Status: HipsterScript strikes again.
GameStop is running another sale. But it wouldn’t let me check out because it couldn’t ship one of the items to my address. Of course it couldn’t be helpful and tell me which item so I just kept removing them until I had none left. Turns out it didn’t like any of them. In Firefox. Not a problem in Safari but, since I had more time to think, that shopping cart wasn’t nearly as full.

Well, actually—
You know what, let's not go there.
All currently-expected-open blood-flow paths are nominal. No unexpected paths are opened as detected. Expected-closed paths (appear to be) closed.
Seems we're good. For now.

So all those bells and whistles of VS (available since VB6) are unheard of for many seniorest duhvelopers.

@error I'm almost tempted to go on my rant that in such simple cases where difficulty is a single selector, all it needs to do is adjust incoming damage from 0% to 100%. Because Tactician in BG3 (and in Original Sins, and other such games, too) enables additional enemy behaviors like targeting spellcasters and ganging up on one PC instead of randomly -ing. Basically, on lower modes the player isn't getting the right cues to learn the game.

@Zecc said in WTF is happening with Windows 10? And nothing else:
This keeps happening again and again.
[...]- Turn on headphones. They connect and work fine, but after a while the sound starts skipping unpredictably, regardless of battery level. Something like skipping half a second every 30 seconds. It gets just annoying enough when listening to music;
This was happening a lot just now.
I plugged the laptop so it's not on battery power, and it stopped doing that immediately. So there's obviously some throttling going on.
Edit to clarify: when I said "regardless of battery power" in the quoted post above, I meant the headphone's battery, not the laptop's.

Frixis, i think, games are like that too. Xcom and Civ levels above normal may aswell be different games because of AI tweaks. It wasn’t all just giving the AI free resources.
I was warned about this on Cyberpunk so I’m starting on normal instead of scrub mode.
-
@DogsB It also gets egregiously obvious sometimes when some of my guys are within one hit of buying it (rezzing isn't free!), but the enemy decides to basic attack one of the others who are perfectly okay. Then I hit them back and win, because I have no such reservations.
Yeah, I guess it counts as "more forgiving of mistakes" that scrub mode descriptions suggest, and I might have made quite a few. But thanks to this forgiving I will not learn shit, because it is enforced that there are no consequences. With save-scumming I might at least try a different approach.
To that end, here's a funny concept I haven't seen much around: Buddha mode. That is, you take damage until 1 HP, but you don't die. The game could pause (I mean, the computer in most cases knows the result ahead) and pop up something like:
You done fucked around, and with this next attack you'll find out.
At that point scrubs could choose to continue with temporary training wheels and just get it over with (no consequences, other than recording the time you spent in this mode and shaming you for it later) or accept the consequences. Thus it gives the choice to learn, but doesn't waste your time if you're not feeling like you want to.

Google has me so incredibly pissed off, even though I just had an otherwise wonderful day of vacation, that even writing the rant I just posted only left me frustrated instead of it being cathartic.

Status: Worried about the DDF. I'm within a 2-hour drive of the path of the solar eclipse next month. I just ordered a telescope with which to view it. (Yes, a suitable solar filter is part of the kit. I'm neither stupid nor looking forward to blindness.) I also ordered a couple accessories — specifically, a camera/phone adapter. Said adapter is back-ordered until the end of this month. The eclipse will happen on 14 October, and it's a mite difficult to reschedule. I'm more than a little worried that the DDF will push the delivery beyond 13 October. It wouldn't be the end of the world; I could still view the eclipse and maybe even take pictures, just not good pictures.
And speaking of DDF and back-orders, I ordered a sofa back in early June. It was supposed to be available within a week, which is one of the reasons I ordered that particular sofa. (I was planning to have neighbors over for dinner, and I wanted something to sit on besides a ratty, "silver" futon, which could double as a torture device, from Walmart.) It turned out to be back-ordered until July. Then the expected delivery date was revised to early September. It's now been revised again — to February. Meanwhile, they're sitting on my $1000+. When the gets out of the way, I'll cancel the order and buy a different sofa, probably from somebody else.

I can remember viewing a partial eclipse here. To do so safely, we only viewed the reflection of the sun in a bucket of water, which reduced the amount of light to the point where it was safe without eye protection.

Status: Found out about the details of one of my next projects, which will be about developing a medical device to make a particular surgical procedure a lot safer. There's already been a promising proof of concept, so I'll be working on the next stage, to convert the hacked together stuff into something that can go to the next stage of testing (in cadavers).
It all sounds fun, low management involvement, and non- so it will keep me sane while the other simultaneous project has a meltdown (or doesn't, if I can stop it from blowing up).

Our sofa arrived on the day they said it would be here, but we bought direct from the manufacturer, and spent a lot of money on it.

Why does specifying an NFS mount in my /etc/fstab cause my desktop to kernel panic on boot because the Wi-Fi card spits out a firmware panic when systemd tries to wait for my network devices before mounting my devices..... i don't even have the Wi-Fi card configured to connect to the network since this is a desktop and therefore hard lined into my network......
also, i suspect Blakeyrat will lose his cool if he learns i've been willingly using Archlinux as my desktop OS for 9 months now, for work and play.
so yeah..... pretty sure the /etc/fstab change is a red herring. it's still doing it where i need to boot into another OS (i've been using the Arch install environment) then reboot to get a clean boot.
i bet it's something with the 6.5.2 kernel.
yaaay i get to try and figure this out.
or reinstall since it's been 10 months and i like to do that every year or so to remove cruft i installed to try and forgot to remove....

Status: After some effort, managed to set up a shitty storefront thing to start documenting all the Star Trek stuff (and probably more).
First gripe about this template is that is is extremely opinionated on what goes in the footer area. There's literally no UI-based way to change how the footer works, for example to remove the "Follow us and get Free Shipping an all your orders!" or the "Sign up and get 10% off" area.
Like. What the fuck.
Guess I'm intended to hack away the code...
