It's disturbing how often people ignore the gates. Apparently, they're just special and the gates don't matter. Unfortunately for them, they sometimes have a cluebird strike via multiple tons of steel.

Yeah, tell physics how special you are. Behold the field where physics grows its fucks. Lay your eyes upon it and see that it is barren...

You people got me looking into lojban.
Representative quote:
Lojban uses a variant of the Latin (Roman) alphabet, consisting of the following letters and symbols:' , . a b c d e f g i j k l m n o p r s t u v x y z
The alphabetic order given above is that of the ASCII coded character set, widely used in computers. By making Lojban alphabetical order the same as ASCII, computerized sorting and searching of Lojban text is facilitated.
-
Quick! Write a Go application which translates Dwarf Fortress output into Lojban!
-
Fun fact: the capital version of
'
ish
. So lojban alphabetization only works if you don't have capital letters randomly in your words.
-
-
Do you see a
w
in that list? I don't see aw
in that list. And'
is only allowed between vowels.
-
ell, t'at is even orse t'en...
-
If a word ends in a consonant, it's the name of something.

I don't know about insurance. But around here if you get hit while crossing with the barriers down you get to pay the damage to the train too
-
A better link may be http://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences/show/1076250
It shows that Lojban is the second worst, after German, in sentence length.
-
la tom gletu la meris ca lo nu fanva dei sepi'o lo me la'o gy.Android.gy. me'u cabra
-
But in the English version, was Tom fucking Mary on the Android device? The sentence is gibberish!
-
Also, I find the various "brackets" like lo-ku and gy-gy (*) absolutely ridiculous.
(*) - whatever that means, just saw it around Android in your sentence.
-
gy
meansthe letter g
. You're allowed to put any word afterla'o
and the non-lojban quotation continues until you say the same word.
-
Apparently
ju'i jbopli
meansAttention, Lojbanist!
#</sup.This is incomprehenisble.
-
dj
makes the sound thatj
makes in English.
-
gy
meansthe letter g
. You're allowed to put any word afterla'o
and the non-lojban quotation continues until you say the same word.So gAndroidg? 'at?
Also, why did the Lojbunnies decide to append s to Mary?
-
dj
makes the sound thatj
makes in English. Please point me to the 'dj' in @tar's post
-
j
makes a sound that doesn't exist in English.
-
j
makes a sound that doesn't exist in English.Uhh no - actually it doesn't.
j is like s in pleasure.I think you were thinking of 'x'?
I'll make sure to add a large serving of salt to anything you say
about Lojban
-
dj
makes the sound thatj
makes in English.In Mandarin
x
is pronounced likesh
but with the tip of the tongue behind the lower front teeth

WTF am I reading?

Could you guys take the Lojban discussion elsewhere?
I know this is the bad idea thread, but...
Edit: this wasn't supposed to be a reply to you, Boner. Sorry about that.
-
It shows that Lojban is the second worst, after German, in sentence length.
I considered replying in German but I don't have the time to type it all out.
-

-
-
But I had to. I saw it and couldn't NOT reply ;)
I also easily lose track of how old posts are >.>

A Frend and Ai traid too cum* up widh a fonetik spelling sistem for Inglish wer every vaowul combinashun onlee maid won saond and every saond onlee had won spelling. But hee is American and Ai'm Inglish and wee ran intoo too meny prununseeeishun differensiz. Awlso wee ended up widh things laik 'eeei' in dh middul ov prununseeeishun, wich looks horibul and Ai think is konfyoosing.
But Ai'm kaind ov fainding dhis fun. Yoo kan reed dhis rait?
*yes yes, Ai no. Dhis is anuver problem wiv dhis spesifik werd. But dhees dais evereewon snigers at it wen it's spelled normalee too.
-
-
-
Yoo kan reed dhis rait?
At about half normal speed, but yes, I can ;)The problem with a phonetic English is the language has around 50 different phonemes, and the ~25 vowel sounds are notoriously variable thanks to accents and dialects. Even some of the consonant sounds differ, though not as much as the vowels.
-
-
And this post is one reason I'm thankful that I only need to leave the post on the screen for a bit to banish the blue dot, not actually read the post.
-
At about half normal speed
Yoo wud get yoosd too it.
the ~25 vowel sounds are notoriously variable thanks to accents and dialects
Dh mein problem is wen dh purson cuming up widh dh fonetikalaisashun yooses a dialect dhat maiks too saonds eekwal and insistz wee can yooz won speling for boeth and reepurpus dhe uvver as anuvver ov itz posibul saondz. But 'oe' cud bee yoozed for dhat just fain and dhen 'o' cud bee dh short 'o' saond and if Americanz prunaonse it dh saim as 'a' dhen dhey can.
-
Yoo wud get yoosd too it.
Eh, I don't know about that; besides, it's hard enough reading some of the posts here already, without having to learn a whole new spelling system. That, and my typing's starting to get as bad as a certain someone's…
-
Could you guys take the Lojban discussion elsewhere?
I know this is the bad idea thread, but...
We don't exactly have a "quixotic idea with implementation but that doesn't matter because it will never have mass adoption anyway" thread.
EDIT: This could probably be shortened to "quixotic ideas thread" without any loss of information.
-
Eh, I don't know about that
If it wos yoozd evereewer and children and IFL lerners wer tawt it from dh start dhen peeple wud soon get yoosd too it.Dher wud hav too bee a peereeod ov aierning aot dh problemz and geting too a fonetik sistem dhat werked for evereewon beefor it cud be rold aot.

Dher wud hav too bee a peereeod ov aierning aot dh problemz and geting too a fonetik sistem dhat werked for evereewon beefor it cud be rold aot.
it might be the cold medicine, or it might me you spelling but that makes my brain hurt tying ot parse it.
and i'm USED to parsing bad spelling

Reminded me of a classic:
Directors at Daimler Benz and Chrysler have announced an agreement to adopt English as the preferred language for communications, rather than German, which was another possibility.
As part of the negotiations, directors at Chrysler conceded that English spelling has some room for improvement and have accepted a five-year phase-in plan. In the first year, "s" will be used instead of the soft "c". Also, the hard "c" will be replased with "k". Not only will this klear up konfusion, but komputers have one less letter.
There will be growing kompany enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replased by "f". This will make words like "fotograf" 20 persent shorter.
In the third year, DaimlerKhrysler akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reash the stage where more komplikated shanges are possible.
DaimlerKhrysler will enkourage the removal of double letters, whish have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of silent "e"'s in the languag is disgrasful, and they would go.
By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps sush as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" by "v".
During ze fifz year, ze unesesary "o" kan be droped from vords kontaining "o", and similar shanges vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.
After zis fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubls or difikultis, and employes vil find it ezi to kommunikat viz eash ozer.
Ov kors al supliers vil be expekted to us zis for all busines komunikation via DaimlerKhrysler.
Ze drem vil finali kum tru.

It's awesome that people have been stealing Mark Twain's joke for so many years.
-
Pretty certain it was Samuel Clemens'
-
I'm pretty certain you're a fucking moron.
Regardless of what name he authored it under, the point is it's his "classic". Whoever wrote the bullshit version you just posted here stole his work with no attribution. And that sucks.
You can't say something ripped-off is a "classic". In that case, it's the original that's the "classic" and what you posted was a "rip off".

Please provide me with a source that actually and properly attributes it to Mark Twain. All I can find is "allegedly Mark Twain".
