status updating xcode. Because of course you have to update the ide to enable running on a new point release of the mobile is. Because SDKs have to be built in to the ide and must change in breaking ways per minor version. It's the Apple Way. "Just Works" my shiny metal hind end.
40 minutes later, the 12.6 GB(!) download finished (gigabit internet). 40 minutes after that I'm still waiting for it to finish installing. On my top-end macbook pro with an SSD. And then, once that's done, I'll have to do the post-install install (of the tools on first start). Guess I'm not making any more progress on that ticket today!

The saga of the "free" server continues: new case and fans arrived. Mostly assembled. But the old (200w, 1U size) PSU doesn't fit. And no one makes 200w PSUs anymore in the right form factor. So I had to get a 450w one. And wait most of another week.

Why complain, you end up with more than twice as powerful a computer this way

I opened the Bethesda Launcher for the first time in a while. It pops up a message saying I can't launch games from it anymore and need to link to Steam so it can transfer my games to Steam.
I'd forgotten about that but had been told before so it wasn't a surprise.Didn't stop the Bethesda Launcher from updating Doom Eternal even though I couldn't play it.

Status: For the last day and a half, my project at work has been to import a database dump from one Oracle database into a "blank slate" Oracle database on our side, just so we can get in and export all the documents that are in the database into better consumable files for the client to import into the new system they have migrated to.
I have Oracle on me, and no sir, I don't like it. Hopefully, though, I'm past the worst of it, getting everything set up and able to import from the dump files we received.

Status: Wasted a couple hours rebooting a laptop over and over because Explorer managed to screw up some setting that virtually locked the machine every time it was invoked, either through a file browser or context menu. Clearing the history through the Control Panel seems to have fixed it but I was worried the drive was going.

It could be worse. Just think how many hours @Zerosquare has wasted rebooting @Tsaukpaetra over and over.

Status: Last week I edited a filed exported by our program in an external program, then when trying to import it back got an error by my parser. That was unexpected, as the file is in a subset of the format the parser should be able to handle, so I pushed it aside to investigate some other time.
This morning, armed with a debugger and the file open in a hex editor, I set out to find that parsing bug. While stepping through it everything seemed fine, until I realized that it loaded the whole file without any problems. Tried again without debugger, works.
Unless I messed up completely, it's the same, unchanged file that didn't load last week. And the code is completely deterministic. The worst part: while I have a near infinite backlog of other stuff I need to get done, my mental plan was to fix this first and now that I don't have to do anything about it, I have an "I don't know what to do next" form of writer's block.

Thing is, it failed at least twice. Once in normal operation, once when I hooked up the debugger and saw that there's something wrong but I don't have time for it right now.
I think neither the file nor the relevant part of the code has changed. I mean, I'm quite sure of it. But then, what else is different?

Status: Between Visual Studio and Oracle, I never expected to have just the most frustrating day today.
Now, for whatever reason, with Visual Studio, the Android project I created that is a template and was perfectly set up to run in an emulator or a test device in Debug, and build and be able to archive in Release, just won't work. Open a copy of the project, tell it to build in Release configuration, it's fine. Then, tell it to Archive, and it churns, then eventually fails with:
Invalid Android Archive (no .aab files)
Which is absolutely confusing, as verifying the Android project settings has it set to output a "bundle" (which is the friendly name for .aab) and even the setting in the project file itself says "aab". Even the build info during the archive process says it was set to "aab", but for whatever retarded Xamarin/Visual Studio reason, in the middle, it rewrites the value to "apk" and then fails the Archive process.
And now, I'm going through some process of deleting the bin/obj folders, reopening the solution, rebuilding the project, closing and reopening the solution (because, without the bin/obj, it doesn't know it's Android, so running against an emulator/device and Archiving aren't an option), then rebuilding again, then archiving, and maybe it'll work.
At least on the Oracle side, I have made enough progress to where I just have the damn thing importing, though despite it supposedly importing an export dump, it's failing repeatedly to import table data because it's doing a mix of importing tables out of order and/or importing parent tables with changed key values, because tables that have foreign key references fail to import due to missing parent values.

Status: Annoyed. I ordered two controllers from this place in VA. The box arrived and there's only one there, despite the included invoice showing I was charged for two. I have had more of these shipping episodes since COVID than the rest of my life combined.
Edit: Oh goodie, the contact e-mail link is broken. It's displaying a different address than it's sending to and that's bouncing.
Edit More: There's an HTML break tag separating the e-mails (they apparently have two physical shops). That apparently gets interpreted as a friendly name and an address instead of two addresses. Still, not exactly encouraging that what should still be a valid address is bouncing.

I've been to six or seven gigs since landing on this island and I don't have one ticket stub to show for it. It's all electronic now. They used to be such a good souvenir. I was eventually going to create a scrapbook with them.
You can't even buy novelty tickets. Most of us are marks for that bullshit. It can't be that expensive. How much could it cost to buy a few postcard printers, get an image from the band of the tour tee, add the location and name of the ticket holder and charge a tenner a pop? It can't be more than a pound in material and three or four to the band. The rest would be pure profit for little outlay.
I did get a cassette from a merch stall the other day. Bloody things are making a comeback.

This can only happen if you do something very specific, like run it on a real computer.
