Status Checking whether the bank login software is supported by wine:
###Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)
What works- Opening and starting the installer.
What does not
- Installing and running.
That's a no, then.

bank login software
seems to be the real
why does it need something to be installed?
-
I'm going to buttume card reader / token that requires client software, most likely communicating with a Java serverlet thing on the bank's website.

That was what I was calling the real .
Except for business use I don't see the point. All Online Banking I've used and seen since the 90ties has been a web page . They don't even require any applets or plug-ins.
-
Well, mine requires a token, but it's either a separate hardware device or a mobile app that spits out codes. No actual connecting to the computer required.
-
a token
Using a token is fine ... mine has a token that effectively reads some kind of flashing bar code from the screen. Point is: I don't have to install anything to use it. The token even works with the website or the mobile app.
-
And this from the website hosting that picture (emphasis added):
@Mark Karvon's website said:
This is the official site featuring the aviation art, military art,space art and railroad art of Mark Karvon. Most of the pencil drawings and paintings on display are available as fine art prints.
...and there you have it. (I had just grabbed the frist GIS that conveyed what I wanted....)

Different banks use different systems here. For banking, mine is web-based and gives me a key that I need to enter into one of these:
to get a return value that I enter on the web page.However, when dealing with the government (taxes, insurance board, etc.), there is a different system (roughly as described by @onyx). It is issued by the bank (and there are several different types, depending on which bank you use ), and hence we often refer to it as the Bank ID (one of them is even named BankID) even though you never use them to connect to an actual bank.
In short: it's a mess.

In short: it's a mess.
Hah! You get it from the bank at least. Now, while only businesses need this, we have like 10 different services here - taxes, health insurance, pension funds, you name it. Every branch has it's own system. Some of them share certificates and devices, some don't. Some of those use the same drivers, some use different drivers but same software package, some are special snowflakes. If you need to deal with all of it I think the minimum you'll have is 5 different USB keys / smartcards + readers.
Oh, and of course, it's all Java serverside. It never gets updated at the same time, so your login to service X may not be working, you update Java, great, now on to service Y... oh fuck, not working with this update!

Status: Moved my other desktop's case from the floor to on the desk, and now the wireless keyboard & mouse are playing up. There's less stuff between them and the dongle now.

Also why do "gaming" keyboards need to look like they were designed by 6 year olds? Why can't it be a "gaming" keyboard but look like a normal keyboard?

That would be the drive to 40960, followed of course by the drive to 41000; no-one was wasting any time getting to 41114 either

Because a lot of gamers have the mentality of 6 year olds. Not all, but a lot of them.
6 year olds with Tourette's.

Status: Noticed three German buses filled with Wehrmacht on my way to work. Ze Germans are back ...
I wouldn't worry too much until @Maciejasjmj goes MIA. They always go to Poland first.

Maybe they made a trip through Belgium while visiting FN Herstal in search for a weapon that works in the desert heat ...

I have no idea but I find it disturbing as hell!

From poking around on imgur page, the closest people got it's
proboscis [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proboscis] of a ribbon worm.
.
Not an expert but from reading what it is I'm going to assume it's dead now. If it wasn't momentarily. So... if that helps....

A customer had an issue with E-Mails - they didn't get sent and the log of the service that should send them said that
InvalidCastExceptions
happened.Going into the service's code, I found this:
If SyncRegConfig.ReadKey("AnniversaryEnabled") = True Then
Definition of this Function:
Public Shared Function ReadKey(ByVal par As String) As String
Well, more type unsafety. Pretty much par for the course in the stuff I work on.
I guess I should just slap TryParse around every access and be done with it, right?But then I wondered how it never threw these exceptions when opening the settings window - it would also try to convert empty strings into booleans there - and so I opened the code of the settings window.
I actually laughed when I found this:
(source code)
```VBNET Private Sub LoadMonitoringSettings()On Error Resume Next ''on first load pnlMonitoring.Enabled = chkMonitoring.Checked chkMonitoring.Checked = SyncRegConfig.ReadKey("MonitoringEnabled") chkMonitorBirgthday.Checked = SyncRegConfig.ReadKey("BirthdayEnabled") chkMonitorBirgthdayAL.Checked = SyncRegConfig.ReadKey("BirthdayAL") chkMonitorBirgthdayMail.Checked = SyncRegConfig.ReadKey("BirthdayMail") txtMonitorBirgthdayMail.Text = SyncRegConfig.ReadKey("BirthdayMailRecipients") NumericUpDown1.Value = SyncRegConfig.ReadKey("BirthdayDaysBefore") chkMonitorAnniversary.Checked = SyncRegConfig.ReadKey("AnniversaryEnabled") chkAnn5Years.Checked = SyncRegConfig.ReadKey("Anniversary5Years") chkAnn10Years.Checked = SyncRegConfig.ReadKey("Anniversary10Years") chkAnniversaryAL.Checked = SyncRegConfig.ReadKey("AnniversaryAL") chkAnniversaryMail.Checked = SyncRegConfig.ReadKey("AnniversaryMail") txtAnniversaryMailRecipients.Text = SyncRegConfig.ReadKey("AnniversaryMailRecipients") NumericUpDown2.Value = SyncRegConfig.ReadKey("AnniversaryDaysBefore") End Sub
</details> Yes, we use VB<span></span>*.NET*
It changed!
Fuck....looks like google finally pulled the plug on the old style chat / google voice thing. I have to figure out how to enable hangouts apparently to make a call.
-
I find the quality ones do. It's just the cheap ones that have the a 12-year-old designed this look. Probably because those are the ones 12-year-olds can afford.
-
Kill it with fire. That is a freaking Xenomorph larvae.
-
-
Wicked, spoilered gif seems to still upset Chrome's rendering.
-
Plural? Not plural? WTF? GIBBERISH!
Are you feeling spunky because your military is invading Belgium?
That might have been it - was only looking at the cheaper ones.
Status: Anyone else dealing with this shit?
Rendering on Dischorse is impossibly broken for me today.
-
It's the spoilered animated gif that does it.
-
Birgth
Ok, who is Birgth, who let her touch the code and where did she lose the rest of the letters from her name?
-
I ... didn't even notice that.
I guess there was some true brillance involved.
-
it was the gif's fault?
this thread is broken up really hard... =(
Status: got XFCE running well enough on this old thing. It's usable... mostly. It's struggling with this crappy video card.
Yup. That old. Need to chuck an extra stick of RAM in it, might work a bit better... And avoid plugging in external monitors when possible, seems to not like that :(
Aww.
Makes me glad that my half-dead-but-probably-still-working secondary PC has a dedicated GPU though.
Wow, I was so busy Friday that I missed posting First of May
Which doesn't happen to me (or I assume @abarker) due to the custom CSS I have for spoilers.
Unfortunately, I only have that on my work computer, not home, and definitely not mobile (where obviously it wouldn't work too well anyways).
-
Fuck....looks like google finally pulled the plug on the old style chat
Hmmm...nope, looks like it still does work. Which is good, since hangouts is so broken.
-
I missed the First of May because my wristwatch doesn't know how many days are in each month. It always goes to 31 and I have to correct when I finally notice it's wrong.
-
Thanks for reminding me!
I don't have that on this computer, I should probably rectify that.
What is it with people using watches that can't tell the date? Next you're going to tell me they don't measure your pulse and work if you have tattoos too.
-
Yup. That old.
Oh wow. Yeah, that thing came over on the Mayflower.
Wait, that metaphor does not work when talking to a Croatian. ;)
