What THE FUCK is even happening now?! This fucking peice of fucking shit software is fucking trolling me?!

Status: Just submitted my best article yet :)
Of course, like the book I'm reading says: "Being an author sucks, doesn't it? It's like telling a joke and nobody laughs for two
yearsweeks"

You know what @sam you're right. This software is "clearly broken".
-
Status: Well, this sure showed me! This is exactly how to deal with customers.
I dunno. This is TDWTF. @sam was being sarcastic but not rude. It's fine in my book.
I think you just a bit butthurt right now.

I fixed the Onebox with a post recook/rebake/refry/whatever, then there was an edit that disappeared most of it, then I edited the original content back in. After that, no idea.

Well it's probably been a couple of hours since the last one. I rediscovered a TL4+ only bug while Jeffing those posts. I'll log it in a bit.

Why would an office suite need security updates? How do you even have security bugs in a text editor?
Two things that come to mind here:
- Macros and VBA extensibility (as noted by @Polygeekery)
- Outlook
-
It just looks like I'm butthurt because a Rediscous bug tricked me into having an edit war with myself. Editing is hard. (It shouldn't be, but it is...)

There is a non-zero amount of risk that everything will shit itself within the next 5 minutes and we start getting 500 errors. What's the increased odds from things just going normally wrong around here?

I am not going to roll my discodice to find out :) just wait a few more days and move this site to beta stream proper.

just wait a few more days
If that what you need to do proper testing, both functional and UAT, I think it is worth it. ;)

Status: Meditating on busted car parts.
70,000 miles of wear and tear (in less than 2 calendar years) on my BRZ has torn one rear mud guard thingy (Five bucks), broken a few plastic clips and assorted idiocy (total ten bucks), and an autocross cone punched in a plastic underbody panel that turns out to be part of the inner fender liner (Thirty-seven bucks).
And then, sometime in the past 2 weeks, something took a chunk out of one of my wheels. I haven't parallel parked, and I don't think I've hit anything, but DAMN is it a big chunk. $360 for a replacement. I might just decide to live with it, unless I can find somebody unloading their stock parts for cheap.

short of having code fall flat on its face unrecoverably in production? probably not..
Do the WHERE clause thing another 3 or 4 times, maybe?
thanks, but i was looking for something else, i don't think i could send data to oblivion on purpose.

Think of it this way—it'll be a "learning experience" for your boss...

Girl Genius. 4 days. 1944 comics1.
Also, job interview. Mostly ok, but some stuff I didn't know, was rusty, or don't have real experience. I'm not holding my breath on this one.
1 Calculated; I didn't actually count them. From date of first online publication to today is 12 years, 5 months and 2 days — 4536 days, according to calc.exe, which is exactly 648 weeks. If they maintained their 3/week schedule without any interruptions — I didn't notice any, but I wasn't especially paying attention — 1944 issues. Even if the assumption isn't quite true, that's a lot of Girl Genius.

Status: the room next to me has the 2 big UPS units in it. 1 of them is broken, so it's been turned off. The other is constantly beeping because it can't communicate with the 1st, and the thin partition wall isn't exactly stopping me from hearing it.
This is still broken. UPS 2 broke on the 12th Feb, and UPS 2 still hasn't been fixed. UPS 1 is still fucking beeping every fucking second.

My experiences with Windows Update have been comparable to the dead parrot or cheese shop sketches from a famous British comedy group.
-"Are there any more updates?"
- "No sir, I just installed them all, like you told me!"
- "You sure?"
- "Yes sir!"
- "Check again, just in case"
- "Nothing new sir"
- "Alright then, I suppose we're done here..."
- "Just a second, sir! Shouldn't you install these 426 critical updates before you leave?"

of course not! that would be a RGE for you! that's bad. just wait for it to fall flat on its face again while being on record as being against the practice. that'll happen by accident again and it will hopefully be a RGE for boss.

What's the average update per reboot on Windows these days? It's probably in double figures by now, isn't it?
I...I'm not sure. I just have horrible, horrible memories of having to go through the update cycle multiple times (not even counting having to download FixIts to update the updater so it would actually DO IT'S JOB).

Ubuntu is at least polite about it, it never pulls that "fuck you, I don't care what you're doing is important, I'm restarting right fucking now" shit.
No, but when Update Manager has finished installing updates and wants to reboot for them to take effect, it pops up the "Do you want to reboot now?" window, stealing the keyboard focus from whatever window was active and the Reboot now button has the selection.
Meaning that when I'm furiously typing
a Hangoucode and press spacebar once, the system restarts, no cancellation of impending reboot possible. That's bitten me in the butt a few times…

well it's virtual surround and abotu $90

virtual surround
Ah, that makes sense

£60 is rather more than I'd normally pay for a PC headset, but if you're serious about your gaming (especially playing FPSs), that's not a bad price.

7.1 surround is awesome.
Except their Synapse lah-di-dah driver crashes all applications that would like to use the mic. Uninstalled it (putting me back to 2.0), and now everything? works again. Will try re-installing some other time.

hmm..... not encountered that yet... btu then i don't use the mic much outside of games...

they're pricey, but the sound is awesome, they're comfortable as anythong and have solid construction.
of course pricy is relative. i spent more on my regular headphones...
