The Official Status Thread

I should create my own CodeSOD thread.
Probably. It'd be more fitting than in this thread.

Our primary application is in VB .NET (unlike every single other one we have, which is C# .NET).
It's something that was created in 2002, and we inherited/purchased off of someone.
I'm pretty sure that the original developers barely knew any .NET, and what they did know, was C#.
Current status: wondering how the other developers that I work with haven't created a firestorm about how bad this application is.

Making a list, I'm up to 17 anti-patterns.
EDIT: 18

Status: Got a game over on the penultimate boss of Battle Mania Daiginjou.
I should maybe go to bed now. Playing games while sleepy is a barrier to being good at them ...

want to borrow one of mine?
I'm intrigued by the one in the rear, and by the fact that it's in what could well be a woodworking shop. Did you by any chance make that yourself?
-
I recognise the one at the front though, have been round the place in fact and even have one of their souvenir 'mini bats'. (Which, as the tour guide reminds us, the TSA deem a 'deadly weapon'.)

Nerf gun bullets?

I recognise the one at the front though
Any American1 that doesn't recognize that deserves to be stripped of its citizenship and deported to whatever God-forsaken hole in the wall country it came from.
1Yes, I know you're not. I might give you a pass if you didn't, and a brownie point because you do.
Filed under: Chrome's spellchecker recognizes my "recognize" but not your misspelled "recognise."
-
I have to admit I was quite intrigued as to how complex it actually is to make baseball bats and found the tour of the factory very interesting. Well worth the price of admission.
Also, en-GB dictionary actually recognises both spellings ;)
-
Well worth the price of admission.
If I'm ever in that part of the country. I'm roughly 2000 miles from there. I don't doubt it's worth the price of admission, but I do doubt it's worth the price of airfare from here to Louisville.
-
Yes, it's not that good. But if you're in the area, sure.
If you happen to be in the area, I'd also suggest the Mammoth Caves, quite a sight.

100% wool dagger?
-
No, you could probably unwind it and strangle someone with it.
-
Strangling someone with a single strand of hair?

No, you could probably unwind it and strangle someone with it.
I remember reading somewhere once that it is legal to take knitting needles on a plane. Maybe, but ISTM that you'd be likely to come under extra scrutiny if you tried; I wouldn't want to try it.
-
Strangling someone with a single strand of hair?
It would be rather difficult to make a dagger, or anything else, with a single strand of wool. The fibers are only, typically, 1.5 to 6 inches long.
-
With several strands of hair, then?
-
Yes, well, that's what yarn is, after all (for a rather large value of "several").

for the benefit of us non Americans, what's the big deal?

Think I preferred this one:

both images were found by going to images.google.com and searching for clue bat. for me at least they appear in the first row of results.
I do have a clue bat but it is not nearly so fancy, it's just a Louisville Slugger (aluminium) with CLUE spray painted on

After finishing "7 languages in 7 weeks" and "7 databases in 7 weeks", my life felt empty... void of meaning... Until today.

It's a baseball bat. Baseball is the quintessential American sport, the Great American Pastime*. Anyone who does not, whether they like the game or not, at least recognize its principle objects — ball, bat, glove, cap — is not a Real American. It would be like a European not recognizing a (soccer) football, or an Englishman or Indian not knowing what a cricket bat was.
*Even though its popularity has been surpassed by football (American style; yes, handegg for you snarky Euros) and, maybe, basketball. Unfortunately for its popularity, it's not well suited to people with 15-second attention spans.

Sad. I was hoping you had made it so we could bore everyone else by getting into a discussion of woodworking tools and such.

I would love to make one, however i lack a lathe to make one on.
-
As do I. I never really had a wood lathe; my dad's didn't make the journey north when my mom died (probably garage-saled; I don't remember), and my (formerly my dad's) metal lathe got sold along with all my other tools when I was out of work, and I haven't been able to afford to replace most of them, yet.
-
hmm.... i wonder if i could rent time on one from a locak maker shop... theres two in the area, maybe one has a lathe....

Testing interns: easy
Reporting on it here: TIME SINK
-
I recognised it as a baseball bat, just assumed this one had some sort of special significance like a particular make or something
-
Well, it is a Louisville Slugger, which the brand one thinks of when one thinks of baseball bats. Hellerich & Bradsby have been making baseball bats since 1884, and selling them under the Louisville Slugger name since 1894. I doubt one baseball fan out of a hundred could even name any other brand.

Status: Slightly upset that UPS left a $2700 box of diesel engine parts on the front step of the apartment instead of leaving it with the office like normal. At least they were still there when I got home.

Status, just completed adding a dice rolling to sockbot.
simply PM, @mention, or reply to sockbot with the magic phrase XdY where X is the number of dice you want to roll and Y is the number of sides the dice should have ad sockbot will roll the dice. Multiple requests are applowed per post and will be acted on.

UPS left a $2700 box
Thank you for reminding me that the note taped to my front door directing UPS, et al., to the back porch has faded to illegibility. Just printed a new one.
Yes, I've had things taken from the front. Not that thieves can't get to the back porch, but at least packages there aren't visible from the street, so they have to go exploring to know there is even anything to take.
