Status: Today my wife went and visited her parents and I stayed home and started the remodel of our guest bedroom, because between visiting my in-laws and tearing out 20 year old carpet...I will take being covered with ancient dirt and ex-inhabitants pet pee 10/10 times.

Status: Home internet is borked. DHCP and DNS are working fine, contacting the default gateway fails.TWC seems to think it's my router, despite switching routers and plugging a laptop info the modem having no effect. Tech will be here TUESDAY
Solutionhacky workaround to the problem: (ab)use in-house Ethernet to plug the WAN port into a laptop on the upstairs story which is being USB-tethered cell service internet. Our bill is not going to be pretty this month...Considering billing them for the 6+ gig overage charges...

Fantastic font rendering, Firefox

Home internet is borked
I assume you don't have a neighbor's service that you can "borrow"?

Status:
I tried to make a Hangouts call from my new phone to the old phone an hour ago. I hanged up on the new one, nothing seemed to go wrong.
Now I grab the old phone and see "Hangouts call in progress - 55 minutes"
Good thing they don't charge for that.

Status: The fuck is this shit:
Warning: you have too many tracked new and unread topics, clear some using "Dismiss New" or "Dismiss Posts"
Since when does forum software complain that you are using it too much?
-
Err...
Actually I might, but given that I'm eating 2g a day of bandwidth..........
-
@kuro-bar, this is @JazzyJosh. @JazzyJosh, this is the @kuro-bar
-
wut
-
Actually, if you read the message, it is complaining that you are using it too little.
-
It's complaining that I go into a topic, read a few posts, reply, and then leave never to return right? Why would that be a problem?
I also like how it tells me to click "Dismiss new" or "Dismiss posts", but does not tell me where those buttons are, nor link to them.
EDIT: Hold up, it keeps track of EVERY SINGLE TOPIC I DON'T ENTER AS NEW UNTIL I ENTER THEM? If the thread is not new since the last time I visited, then it's not a new topic

That's a setting in your preferences, though.
None of this is really discoverable, and this shouldn't be surprising with Dischorse.
-
Why does it not default to how every other piece of forum software works oh right, it's Discourse.
-

According to @Sam We are the edge case. Less than 50 on 1000s of instances:

https://meta.discourse.org/t/new-indicator-is-showing-wrong-numbers-again/25860/18?u=kuroFiled Under: I kinda hope the @kuro-bar is a temporary solution... but this is Discourse! :D
Addendum: @PJH can you rummage through the Database, finding out how many people here have @kuro-bar? That'd be cool!

I refuse to please the @Kuro-bar :colbert:

In case that makes you feel better: So do I
Filed Under: dancing numbers are fun anyway!
-
The @Kuro-bar on meta.d makes the numbers vanish too
-
Ugh.
Steam even allows "games" with zero screenshots now. This is just embarrassing for Valve.
-
I find the news more interesting:
(note: this is filed as a released game!)
Version 0.2.9 Update
2. September - Captain_Marica
Added ability to go back to main menu from lobby menu so you can now exit the gameWelp, you can finally exit this game!
Filed Under: how can a "released" game get a version of 0.2.9? Isn't 1.0 usually the released version?
-
Err...
Actually I might, but given that I'm eating 2g a day of bandwidth..........
Does your ISP cap your transfers? It would probably be cheaper to tell the neighbor that you would pay for any overages for them, and offer to reciprocate if they ever have internet issues.

Have you heard of this new forum software called "Discourse"? Let me tell you a little story about their release schedules...
-
No, see, they at least called it a Beta when it was below v.1.0.
They then just called it 1.0 and "officially released" even though we all know it's still a beta.
But they aren't using Alpha/Beta-numbering on the "released" "product"Filed Under: Discourse is NOT a game, btw. It might look like it with the gamified stuff but don't trust discourse!

Status: Today I replaced the radiator on my wife's vehicle. I am pretty sure that the only tools you need to work on modern vehicles are 10mm socket and ratchet and 10mm combination wrench.
Time for a shower.
Confession time: When I remodeled our master bath, I put tile shelves in the shower just so I would have someplace to set a beer or cocktail on days like today. Storage space for shampoo and soap was secondary of concern.
-
I can't work if a booze shelf in the shower is pure brilliance or not!

Status: wondering how to make a translation library that doesn't have problems with strings with multiple variables that might change structure in some languages but also doesn't require the translators to know how a programming language works.
-
If the standard printf syntax (
"%1$s killed %2$s"
,"%2$s was killed by %1$s"
) doesn't work well enough, an often-used alternative is something like"{{KILLER}} killed {{KILLEE}}"
. But be careful - pretty much the only words in English that may change with sentence structure are numbers. Other languages can change much more, both on the placeholder side (words spelled differently depending on whether they're subject or object) and on the sentence side (verbs changing depending on the gender of the subject).

Thanks for restating my question more verbosely.
-
Ah, so that is indeed what you're looking for. I recall mucking about in the translation files for alpha centauri years (decades?) back, and they had what seemed to me as a nifty system to handle various elements of this. I don't recall how it actually worked though, and my game disk is defective.
I know our company guidelines on this front are "Don't get in that situation".
-
Looks like they removed all screenshots and replaced the last one with a black rectangle?

Status: God damn I can't trust my brother. The only Belgium thing he has to do for his assignment is copy/paste text and he wouldn't even finish that without lying that it was done.

Or that's just how Steam handles a game with zero images.

I am going to watch your MMO while I play my MMO!
Which is better BTW.
-
Watching Ben play his MMO is better than playing your MMO? Sad life.
-
No my MMO is better, but it actually crashed about 10 seconds after writing that post so I take it back.

Side bar WTF is

It's just ?
-

It's not brilliance, it's just a good idea.
-
If you had ever showered with a beer or cocktail to drink, you might file it under brilliance.

Well, my MMO has motherfucking hanggliders in it, whereas @blakeyrat's has skinnier cat people:

Status: I want a video game to have a Jon Jafari cameo where he just says "and then some shit happened I guess or whatever" in the worst voice acting he can do and the video game skips forward three chapters.

A fun game I play while doing the washing up is thinking of "It's not drinking alone..." slogans.
My personal favourite (which is all that matters) is: "It's not drinking alone if there are other people in the house. Even if they are in another room having breakfast."
-
The lower one has better graphics.
-
It's also about two orders of magnitude more zoomed out.
-
It's at least one full game engine generation ahead. Probably two. It'd be more surprising if it didn't have better graphics.
I also keep it on medium because it's less prone to crashing if the graphical settings are lower. Although today I ran on high and it ran like 5 hours before that one crash, so. That's pretty good I guess. By ESO standards.
Here's a screenshot of a Khajiit in ultra-high:
Oh, Aelif!
