Best we have is @ben_lubot when it's online but the output is completely unreadable It seems to call out to jboski. Years ago when I was more into Lojban than I am now, I tried writing my own translation software, but in the end I gave up due to the time it took.

That's what they do to legendary artifacts. Like Planepacked.

Like the legendary birch chair I saw in Gnomoria. Just about the first thing built, right behind the first plank and workshop.

Gnomoria seems to have taken the stance of "let's simplify Dwarf Fortress and get all the gameplay mechanics mixed up". Strange moods are supposed to be elaborate.
Fucking RuneScape got it right, and RuneScape is a game where steel is the third-weakest material.

What sort of steel? There's loads of grades of the stuff.

Oh, in a game. I was just talking about real life.

Last night I fixed a bug in my AI where it would see that it needed more bookcases, beehives, liquid-storage jugs, wheelbarrows, minecarts, food pots, or stepladders, but instead it would always order nest boxes to be built.
The reason is that I had forgotten to check item subtypes, and those are all subtypes of
item_toolst
. (For some reason, Tarn Adams uses hungarian notation for struct names and nothing else).

To be fair, it's actuality a good item. Indestructible door that closes instantly.

Better than it sounds. You can build it in a big pit and 'orrible monsters(building destroyers) will go into the pit to murder the door but fail, and stay locked in a struggle with the door for eternity until they are shot by crossbows.

... this is supposed to be a "realistic" sim, right?
-
Ben L you should write an AI to solve Skyrim. You can use SKSE to make a quick and shitty API for it.

Ish? Maybe? The building destroyer thing is a side effect of building destroyer AI targeting valuable objects and artifacts being indestructible. Eventually he'll get around to tweaking the AI to target valuable destructible objects.

I remember--I watched both your Gnomoria and DF videos.
You do things basically the same way you do them in DF. You eventually figured out how to tell the gnomes where to mine--you can do the same thing (designate a block of land) to tell them to chop down trees. Then you can order one to build a workbench. From there you can start building planks, which you use to build crafting stations. At those, you can, for example, take planks to build a table or chair. More complex items have more parts; for example, a bed requires, I dunno, a tailoring station or something, and you have to create bedding and combine that with planks to make a bed.
I'm, of course, not suggesting you do this, but if you watch/read a DF tutorial to learn how to play that, again, you do the same stuff in Gnomoria.

How the fuck does that help me.
My problem wasn't figuring out how to dig, it was figuring out how to build a room. In Dungeon Keeper, a vastly far superior game which is actually fun, there's just a toolbar of room types and you draw them on empty cells and then your little worker imps build the room.
Your little paragraph there also doesn't tell me how to mark-out rooms. Which is the part that I was stuck on.

Dungeon Keeper
I tried to replay this recently, and I just didn't enjoy it. I think I got bored because of drawn out gameplay.
-
@swayde The first or second?
Like all Molyneau games, the sequel is significantly better than the first.
-
@blakeyrat I've only played the first one.. I might just buy it on gog. After I make sure I don't own it in some bundle, or on steam...
-
@dkf This is not the thread you are looking for.

If you read more than one sentence, you'd know how it helps you. Just like you tell the gnomes/dwarves to mine. "Rooms"--as far as I know--isn't really a concept. Dig a 3x3 square with a door (bigger if you want to let them have some more room for pathfinding), and then designate an area as a workshop. A random dwarf will come along, find some wood or stone, if any is available, then build it.
Are you just being difficult or do you want to actually know more?
-
@FrostCat said in Dorf dorf dorf dorf dorf little person dorf dorf:

^- that's the thing I couldn't figure out how to do. And your condescending posts here also don't say how to do it.

Did you try playing it recently on Windows 8 or 10? I remember it needed a bunch of "Windows XP" fixes to even run on Windows 7, yet the sound was absolute shit as it couldn't stop stuttering and popping.
If you happened to have a better time then I'm all ears.
-
@JBert IIRC Gog's copy of Dungeon Keeper II ran pretty good on my Windows 8.1.
-
@JBert 7 or 8.1, but it took a few tweaks to work IIRC
