That is the first time that has ever happened to me.
Or maybe we can blame it on 3rd party extensions?

As long as you're not blaming @Discourse, @codlnghorror is happy.

I wonder if anyone's done a code golf on "1000 or more compiler warnings".

I wonder if anyone's done a code golf on "1000 or more compiler warnings".
But you can't use C++. Too easy to get compiler warnings. I could get 1000 in 5 lines.

Shower-thought:
If I was rich and ended up in a modern American prison, I'd definitely buy a bunch of shares of the prison owning company and make the CEO set me up with some nice crib and perks.
And now I wonder if this isn't already happening.

If I was rich and ended up in a modern American prison
Uh, the second part only very very rarely happens if you have the first and even then it tends to be minimum security (plus a shorter stay).

Ben, why don't you work with a good programming language.
Remind me again, Blakey. Are there any programming languages other than Dβ that you actually like? Assuming you somehow have managed to like that piece of junk, that is (how anyone can hate Java and like C#, or vice versa, when you practically need a fucking electron microscope to determine the difference between them, is beyond me). Or do you not like anything about programming at all?
Filed under: Mr. Pot, meet Mr. Kettle, be prepared to trade notes on coloration.

The 15th consecutive holiday weekend where I have worked uncompensated.
My suggestion...don't let it happen a 16th time.
-
Java and C# used to be very similar, but have diverged.
The most pronounced difference, though, is the standard library.
C# is quite well done.
Java is a basketcase. The canonical toolchains are also very different in quality.
-
Great idea
Congratulations, that is the first time anyone ever said that to @ben_lubar.
-

I quite liked Ruby, but the tooling is shit. I also like JavaScript, just not for application development.

... how long has it been since you touched C#? Your complaint is true about C# 1.1 perhaps. But even starting in 2.0, it was diverging quite a bit from Java, and in 4.5 it's worlds apart.
That said, you can still write Java-like C#, ignoring stuff like LINQ, etc. But only because the language is still (mostly) backwards compatible with 1.1. Not because you're supposed to.
Also the tooling for C# has always been miles ahead of Java. I care more about tooling than I do languages-- if Java had excellent IDEs, debuggers, and libraries, I'd probably prefer it over C# even if the language itself had fewer/worse features.
And THAT all said, you're defending something called "CoolC".

Status: I could do something productive on my 3-day weekend, or I could play Arkham Knight, which FINALLY got a patch...
EDIT: this is the SECOND RECENT GAME bitching about my GPU drivers being out of date when I'm using the newest drivers NVidia has available.
Am I supposed to be using beta drivers? Is that what they're bitching about? WTF.
EDIT EDIT: No wait, the version on NVidia's website is 355.82 and the version in the application I keep installed SPECIFICALLY TO LOOK FOR NVIDIA DRIVER UPDATES is only 355.60.
Ok fuck you "GeForce Experience", you're complete garbage.

The situation seems reversed in the third-party toolchain space. I've seen a lot of debate among pros about how to get complicated setups (with lots of dependencies) building with C#. You don't really see that with Java, as Maven is very good indeed (provided you drink the Kool Aid; Maven is very much that way, almost as much as Ruby-on-Rails).
-
The solution for C# developers is to have less complicated dependencies. Stop packing your program full of broken 3rd party bullshit and you might find it becomes easier to build.
-
Weird, my GeForce Exp. installation told me to update several days ago.
-
when you practically need a fucking electron microscope to determine the difference between them
C# has:
- A proper standard library
- Hell of a lot more functional-isms (YOU LOVE THOSE)
- Less unnecessary verbosity
- A different exception model
Just from 5 seconds of quick thinking.
-
To what version?
Without knowing what version it wanted you to upgrade to, that information is useless to me.
Status: Rocksteady really, really, really wanted me to love the Batmobile sections of this game and I really, really do not. Ugh. Arkham Knight might turn out to be a slog unless they ease-up with the fucking Batmobile bullshit.

To what version?
The one you were ranting about? What other version would I be talking about? 100.45 from 7 years ago?
-

Spoken like someone not used to a properly functioning 3rd party ecosystem.
-
The one you were ranting about?
WHICH ONE!? The old or the new? There were two versions mentioned in the rant.
What other version would I be talking about? 100.45 from 7 years ago?
Based on what you typed, I have no clue if you mean NVidia Experienced notified you about the old version, or the new version. Sorry. I am not telepathic. Do not read minds.

Translation: The solution to the problem is to build everything yourself, constantly reinvent the wheel, and spend a shitload of time on unnecessary development instead of using 3rd party libraries.

Translation: The solution to the problem is to build everything yourself, constantly reinvent the wheel,
The standard libraries do 95% of what you need. All you need to do is tie them together.
You don't need WebAPI third-party bullshit to make a REST API, the code's ALL THERE in System.Web. Just spend 120 lines to wire it together and you're done.
-
Just spend 120 lines to wire it together and you're don.
That would explain this quote:

you're a fucking amorale asshole who works for a shitstain scumbag industry

Fuck, third party dependencies are the EASY part of my dependency problems. Nuget, n00bs.

Ok fuck you "GeForce Experience", you're complete garbage.
The application name is "GeForce Experience", not "Good Experience".

So therefore my conclusion is sound and I am a super-genius, that is my cite.
Looks like a jefftation. I don't trust jefftations.

It's unpossible to make a packet of decent fudge last that long once it's been opened.
