Try disabling JS, you even get paging
Hmm..
- How does that actually translate into crawlable URLs, though? If Google is getting pages and we're not..
- So if you go to a page it is returning a fully-rendered page to the browser, which then uses JS to implement infinite scrolling?
- Have you guys not seen trouble with Google's fraud detection? It seems you'd be serving somewhat different content to JS versus non-JS platforms, which could kill Pagerank. Or is the content similar enough that everything works fine?
-

A curl/wget that I tried earlier returned about 10 posts. I'm guessing (didn't bother looking that closely) that there are forward/backward links in that page that's returned that will crawl forwards/backwards.
-
Probably should switch to using fragment identifiers for posts rather than path components until browser vendors decide to do history push/popping differently.
Fragments introduce their own problems, though.

I'm more curious about the specific implementation (I could look, but meh). I get that it's using previous/next navigation, but how do they map that URL space onto what the AJAX app uses?
For example, your post there has the AJAX URL http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/vote-of-no-confidence/270/152 but they're probably not serving a page-per-post to Google, so if I went to Google and searched for "a curl/wget that I tried earlier", what link would Google return? Googlebot would think that post appeared on page 16 (assuming 10 posts per-page as you said.)
I'm just curious what URL Google would end up with and how that would actually take me directly to your post.

Some cursory Googling seems to indicate that they don't have the hardon for these forums that they used to. I tried to find fairly unique phrases that have been used on the new forums but they apparently haven't been indexed yet.

That's because there's not yet enough Morbs here to get Google in the mood.

It looks like they haven't gone into the topics at all. The only thing that comes up is the basic what.thedailywtf.com.

What I'd like to know is if we're ever going to be able to change font family, color and size. It it said that Markdown doesn't allow this.
This simply won't do!
You used to be able to do that, but it was nixed from the HTML sanitizer.

at least I still have my spoiler block

Yes, I want all my posts to be sparkly pink marquee'd Comic Sans!

So summarize mode is a complex bugfix to not wanting to use pages?
I went for a bike ride yesterday, and in a moment, I thought to myself: "But lo, endless scrolling isn't a vision, it's an implementation detail!"
Well, summarize mode for a topic (only available at the top of topics with 50+ posts) is like saying "to hell with the bikes" and getting in your car to go faster, further, easier.what is the sort order for topics, and can I set that to reverse-chronological by either first post or latest post?
On the homepage (/latest), reverse chron by last post is already the default. As a general rule, I read all threads to the end before replying
Have you guys not seen trouble with Google's fraud detection? It seems you'd be serving somewhat different content
No, the content is the same -- it's these posts, like this one you're reading right now. The presentation is a bit different.

Can we at least get support for Cornify?

Well it looks like a lot of people have already migrated over from the old site. It might just be to rubberneck, but the old forums are nearly dead, and we haven't even begun the pogroms to evict them forcibly.

I don't think that's going to work very well around here.

I just clicked Summarize for this thread. I don't understand the utility. It just collapses a bunch of random posts. How does it decide which posts to keep? It collapsed my "disgusting miscreant" post, so I did have a chuckle when I opened that mystery bar.
It's really not faster, though. Still loads items the same way, except now the forum lies about how long the thread is, and sometimes you see a bar that says "n posts hidden"

Summarize mode is only useful in case of thread that is not derailed. Once derailed summarized mode as useful as brake on car that does not have wheel in first place.

WTF is onebox?
"More businesses choose Onebox Virtual Phone solution. Free trial!"

"This OneBox module will return users' names and phone numbers from an LDAP directory"
"OneBox results are when Google shows information within a special unit,"

Yeah, it's obvious which one is the Discourse onebox. It's not at all obvious from the name what it means/does.

It's his step-mom. You didn't know that, but the dreamcatcher did. The dreamcatcher knows all.

I assume it has something to do with more efficient packaging? "You only need one box for all this stuff if the box scrolls infinitely."

Oh, totally legit then.

This raises an interesting theological point--could God create an infinitely-scrolling thread so long that even he could not jump back to the top?

Nobody can jump to the top. The Home key doesn't work. Have you been paying attention at all?!

"You only need one box for all this stuff if the box scrolls infinitely."
I recommend putting infinite scrolling in the big metal box behind the building.

Actually, they fixed that now.
That's how good the service is: the things they break, they usually have fixed within a few hours!

"Summarize" only starts working on topics with 50+ posts, but it's only useful if the topic hasn't derailed?
