🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD

True, but generally speaking it's not a bad tactic for domestic docile & putting potential actual threats on edge 'Oh shit, they know!' type of thing. Reverse psychology experiment?
-
As a 'you're already suspicious of them' measure, it's not a terrible test. As a preventative measure, which is what this is, it's a bit of a failure.
@Matches: Nah, I don't credit the government with that much intelligence. That's the thing... the terrorists don't have to do anything, because they already basically won.
-
It's one of those cases where people feel clever for thinking "hey what if I donated to this TOTALLY RANDOM kickstarter" (like people on reddit thinking they're clever for upvoting "test post please ignore"). And then it spreads memetically and ends up with some lucky guy being several tens of thousands of dollars richer.

Hardcoding your old CSS px to new 6 significant figure Magic Number™ percentages.
For example:
float: left; - width: 196px; - @include medium-width { width: 176px; } - @include small-width { width: 166px; } + width: 17.6576%; margin-right: 12px; }
Or
float: left; - width: 760px; - @include medium-width { width: 650px; } - @include small-width { width: 600px; } - margin-left: 20px; + width: 54.0540%; + margin-left: 1.8018%;

But those changes are 'awesome' right??!?!?
Pass. I might give the software concerned a try, see if it is awesome. Wonder if it has anything to do with the fonts...
-
Look at the committer.

I know. Just taking the piss...
Don't even know why I looked at that diff anyway - just popped up on my RSS feed; it's not as if I don't have another 1100+ posts to skim through from other sources...
-
So was I When I see a commit from someone called 'awesomerobot' I'm going to assume that their commits are similarly awesome, is that wrong?

is that wrong?
Not really.
Jeff thought it was awesome though - he actually merged it in:
Jeff also has confidence in his developers' regex skills (this 20 mins ago from the

Debian is really easy. And it's documented almost as well as the BSDs.
But I just can't use it for work. I'm a developer, damn it. And I use a cutting edge language for the cutting edge features. I can't get stuck using a two year old compiler.
It does a great job in my media server/virtual box machine.

I thought we established weeks ago that his general baseline persona is fuckwit. So as long as everything he says sounds like it came from an asshole, you can consider it as if it were a compliment/agreement from a regular human. The time to worry is when he actually agrees with you.

2000 - Bad-ish
2000 was good. Especially if you consider that it came behind NT4 (ugly and barely usable) and run along side W98.

first steps to making discourse more responsive
Well, it does say "first steps." I don't understand how this stuff would make dickcourse more responsive, though.

I don't understand how this stuff would make dickcourse more responsive, though.
I get the impression that there is an implied "... on a mobile/tablet" missing from the subject.
-
Yeah...so...better sized? "More responsive" just doesn't seem right. I guess more responsive to viewport size changes? Just awkward.

Man you guys suck at regex. (kisses muscles on both arms)
This isn't wrong or obnoxious.
It's funny.

Dude, I called my coworker a bald gremlin the other day. It's probably fine.

Quoting someone else's quote leads to confusion about the original author. Is that a bug?
I only expanded the original quote because it didn't seem like a @PJH style comment.

I agree. But then, it's colored by people's expectations.

Same sort of thing happened over at CS if you were careless/couldn't give a shit.
Highlighting a deeply quote-nested block of test without the surrounding

ing scaffolding would result in a similar outcome and attribute it to the poster being replied to.Usual response by the victim was... well my next post shall demonstrate the phenomenon...

Fuck off - I didn't say that.
This isn't wrong or obnoxious.
It's both. FOAD, DIAF etc, et alia, and so on and so on...
Flamewar ensues.

That was why I put bad-ish. Many people were happy with 2000, but many people thought it was terrible. It was not a success like any of the widely recognized good versions (98, XP, 7), but neither was a huge failure like ME, Vista, or 8.

How recollections of times change. I recall tons of people being 2000 bitter clingers just like people did more recently with XP.
-
Maybe I'm remembering a different version. It can be hard keeping them all straight sometimes, especially when they keep changing the version naming scheme.
-
And who's to say that they can't break that pattern anyway? They could always release another flop with 9.
Now smart person from Hyderabad is at helm of affairs. Do you really think he will produce a flop? I am sorry, but he is a bright man who will produce great success.

You're being an idiot Nagesh, so let me keep this simple:
Smart people screw up. Smart people fail. "No choice but to succeed" just means that failure has really undesirable consequences, not that success is inevitable.
We will just have to wait and see how successful Win 9 is.

Canonical broke PS3 Controllers and clones thereof about a month ago in one of their kernel updates.
Which is why I am running mainline at the moment and kind of in a sour mood towards Canonical's kernel team.TRWTF is people choosing a distro based on desktop environment, though!
I use a not-mainstream WM with KDE's applications and could care less about what the defaults are.
And yes, the distro I'm using is Xubuntu.
