The Official Status Thread

They're more like the Private Rooms concept AOL had (still has? dunno, don't care,) rather than the IM's they had.
XMPP has password protected rooms as a part of the standard as well.
So... um... What's WhatsApp? Is it just another messenger? Yes, I'm out of touch, I only use IRC actively, anything else I only use by necessity.
-
Is it just another messenger?
That's the impression I have of it, and a quick scan of the first page on Wikipedia seems to support it.
-
Yup, WhatsApp is sort of pimped/tuned up replacement for texting. Just got bought by Facebook for a couple billion $$.
Current status: suffering under the intense heat of the daystar.
-
FWIW I see nothing wrong in liking private messages. Even if it were only for two people. What's the big deal?
Moving them elsewhere, now that's a whole different story.

One thing I didn't try: moving posts between PMs...
Not that I can currently imagine a use case, but I'm sure it's possible. At least for an admin. Moderator - not so sure...

We need a board to stress test new topic creation.
I find your ideas interesting and would like to know more before asking to subscribe to your newsletter...
I'm open to the idea of creating what could loosely be called a sandbox for creating essentially lots and lots of single post topics, but what are you looking to test/break/otherwise fuck up?
-
Discourse. You know, the usual.
Is there a maximum quote reply limit? Is there a maximum chain for reply to before the disverse explodes? Can I fill up the entire hard disk with 10kb files? Can I surpass the max (normal) file limit and make discourse slow to a crawl trying to find all the associated topics? Can I hit a new topic limit in a day? Can I get around said limits by using reply as new post?
Breaking things
Maybe figure out why < script type="text/javascript">alert('Rawr');</ script> gives a 503 error here, but not on meta.discourse.org.
Or in simpler terms: Somewhere to put my 'ignore me' thread where it's more appropriate to have sprawling spam.
Ideally this section [WOULDN'T] show up in the recent topics list, since that might be a barrier to normal WTFing.

Level 2, and above, only. Because.
-
I'll refrain from massive spam in that board until it's dropped from the primary list, in interest of not being a total asshole.

The Level 2 requirement should cover most of that. Logged in users should mute that category in prefs (don't think I can default a cat' to ignore.)
-
Nooooo - I almost ninja posted your quote for muting the category into your first post. Literally slammed the door right in my face.

You talking about my deleting the system generated bollocks that I deleted after locking the first topic?
-
No, you locked the post in one-post board literally right as I was going to click reply. The yellow banner popped up and when I hit the submit button I got a 403 forbidden error.
-
Ah. In the middle of the one bit of admin I forgot to do before making it public...

Getting off the <kbd> now.

Oh my! Can you smell the irony? Toaster popups anyone? I'm quite surprised no-one on there, especially @Matches, picked up on it
I have pointed it out. Now to wait for the response.

Be careful what you wish for. It might not be exactly the same you thought you wished.

Strictly speaking, I wasn't actually wishing for anything. I was just expressing my sentiment that @abarker's shower was not a popcorn-worthy show. Watching someone else whose persona, at least, is female would be more interesting to me (but only if reality matches the persona); however, I was not expressing an actual wish.
I vaguely seem to recall someone who I think might have been you, but maybe not, posting a physical description on some early "introduce yourself" topic (but not "The lurker's thread;" you don't appear to have posted there) that I could probably find, were it not for dicksores's awful search, so if it was, in fact, you who posted that description, I think I understand what you mean in your second sentence. (That is definitely not the longest single sentence posted here, but it's probably the second longest. So far. Now, no doubt, some dickweed will try to beat it.)
Filed under: Minor typo in the last sentence above, and now I have an urge for beets for dinner.

Playing with a Python script that iterates over a list of events coming up. Since certain events are recurring (every Sunday afternoon, every Monday night, every Friday night, every Saturday morning, etc...), but the actual events are not associated with a date other than in text, I'm trying to get it so that placeholders show up if the event hasn't been created yet. Not exactly fun.
