🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD

Perhaps I was not clear enough.
Do Samsung themselves normally have artics on the road in Argentina, or is this one with four large TVs on the back the first, last, and only?
What load was that artic carrying?
Marketing stunt is a marketing stunt. If the artic was empty, then it actually made the road more dangerous as it didn't replace a normal one.

This Middle East inspired theme park in China.
I was intrigued. This homage in China? It is explained:
Sands Macao (Chinese: 金沙娛樂場) is a casino resort located in Macau Peninsula, Macau, China. It is owned and operated by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation [my emphasis], and was designed by Steelman Partners, LLP.[1] It comprises a 229,000 square feet (21,300 m2) casino, and a 289-suite hotel.
Las Vegas Sands chairman Sheldon Adelson has said that his company will soon be a mainly Chinese enterprise, and that Las Vegas should be called "America's Macau".[2] The president and chief operating officer of Las Vegas Sands Corporation predicted on February 12, 2007 that Macau has topped that of the Las Vegas Strip and will more than double again by 2010.[3]

In other news, this forum started today.
Ah. "Patchy" is the word used to describe that service here.
http://who.is/domain-history/sagsmitheinz.de gives little more detail however, merely that it's status is redemptionPeriod
A domain with the status “REDEMPTION PERIOD” or “PENDING DELETE RESTORABLE” has been expired for some time and was not renewed. When most domains expire they go into a post-expiration grace period that vary by domain type that usually lasts for 40 days.

what browser are you using? because i get TLS1.2
-
I recognise those dev tools!
@Zecc's using Firefox
-
-
The issue Firefox is talking about isn't the level of TLS, but that the certificate's key or fingerprint or something is only SHA-1. The Browser Forum hath decreed that such certificates can no longer be considered secure, and must be updated to include a SHA-256 fingerprint. Certificates without one that are valid into 2016 have already been marked with "DANGER WILL ROBINSON" in Firefox, Chrome, and Safari, and the deprecation warning indicates that after this October 15 support will be pulled from all those browsers and you won't be able to connect at all. IE and Edge are scheduled to continue support for one year beyond that, but with identical deprecation warnings.
I don't know which certificate it's whining about, because it's not TDWTF's; @Zecc needs to hover over the file name to the right, which is cut off in this picture.
Also, you idiots are linking to HTTP imgur, not HTTPS imgur, causing Mixed Display Content warnings like @accalia and I are picking up. So, don't do that either.

Objects in the screen may be closer than they appear?
Or people just end up focusing on the screen and miss important things on the road, like maybe the truck braking.
-
Discourse itself is a pretty okay image hosting service anyways.
-
Or people just end up focusing on the screen and miss important things on the road, like maybe the truck braking.
No different to currently, where they're too busy focussing on their mobile phone or satnav to notice the truck braking
-
That's a lot different, because they're doing that to themselves instead of an asshole trucking company creating moving distraction.
-
Oh yay, another thread where you're bringing in irrevelant bullshit just to up your postcount.
-
Is that projection I'm reading?
It's not irrelevant bullshit at all. I pointed out how these screens could be a source of problems and then you brought up other irrelevant things that are distractions but have nothing to do with the topic of the discussion.
-
If a driver is distracted and crashes, the source of distraction can be whatever; the important thing is the driver was distracted
-
So your'e saying it's not important if someone comes up with new distractions? Because that's what you're saying by calling my point bullshit. Because those other distractions are going to exist whether Samsung puts TVs on the backs of trucks or not.
-
And it's up to the driver to not be distracted by them
-
Ah, now we're victim blaming!
At least you're not denying that you aren't saying it's a bad thing to deliberately introduce distractions.
-
Ah, now we're victim blaming!
Did I say the driver of the truck? No I didn't. He can't see the screen, can he?
@boomzilla said:At least you're not denying that you aren't saying it's a bad thing to deliberately introduce distractions.
Chained negatives knowing you're talking about
-
Did I say the driver of the truck? No I didn't. He can't see the screen, can he?
Fuck. IHBT.
-
LOL @RaceProUK and @boomzilla, you are arguing for the point, but from different, closely focused perspectives.
Now, for unrelated reasons, (because I may not get the opportunity to do this without being accused of necromancy) and for purely subtle humour. May I present the ultimate in road safe (in the context of the image) goods transport, thank you:
Not the image I truly wanted (that of the same perspective and situation), but good enough to allow you (meaning everybody) to "reposition" in your (meaning everybody's) mind's eye, how use of such can maximize the view ahead without distraction. The humour of it, I will leave as an exercise for the student.

That nose thing is something fairly common now days so I don't know why you think it's a bad idea. A bad idea would be to leave a 2 months baby to drown on their own mucus.
-
I've never seen anything like that. We always used the bulbs (referenced on the page). They say those are horrible because they're invasive, but they don't seem all that invasive. The idea of sucking on a tube to get my kid's snot out is pretty gross, even though thinking about it, the filters make sense.
-
Oh! We didn't use those bulbs. IDK how effective those are but if you have good lungs your baby's nose will be very clean using one of those pictured.
The idea of sucking on a tube to get my kid's snot out is pretty gross
And cleaning their shit isn't? Watching their head pop out of a vagina isn't? Everything in kids until they're 4-5 yo is gross.
-
I don't inhale or swallow that though.
-
And cleaning their shit isn't?
There's such a big difference with doing something with my mouth vs my hands that I can't believe you are serious.
-
FYI, those particles responsible for something called smell go from poop to your mouth-nose.
-
There's a big difference between a few dozen ppm of odour molecules and a teaspoon of nasal mucus
-
I have two kids and never swallowed any goo from using those things.
-
…congrats?
-
-
Awesome--it's both a knife AND a
clubhammerWRENCH.What is wrong with you people?
-
-
I heard microwaving it will fix that sort of thing.
-
I hear they've found a way to cook using radio waves, so microwaves may be deprecated.
-
Goddamned I actually put my headphones on hoping he'd explain why he was hitting the phone with a hammer, and it's not even in English.
What did he think was going to happen?
-
Protection from the protective case?
-
Those cases are designed to withstand knocks, like smacking the side of a desk or something; they're not designed to withstand a repeated assault from a 5lb claw hammer
-
He might have been proving a point or something. The clip sounded enacted.
-
Oh I'm sure it was an act, otherwise he wouldn't have made such a big show out of proving the phone was working at the beginning.
I just need a translation.
-
Do Samsung themselves normally have artics on the road in Argentina, or is this one with four large TVs on the back the first, last, and only?
i never saw one. and i normally go trough a highway with lots of trucks.
-
5lb claw hammer
That's probably a 12 oz (edit, that's 0.75 lb, for our friends who aren't used to thinking in pounds) or at most 16 oz (1 lb), hammer. A 5 lb hammer looks like this:
-
Status: Trying to fix something that is spitting "Error: Failed" to stderr while simultaneously printing "Done, success!" to stdout.
EDIT: How did this end up in this thread?
-
, probably.
-
How did this end up in this thread?
I had one of those earlier. I tried to reply to something in the cupcakes topic, and it wound up being a reply to Blakey in the Status topic.
-
Must be my magnetic personality!
HA HA HA HA!

My initial thought was that they switched the phone out at the 6s mark for one that was already broken.
You generally show the payoff of "Hey! The phone is magically not broken" rather than just showing the broken phone though.
