Don't edit @blakeyrat's topic titles

Hell, I still want to know what the "leader" tag in profile cards means. I was somehow supposed to telepathically know that, too. So far nobody in this thread or over PM has explained that one.
If you click on the Leader badge in someone's profile, it takes you to the badge's page. If you click on the link in the badge's description, it takes you to a meta.discourse.org topic explaining that Leader is Trust Level 4 and what that means.

"new mods" is something that should be announced.
It's @PJH's policy not to for whatever reason.

I'll probably get blakeyrat to change his mind by saying this, but that's a bad policy.
-
Really, you don't see a badge or icon after someone's username on some forum and immediately think that it means they have some special rank? I think it's discoverable.
Like this?
-
I'm kind of curious about the reasoning behind it. I really don't care either way, since
A) I understand the meaning of the shield
B) Moderation doesn't really affect me, the most I interact with it is through flagsso I am not bothered by an announcement (or lack thereof). It is a strange policy though.

Not quite

I understand the meaning of the shield
The odd thing about the shield is that if a user is just an admin, there is no shield. You only get one for moderators (or admins who are also moderators).
Why does a moderator warrant a visual difference on every post but not an admin?Other than the obvious response of "Discourse".
-
Probably because admin is more "behind-the-scenes" than a moderator. I'd imagine on most forums they wouldn't perform moderator duties as often, and would simply maintain the installation.
-
Damn.
I sometimes wonder if the Unicode committee didn't just have a huge-ass drinking game where everybody had to keep drinking until the person whose turn it was came up with a new symbol that wasn't on the list yet.
BLACK_CROSS_ON_SHIELD? Seriously?

I'd love to hear the reasoning behind that, assuming there is some and it's not just random neuron firing.

So if the stupid glyph is needed to show they're staff, there should be another one. Or the same one.

I've replaced the default admin "trophy" fontawesome glyph on my Discourse instance with a gavel glyph—I think it's a much better semantic fit for the role of administrator than the trophy is. There's probably a whole examination of the underlying gestalt that could be gone into here—the trophy speaks to separateness or perhaps excellence; it sets aside a thing as being worthy of approbation or at least notice. But IMO it doesn't wholly square with the role and concept of a forum admin (plus, ...

Pub is @PJH's codename for @boomzilla.
He's been in the pub a lot lately.

Man, I almost missed your point entirely! Here, now it's unambiguous.
