like 300 hours of gameplay.
I don't have a PC or a new console to play Fallout 4 :crying:

decorate trees this early
Ours was up practically before black Friday. Not by MMU choice, mind you....
-
You could at least be playing New Vegas, it's better.
-
in my neck of the woods the tradition dictates that the christmas trees get decorated on december 8
-
is it normal to decorate trees this early in your neck of the woods?
Saint-Nicolas is gone so yes, time to get the decorations out. I think Santa is supposed to wait 1 or maybe 2 weeks before coming out of hiding.
-
There are people who would disagree with you. Personally, I haven't played enough of New Vegas to form my own opinion.
-
The story of Fallout 3 is absolute gibberish. Detracts from an otherwise ok game.
-
From what I remember, it's something about getting clean water and finding your dad. Which you do both of.
-
It also involves people who are inexplicably over 200 years old. Also at one point you disassemble a GECK to repair a small water purification plant. A GECK! IF YOU HAD A GECK WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU NEED A WATER PURIFICATION PLANT!
That would be like someone in Star Trek universe trying to colonize a airless moon disassembling a Genesis torpedo and using its casing to plant roses in. IT MAKES NO SENSE.
Plus the plot doesn't really make sense. There are a million things wrong with the Capital Wasteland, and fresh water fixes maybe 0.001% of them. Also the Brotherhood of Steel's plan would kill them along with everybody else, so that makes no sense. Also if the Brotherhood wanted the plant, why wouldn't they wait until AFTER it's repaired? Since they also know people are actively working to repair it?
Still not as bad as the Thieve's Guild quest in Skyrim, which:
- makes somehow less sense
- continually tells itself (and forces the player to comment on) how clever it is
(Come to think of it, the Thieve's Guild quest had problems with people being inexplicably immortal too. Huh. Same writer?)
-
I usually catch things like that... Maybe I need to replay so I too can be annoyed.
-

Honestly, I'm not sure how it is all set up. I remember having to mess around with it a bunch when I first got it and made it dual boot.
It seemed like Windows would only work on UEFI. Now the Windows entry in grub is called the Windows UEFI loader. But they both still work, so kudos to MS for fixing that.

The grocery store closest to me started selling them more than a week ago.

Someone sounds like Shamus Young again, only a 1/1000th as wordy Shamus Young.

He did a pretty long essay about Fallout 3.
The difference between him and me is I like the game for reasons other than the story. He apparently doesn't do ANY side-stuff and ONLY does the main story, then considers himself "done" with the game. Which kind of pisses me off when it comes to Gamebryo games, because that's not the fucking point.
As evidenced by his ludicrously fast "completion" of Fallout 4.
... in any case, I'd still recommend New Vegas over Fallout 3. Even if you ignore the main story, New Vegas just has so much more and more varied content. Excellent DLCs also.

Status: So, I got a coupon for a supposedly "premium" streaming service (no, not HBO, this is Germany...).
This coupon gives me 2 months access to all kinds of TV series. So, I browsed through the data base and am now wondering:
Why on earth should I pay for this?
Take a current series like "The Strain" as an example - when I clicked on the header, I immediately was greeted with a "Season 2" title. Which then turned out to be: "Season 2, Episodes 12 onward".
And pretty much anything recent or semi-recent is like this. Yes, I get it, there are probably contracts in place and stuff so you can't dodge out of buying boxes and stuff.
Only: It doesn't even offer me the chance to purchase anything. The missing episodes are just that: Missing. There's not even a hint that a Season 1 of The Strain exists.
-
Is it just me, or is this data type weird?
std::vector<std::string *> foo;
That's what Dwarf Fortress stores its command line arguments in. To iterate over it, you have to do this:
for (auto it = foo.begin(); it != foo.end(); it++) { const std::string & arg = **it; // ... }
-
exists
Well at least they're forthcoming with it. Most won't tell you even after you've subscribed.

You should see some of the stuff Valve did in their Source 1 games. Alien Swarm has a few classes that use the STL and Valve's custom stuff interchangeably and have to convert back and forth repeatedly.
-
I use something similar at times. Also, with C++11 you can do this:
for(auto bar : foo) { // do stuff with bar }
-
I couldn't do that in my code because I was parsing
foo +bar baz +47
the same way vim would.

Status: Was wondering why the server was almost completely unresponsive, there was very little CPU usage, I'm doing a pool scrub, but it shouldn't be bringing the system down like this.
Then I stop the torrent service and everything zips back to normal!Somehow my "Use a maximum of 8k connections total" setting must have gotten ignored. I'm not actively downloading anything, but apparently the half-open connections never timed out and died....
-
Somehow my "Use a maximum of 8k connections total" setting must have gotten ignored.
That or it doesn't apply to the connections used to identify and determine the metric distance to other nodes. Which was definitely the problematic part back when I briefly ran torrent systems, and why I decided that they were not part of any solution I wanted to touch with a barge pole. Normal download from an authoritative source is typically much faster for virtually anything…

Source code of Dwarf Fortress - the ben_lubar final frontier.

I don't have that. I just have the source code of an open source memory hacking tool for Dwarf Fortress.
It supports ruby scripting!

well when the technology's only 3 days old when the start pumping out the book it's kind of hard to get a cumulative experience total much higher than a year
