DevDisasters - Out of Time
-
Hey, check out one of my DevDisasters articles that just ran over on VSM.
Looming deadlines...surprise requirements...WTF code. This one has it all people.
-
Traitor.
-
-
Good article. My main complaint is that you should have reformatted the code to fit inside the code box. I hate scrolling right like that.
-
Formatting _ Visual Basic _ is annoying.
-
Anything _
Visual Basic _
is annoying.
-
```
Formatting _
Visual Basic _
is annoying.I get that, but the biggest offender was the comment block at the top. The only other thing was the parameter list. Scrolling back and forth to read consecutive lines like that is rage inducing. Once to see the list of parameters (or just ignore them) would have been much better.
-
As long as you're not referring to VB .NET
-
-
Nothing but traitors amongst us! It is a mutiny! Mutiny I say.
First things first, scrap this Discourse shit and put us on something sane.
-
I hate to break it to you but if you came here expecting sanity, you came to the WRONG place.
-
-
if you came here expecting sanity
Not sure what I was expecting, but all this shit seems normal to me so apparently I am insane?
-
LSD?
Please. This reality stuff is bullshit. Get some from the CIA, they have the best.
Edit: For anyone who did not get the connection, I was referring to this:
-
-
I'm going to say it now and here since it seems as perfect: I like Discourse. The other forum was crap, we had different formats for the article comments and the forum, it didn't work on mobile and the stupid signatures, ugh!
And I don't know why I replied to hungrier.
-
-
-
I like Discourse.
Me, too. It has different quirks than CS, some much more annoying. But overall I can say I'm having more fun here than I was on CS.
-
I'm having more fun here than I was on CS.
It's certainly more active here than it was on CS, at least in the year or so that I was active there before we were infected with Dicsores. I never had trouble keeping up with a day's posts there.
vBulletin?
-
Yeah, unless there was a good @morbiuswilters flamewar going on the CS forums were usually pretty quiet for as long as I'd been there. Though there was always that thread which had a lot of activity until a year or so ago.
-
I tended to check in every few weeks or so, binge through what I'd missed (an hour or so since I only tended to click new threads), and then wander off.
-
It must have been around the time that I joined that it got quiet. I joined almost a year and a half ago, and I remember it being somewhat active, but not what I would call "a lot" of activity.
He's still talking to himself over there; he hasn't had a response since June (although he's only posted a couple of times since then, himself). I see he's running for office again (or was; I don't know when election day is/was in his jurisdiction).
-
I'm almost afraid to ask which thread y'all mean; the only one I can think of is the Lotus Notes hate thread that had that guy from another site show up and try to defend it.
-
Jam your Noodle!
-
The world's last remaining VB5 programmer.
-
Would either of you care to provide an actual link to the thread, or at least tell me which forum it's in, so I don't have to wade through who knows how many pages of threads looking for the ones with the most pages?
Welcome to the SwampShack!
-
No, no, you're doing it wrong. You want to take a video camera and slowly zoom in on each post, adding commentary. Obviously.
-
At random, of course.
-
Oh yes. With a large forum, random is key.
You forgot to mention editing the final video by playing it on a screen and shooting it with a video camera again, allowing you to crop or cut out sections. And of course all the evidence for aliens which shows up as a result.
Does that include randomly not showing posts? Because Discourse is good at that.
Could Swampy be one of the DiscoDevs?
-
-
Spent a little time (too much, and yet, not enough) trying to find his napkin flow document. That thing was awesome.
-
Could Swampy be one of the DiscoDevs?
Way back in the early days (my Discosearch-fu failed to locate the post), in response to a question about CDCK's development process, Jeff posted a music video about being on crack. Swampy might fit in. He's stoned; does he do crack?
-
Only 55 pages of that thread.
I saw. But I meant the thread list was pages long for each forum, and I didn't know which forum, etc, or even what the topic was, so it was easier to get a bit more info.
I skimmed the first and last pages--I didn't see much to give me an idea of what would keep people posting that much for that many years.
-
All the good stuff is buried in the middle. And a lot of the good stuff is in a thread that (I think) got deleted before I joined. That is actually Swampy Thread #2.
-
what would keep people posting that much for that many years.
I wasn't active in that thread, but AFAICT it was mostly trolling a guy who is too stupid/stoned to realize he's being trolled, and making fun of him for writing the stupidest, most useless piece of software evar.
-
He was allowed to post in TDWTF iff he posted to that thread. And people amused themselves by poking him now and then. Trolling, counter-trolling, insanity? Who can tell?
-
Aww, http://www.thestupidestmanonearth.com/ no longer exists...
I did find this though. The ads are NSFW and somehow get past AdBlock. https://encyclopediadramatica.se/SpectateSwamp
And this. http://www.topshareware.com/Spectate-Swamp-Search-download-42932.htm
With the magic of Discourse I just jam the noodle-- I MEAN post the links and bam, flowcharts.
Source code as well: http://www.telusplanet.net/public/stonedan/source.txt
You've read more of that thread than I have then...
This one?: http://forums.thedailywtf.com/forums/t/8159.aspx?PageIndex=1
Non-spam stuff rarely got deleted/hidden on the old board.
Whoa. So Belgium as a curse word greatly predates Discourse? I'd never seen that phenomenon until the start of the Likes thread.
Hmm, judging by the first page that might be SS Thread #2, meaning the one I knew about was actually SS Thread #3.
I take this to mean you haven't read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which is a problem you should immediately fix.
-
I have not read it.
I hadn't paid close attention but I'd thought the Belgium thing had something to do with the World Cup.
