I strongly suspect that statistic applies only to the US
Don't be silly. We are Americans, nothing outside of our borders matters.
-
This is their first chance to learn to sell themselves.
I ***hated*** that when I was a kid. I was terrible at it. I'd still rather starve in a cardboard box under a freeway overpass than cold-call sales to people I don't know. (Sitting at a table outside a grocery store selling Boy Scout popcorn, or something like that, is not so bad; at least the customers are voluntarily initiating the interaction.)

If that is what you think sales is, you have never known a good salesman...
Edit: Nevermind, you were only talking about selling crap door to door.

good salesman

I strongly suspect that statistic applies only to the US, since Thanksgiving is primarily a US holiday. (I know Canada also has a Thanksgiving, but I think it's on a different day (but I'm too lazy to check).) I would have guessed New Year's Eve.
Don't forget St. Patrick's Day. People here go to the bar that day as soon as they wake up.

selling crap door to door
Or telemarketing, or anything that involves my initiating contact with people who are not already actively interested in buying what I have to offer. Even if they are actively shopping, if I have to persuade them to move from shopping to buying, I'm probably not going to close that sale. I'm not good at persuading.

Sales is only marginally about persuasion. If you are selling something to them that offers them the best option, you are doing them a service by leading them to it. If you are creating artificial demand by coercing them in to buying something, that is both difficult and arguably immoral.
-
I don't disagree, but it's the latter that I rather cynically think of when I think of "sales." Even the former, well, there's a reason I am in a non-customer-facing, non-managerial technical job, rather than something with more interpersonal interaction.

I spent about 5 minutes writing code today. The last few days have, mostly, been meetings or calls.

Don't ask blakey for instructions on how to install it...

Leak or heater failure?
It has a slow leak.
Don't ask blakey for instructions on how to install it...
Yes, I remember that debacle. I won't be installing it myself. The challenge will be getting something to fit. The space is barely 19" wide and new heaters (this one is nearly 30 years old) seem to be at least 20. The downside to tankless is that I think it will require some electrical work (no gas here).

If you already have an electric water heater in that location, it should not be an issue? But, they also have a very limited temperature rise as compared to a gas unit.
-
I was looking at stuff at Home Depot, and to get an electric one powerful enough, I think I'm going to need more juice than what I currently have. Also, the plumber / water heater guy who took a look at it said that I would probably need it.

I spent about 5 minutes making a fix today, then about an hour and a half trying to get it checked-in because some fucking asshole at this office had installed a pre-commit hook in Git that required NPM and a bunch of trash without talking to anybody in the back-end team first.
-
the plumber / water heater guy
I thought we logically proved else-thread that plumbers are women.

I don't remember that, but since @Polygeekery has already said that mustaches are too much for him to believe, this guy's beard would send him right over the top.

I'm pretty sure that if I lived 131 miles from a place where I could legally indulge in hookers and weed, I would probably be divorced by now.
It seems far more likely that you'd be beaten to a pulp and/or dead.

Are you sure you don't just need to flip the breaker?
ETA:

The breaker was broken. Flipping it did nothing. Remember?
-
Are you sure you don't just need to flip the breaker?
If I did that, it would stop giving me hot water. It's still heating water, but it's leaking.
ETA:
Fair enough. Actually, I turned the breaker off the other day to open it up and take a look. Then I forgot to flip it back on after I put the panels back on. Oops. Fortunately, I showered first the next morning, so I had hot water.

I have a few friends who do. It's an awesome phone given the price. Anything else in the $180 range is a piece of bovine excrement...

Everyone else got to build character, eh?
Heh...just my daughter. My wife noticed the lack of hot water before showering. The daughter noticed how the hot water ran out in the middle but didn't say anything to anyone.

Galaxy S6 Edge+
Yeah, as others have said, because Samsung is a terrible company.
I'm sure @NeighborhoodButcher would be happy to tell you all about the problems but basically TouchWiz is the worst OEM skin out there. It's gotten better recently but it's still utter crap.
My recommendation is the Nexus 6 if you want a larger phone, or Moto X if you want something smaller. I've used both and I have no complaints about them at all.
-
He's already got the phone.
I don't find anything wrong with the version of Touchwiz on the S5.
-
No he didn't. Unless I missed that...
Have you used phones from other manufacturers? It's not as easy to spot the shittyness of TouchWiz if it's the only flavor you've used
EDIT: Oh 27 Aug so he probably did. Woops.
-
No he didn't. Unless I missed that...
You missed it. I have the phone, and I always dump the stock home screen for Google Now.
-

Yes. I had a phone running stock Android before my S3, then a Nexus 5, then the S5 and I have a Nexus 7 too.
Touchwiz was totally shitty on the S3, it's not on the S5.
-
Huh. That's not the usual reaction
I have heard it's better though. Still I prefer stock... For a multitude of reasons, crappy skins being only part of it...

I may be the oddball for even knowing that the night before Thanksgiving is the biggest drinking night of the year.
Twas the night before Thanksgiving, when all through the bar
Not a drunkard was stirring, not even to fart.
The bottles were lined up by the 'tender with care,
In hopes that St Artois soon would be there.

A colleague brought them back from the US. Given what a bunch of chocoholics we are in this office, that bag is being eaten remarkably slowly.
