client wants total data consistency between his internal app and a microsite hosted outside.
client also refuses to give the microsite any access to the internal network
Wat?
-
Well our first idea was "make a DB for the outside site and have a service on the internal network poll the DB for changes", but seeing how the data can also be changed from the admin panel inside the network, that's just asking for sync trouble.
Our second idea was to expose the most limited webservice ever, IP-bound to the outside server, working with limited DB privileges - but that was shot down because IT said so.
Our third idea was to make some sort of tunnel and have the internal network service initiate the connection, but it probably won't work since they want the site to be on a bog-standard shared PHP+MySQL hosting, because they don't want to bother with updates and server administration.
Now we research.
-
Also, bonus WTF - access to that external microsite is based on an email with a link and a
?id={GUID}
parameter. Luckily those expire and are single-use-only, but...

The damn thing isn't booting up. It just sits on the boot animation. I've tried half a dozen times, even letting it run for as along as 45 minutes, with no success.
Try putting the microSD card in.
Oh wait.
-
-
My boss said that there was supposed to be a microSD in the box he handed me. There wasn't, and he is on vacation this week. I don't have purchase authorization.
Unless there's something special about this μSD card you don't have, just go just about anywhere and buy a cheap one and either eat the cost (that's why you bought a cheap one!) or submit an expense report. Micro Center has a class 4 4GB for $3.99.

Ladies and gentlemen, @blakeyrat demonstrates SO from the other side! Be sure to tip your waitress etc.

The other side of what? What "side" was I on before?

It seemed like you were channeling the people on SO who weren't helping you.

What people who weren't helping me? What the fuck are you talking about?

Oh, forgot for a moment I was talking to Drax. Pop your environment stack to the persona that understands metaphor and shit, and you'll probably figure out exactly what I was talking about in about 3 seconds, like normal people.
-
Well when you've figured out the answers to any of my questions, let me know.

Car went for a service, part of which involves a "visual health check". Technician found a couple of things that need looking at soon - took a video showing the issues, which was then uploaded online and emailed to me.
Status: When did this stuff get so high tech?!
-
Unless there's something special about this μSD card you don't have
That's the thing: I don't know if there is something special about the one that was supposed to be included. For all I know, it was supposed to have the belgium OS on it (not likely, but I wouldn't be entirely surprised).
-
Well when you've figured out the answers to any of my questions, let me know.
I knew you knew what I was talking about!
If I had any idea how to answer your SO questions I would've answered long ago, in spite of how much of an asshole you are, but the questions I've seen you ask are not using technologies I work with.
-
Well, that's why I suggested buying a cheap-ass card. If it works, fine, you're only out $4+tax plus whatever time it took. One nice thing about living in a large city like I do is I have a store where I could buy such a card almost literally next door.
I assume you don't have the boss' cell phone so you can call him.

If @abarker has the boss' cell phone then how would the boss answer his phone?
-
I assume you don't have the boss' cell phone so you can call him.
Yeah, I'm really going to call my boss when he's on vacation with his grandkids in Disneyland. That'll go over real well.

What are those suggestions?

Linux Hardware?

I think Discourse managed to crash my X server o.O
Everything was normal, I loaded this topic (right around ben's screenshot) and the whole OS started slowing down to a crawl. Suspecting browser going coo-coo, I closed it, stuff seemed fine, started it again, X crash.

no idea. i just hit reload and everything worked.... until my computer decided to turn itself off in an uncontrolled shutdown about ten minutes ago.
i think that something in the new helpdesk
complianceshovelware software is causing problems with chrome.... because it's only on the work machines that has issues

My PC did that a few times recently; turned out the CPU cooler was 200% dust
-
My older desktop at home does that in Chrome for (seemingly) random web pages. I don't use it often enough to look into it or care why.
-
hmm... that reminds me. i need to get a can of air to clean Amaterasu before the next game session.

Natch. They'd just be crashing otherwise.
I'm actually referring to software being listed as available "for PC, Linux and Mac".

Couldn't resist an opportunity to get the "Linux always crashes LOL" dig in.
-
Natch. They'd just be crashing otherwise.
Is that not because of the Lunix hardware?

-
Ben L, you should write an indie game. You got the skillz. The only obstacle is the market is a huge crater right now.

Thanks for reminding me I don't have anything better to do at the moment.

I blew through the 2000 posts/month barrier and held the Spoon for over a month. Compared to that, 50% attendance is nothing

You should have tried for a 2048 high water mark. That would have been cool.
-
Don't encourage that

If we're unfunny and we're parroting what you say.....

Trying to work from home. My VPN is broken. Deja vu, anyone?
I'm working on fixing the problem though, not just giving up. It's a thing that has to be dealt with sooner or later in any case so I don't feel like the time is being wasted.

How did this ever work? Oh, right, the default was always the correct choice in all tests so far. There would be some hair pulling if I caught this in the wild for the first time.
&set(pbxTechB = getTechForTrunk(${pbxLocalExten}, ${pbxInstanceID}, $pbxTrunkB));
No, it's not PHP. Compare last parameter to others for a hint.
