What's wrong with my username? Why doesn't discourse like me?
-
Wow, even the little details are fucking wrong as shit. You're not changing "your" name, you're changing someone else's name.
-
I just assumed that the dashboard allows you to impersonate that other user, therefore it's "your" name from the perspective of the site.
-
Nah, that's in the admin panel.
It's not the only way it's wrong.
But now . and - are permitted?
"only ... numbers, letters and underscores"Discoursistent

Actually, you can't change your existing username yourself, so that's an admin interface.
And why the fuck is the limit on username length enforced anywhere else than during the registration? Why can't you post if the username is below the limit?
I mean, there are bugs, there are bad design decision, and then there are things like this where you can't even imagine the code that would cause such issue. I mean, the only place where there's a non-exact match on the username is the @mention popup, and yet it breaks shit sitewide?!

Probably because of
there are bugs
bad design decision
things like this where you can't even imagine the code that would cause such issue
breaks shit sitewide?!
See a pattern here?
And while I'm sure Atwood didn't actually code all that so he isn't the one with the fingerprints all over that code, it is his plan, his team, and his design.
As an aside, posting that from iPad just shows me how much of a hypocrite is, since the experience is terrible compared to on Android, with "quote reply" still showing above the selection (thus behind the iOS "copy, define, more" menu), regularly missing parts of text that were highlighted, and good luck going back to edit earlier parts of your post since it doesn't pick up taps in the editor section, or tap and hold to do precision.

Yes you can, I changed fa-spin_ to fa-spin, @ mentioned both in the bug report thread and broke the user link
It may just be new users though.

There have never been, nor will there ever be, underscores in my username whenever possible.
Filed under: Give me camel case or give me death, [Pascal case works too I guess] (#)

Why are you asking me? It could be _LB for all I care.
-
-
I was actually
L B
with a space on cplusplus.com for a while. Eventually I asked twicker to remove the space - the only part of the site that needed changing was the username field for private messages. Coincidentally, the issue was that nobody was able to PM me...sort of like nobody being able to mention me on this site...

nobody being able to mention me on this site...
Ah, so it's a hidden feature?
There have never been, nor will there ever be, underscores in my username whenever possible.
There never will be and never have been underscores in my username. Coincidentally, there aren't any numbers or any other symbols for that matter (with exception to my early days, we don't talk about that...)
