Dear MS, most Dutch Lovin' π people use emoji keyboard πβ¨ππͺ

So please stop installing the dutch keyboard with every program you install and please please please do not change the keyboard layout for the login screen. I just took about 20 minutes to logon to my pc. I have a 17 (approx I do not even know for sure) character muscle memory password.
breathe in, breathe out
I had just installed VC (somehow pyside needs it to install) and after the mandatory reboot I could not logon. In the end it was that the dutch keyboard I uninstalled several weeks ago, suddenly was installed and default. So all of the special characters in my password were wrong. So it is time to select an ascii only password?
-
Take a look at the upper left corner of your screen when on the lock screen.
-
I know I found this after 20 mins.
-
What version of Windows are you even using that the keyboard settings are changed by an installer?
I will agree though that the behaviour in Windows 7 and earlier was rather bizarre in that each application could have its own keyboard layout active - it's disturbing when switching from app to app and seeing your keyboard layout change.

Ok, but that's Linux (KDE?) and yes, I was aware that they at least give you the option to choose your Switching Policy.
Windows 8(.1 ?) has a checkbox "Let me set a different input method for each app window" instead.

Pretty sure you could disable that.
-
Windows 7 indeed. My university has just switched from XP.
And I do not mind if the keyboard settings change per app. It is annoying yes but not a deal breaker. But changing it for the logon screen is just evil.
-
Ok, but that's Linux (KDE?)
Yes. Same thing is available on Gnome at the very least, but this is what I currently have running.

And then they decided to upgrade to Windows 7, which is already in 'extended support'?
-
Pretty sure you could disable that.
There are people who claim Windows 7 Ultimate or Enterprise could do it if you installed some add-on. However, I'm pretty sure the other versions of 7 couldn't.

Like most people (probably) I have a dual output Graphics card, one is vga the other hdmi. I prefer to use hdmi (I have a screen that warrants it). Almost every windows update resets the "main" display to the vga. Which means that I have to swap cables over to boot the bloody thing. The annoying thing is that when windows is running and "sane" it detects that the hdmi is in use an uses it.
This was scheduled for the Minor Rants Thread, but it seemed more appropriate here and now.
INB4: Windows 8.1 Pro, not made my mind up about 10 yet - besides I still have a year or so to do so. Fucking GWX, can't (permanently) get rid of the fucking thing.

As I understood it will be a mandatory "fun" update from january onwards.

Dear MS, most Double Dutch people use a US int. keyboard.
Dear Dlareg,Thank you for your important customer feedback. While we value all of our customers' opinions, we also feel it's important to respect each community's culture, and as such we use a region's governmentally-sanctioned standard keyboard as the default keyboard for that region. As such, you will have to pursue a remedy with your government to standardize on a new keyboard layout, to be incorporated in a future Windows release.
Fuck you very much,
Microsoft

I just did the Win10 update, and about half of the processs wound up with that nonsense, with the "updating windows" screen on the wrong monitor, but when it finished it remembered which was which.
Also, as of 8, you can click on the little eye icon in the right of the login password box to see what you typed. so if nothing else, OP could've hunt-n-pecked, if he remembered the actual characters.

Does Windows 10 even support T2?
I have to use a third-party driver to use it on Win7/8.
-
Hold on, just realized something..
I'm currently using
en_US
layout, while living in Croatia, and keycaps on my keyboard arede_DE
layout, for some reason.Do I win something?
-
Up you by one. I have Dvorak at home. I wanted to learn that once, but now it also set to en_US because nobody else uses it and I could not touch type on their pcs

I do not know you should ask volkswagen, maybe they have a hack for it.
-

It'll look supported but get tested and turn out to be not actually supported.

I think it would be more like. It'll look like it is efficient and only uses 0.1% of CPU power. In reality when you are not running taskmanager it used 70%.

Although I've never worked at the government, I strongly suspect they use keyboards with the same keycaps as everyone else in the country: US QWERTY.
-
What is a "US int." keyboard? Does that mean "US international?" Because that sounds like an oxymoron.
Anyway I guess you'll just have to switch to one of those great high-quality Dutch operating systems, etc etc, you guys know the troll by now.
-
I do not know you should ask volkswagen, maybe they have a hack for it.
I think Tribes 2 was a Dynamix game, I dunno why you'd talk to Volkswagen.
-
-
Are you seriously going for this badge?
I hold you to a higher regard!
So let me explain the joke:
Volkswagen had a minivan designated the T2 (which was an improvement of the T1). That combined with the hubbub lately about volkswagen having done hacks to their motormanagement systems. I whipped that into a simple joke.
-
I know you did.

Huh?! I am pretty OS agnostic. As in I do not care about that shit. As long as I can write simple scripts in python and use the rest as a communication device. I do get annoyed incompetent IT department by the way.But you stated Dutch OS, makes me wonder if pyhton could be made in to an OS.
-
It'll look supported but get tested and turn out to be not actually supported.
Well; that's pretty much like every other feature in Windows that is of non-MS origin, right?
-
I know you know, you know. You just want that badge. Although currently Discoshit is having trouble with displaying which badges you have. 502 error etc. maybe we should switch to US forum software.

LIAR!
When something under /users/ fails, Discourse throws 404s, not 502s.

I use
us altgr-intl
and my main Laptop has both ASCII and Hebrew letters on the keyboard. What did you win? Do I get that too? I think I should.
-

I don't know. Still nothing in the mail. Maybe it's cake. I hope it's cake.

I have Programmer Dvorak at work (and home). I enjoy way too much the puzzled expression on the face of anyone who tries to type on my computer.
-
-
And btw, why is Oven there in the thread title?
-
Because some of us can "fix" titles?
Some don't need much of a reason.
-
O.O that's weird...
Mine just outputs to whatever is plugged in. Sounds like Windows Update is giving you some shitty drivers or something
-
-
On a slightly-related tangent, I'd really appreciate it if Microsoft would stop installing apps called "Get Skype" and "Get Office 365" and "Money" and "Candy Crush Saga" on my computer six times in a row after I uninstalled them already.
-
Although I've never worked at the government, I strongly suspect they use keyboards with the same keycaps as everyone else in the country: US QWERTY.
Having worked for "the goverment" yes it is all US QWERTY
-
You are just not aware how much you need those applications in your life. They just want you to be happy!
-
Because some of us can "fix" titles?
I would have expected it to be changed to Double Dutch Oven. Which is something really horrendous. This is just a "normal dutch oven" which is not pleasant but no big deal either.
-

I don't want to Google that, do I?
-
It is not too bad. A Dutch oven is where you fart under the bed sheets and then cover you SO under them (you may change the timing a bit). A Double Dutch Oven is where you both do the same at the same time. Great fun in your early love life.
