How do I get back to the actual site this is a forum for?
-
We use a custom plugin to implement our theme. The header detail is at:
https://github.com/sitepoint/discourse-theme/blob/master/assets/javascripts/discourse/templates/header.js.handlebars#L217-L222I rather think, however, that they're using an old version since the class named in there doesn't actually exist in the current source:
Not entirely correct. We are on an older version, but we use a custom style included in our theme plugin.
Did that help?

Did that help?
It requires a(nother) plugin, so not really. It's a chore to get new ones added, and invariably involves an update to core as a side effect, the latter of which we're trying to avoid.
Ta anyway.
-
No problem, I understand the desire to not want to add a plugin. It isn't a fun process (one can only hope it improves at some point in the future)

Wha.....!?!?!?
Discourse completely defeated the purpose and usefulness of plugins, single-handedly?
I mean, I knew some of the user features where , but this is inherently broken.
-
Because it invariably cuts off at a cliffhanger in the conversation.
1. Paula Bean blah blah. 2. Wow, that's a terrible idea. 3. ... 19. That is one reason why you don't do this idea. @person what would cause this problem?
I mean, didn't we have this big whole debate over infinite scrolling, because you don't want to break up the conversation.

I assume it's a poor man's "Featured Comments" like we used to have. But the extra page navigation kills it for me. And the automation probably isn't as good as the manually curated comments anyways.
-
The super annoying thing is that I have the discourse "open links in new tabs" option enabled because that's what I usually want, and the main site "continue this discussion" link opens a new tab as well, so if I'm not careful navigating from the forums to the main site and back, I suddenly have this plethora of tabs open...
-
How am I supposed to get back to the site once I'm in Discourse?
You don't. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here...
-
And the automation probably isn't as good as the manually curated comments anyways.
Probably? Probably?
-
It should use the post score from Discourse. I'm sure that work perfectly.
-
Exactly.

Doesn't Sidcourse have a "Summarize this Topic" function built-in which would seem to be the obvious way to get a summary?

I think you and your "logic" need to leave.

Sounds contagious.

That's what the
score
I mentioned is used for, according to people who understand Duckhorse better than me. I guess that might be an easier way to get the list, it's probably in one of the JSON files you can request. Somewhere.Sounds contagious.
If it were I'd weaponize it already. Have a few places where I'd like to drop such a logic bomb. Namely, Earth. Other places might be over budget.

Probably? Probably?
How the fuck would I know? Like any sensible person, I've never looked at the "Top n comments" pages.

I think I may have, once, by accident.
-
-
There's a 'Top n comments' page?
There's a link to something like that which acts as a bridge between the comments page when you come from the article page.
-
Ah, I remember now!
Normally I find the articles via the forum thread or Feedly, so I've never had a need to use that feature.
-
the forums have been the homepage for me for...uh...a long time.
Same here. I rarely visit the main site any more, the forum is more than enough to keep me occupied.

Even if so, that's kinda undiscoverable, isn't it?
Last time I wanted to go back to www.thedaily :WTF: .com I had to google for it (because I had deleted the bookmark, figuring I can reach the articles hitherfrom). That's even more undiscoverable.

[pre-quote="blakey"] Just because there are more fucked up ways of doing things does not mean that placing the link in some obscure place is right. It is the opposite of right! It would make this shitty platform even shittier. You're an idiot! [/pre-quote]Yes, well, I just though that...
[pre-quote="blakey"] You are not me, and so per definition you do not think. No go away from my forum. [/pre-quote]
But...
[pre-quote="blakey"] No! Idiot. Liar. Nincompoop. Shutup. [/pre-quote]
Hahaha! Oh man, @blakeyrat is hella funny even in imaginary conversations.

There's a "main site"?!
