@anonymous234 I bet there's someone out there who'll pay that $5.
That's a lot of blowjobs considering the box says 5 cents.
There wouldn't be a lot left after the first one. I'm not sure why you'd pay for 100 of them unless it was all paid in advance.

Mmmm, yes.....
Stop thinking about the box.
But... Box!

Chrome supports a W3C standard and that's a bad thing?
Next you'll tell me Chrome shouldn't support JavaScript by default. Or JPEGs.

@ben_lubar Does the standard state the DRM cannot be disabled?

Does any standard state that the standard can be disabled?

It's a carrot. It's not a hot dog. There are no hot dog-like qualities to it. It tastes like a burnt carrot.

You have a good point. Having that in Toronto keeps the probability of encountering it vanishingly small.

Each one serving a letter for Discourse's avatar CDN

@Onyx
you put sugar on your fries?

True story: when we go to McDonald's my girlfriend's kid will not eat her fries without an ice cream cone to dip them into.
Last time we went together with some friends and she taught their kids the same thing and apparently they also liked it.

I think Wing Stop does. At least that's how it tasted the one time I ate there. (And that is why I haven't been back.)

I used to dip my fries in the chocolate thickshake. It was delicious.

If it's easily disabled, it's not really DRM, is it?
-
@another_sam said in 🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD:

That depends; would you be able to view the protected media with the DRM disabled?
-
@dkf The answer would be 'no'.
-
@RaceProUK Well, in that case there's no problem with having the DRM be easily disabled. (Yes, there's technical consequences. That's The Point.)
-

Nah, can't be that. Probably just my genetic predisposition to having wide bones.

The DRM in question only runs when that specific media format is being played.
This is like someone arguing that the JPEG decoding part of a JPEG decoder should be able to be turned off. Just don't feed it JPEGs, you crazy person!

Delicious, grilled, barbecue-sauced, meaty bones.

If you were seriously concerned about the likelihood of critical flaws in the decoder -- say, flaws that could be exploited to run arbitrary code at the kernel level -- you'd probably like there to be some way to ensure that the decoder didn't even try to decode anything, and so be it if that means a few webpages have broken image or missing plugin icons.
Just having the code in place and enabled presents a potential entry point for malicious code from the web to attack your machine. Disabling it closes that.
As a server admin, do you open every port and enable every service under the sun? If not, why not? It's the same reason. Closing the ports and disabling the attached services eliminates potential entry points for hackers. If you're not using those services, they don't need to be turned on.
And while it'd be pretty unpleasant to try to browse the web without JPEG or PNG decoders enabled, most people could probably live without DRM enabled as they're browsing the web. Like Java, all of the times that you actually need it, you'll probably know it, and the rest of the times a webpage would try to use it would probably just be for malicious advertisements anyway.
