Sports car hipsters and the foxes who love them

You can't cite the reference as support and then claim it's wrong later
Also, as an FYI.
A supercar (also known as exotic car) is a very expensive and high-performance sports car or grand tourer.[

Not a sports car:

But some are - including the ones you claimed were not

Honestly, this would be enough to make your point
They did pretty much invent the hot hatch though ;)

They did pretty much invent the hot match though
Not sure a cold match would work too well.

Damn TL4s and their making up tyops…

As much as I love the Corvette, no, it's not a sports car.
The new Corvette pulls about 1.15 lateral Gs. That's well into pure sports car territory. A Viper will do 1.05, which I consider the minimum to qualify a car as "good in the corners".
I'm shooting for 1.3 on street tires in my kit car. I should be able to hit 1.5 with race tires.
-
I drive a Volkswagen.
I sometimes do, too.
I usually need a new pair of underwear afterwards.
Ok, it's old, and not in the best condition, it was probably ok when it was new, but that doesn't change the fact that driving that thing = brown trousers time.

Grip ≠handling
-
Grip is a prerequisite for handling. No Grip = Bad handling.
-
-
No, handling is what happens when you run out of grip
Handling is what allows you to powerslide

Which is why I'm building a mid-engine, rear-drive kit car. Adjustable oversteer via your right foot.
-
Does it have a 1.2 litre engine? It needs one for @RaceProUK.
I reckon this means his car has a 1.2 litre engine
-
No, handling is what happens when you run out of grip Handling is what allows you to powerslide
Also, I didn't say "good handling", I said "good in the corners". Not sliding in the first place is (usually) just as good as sliding controllably.
-
Not a ; how well a car handles determines how much control you have over it when one end or the other has lost grip. A car that handles well can be thrown into the most ludicrous powerslide, yet be recovered into a straight line without spinning.
-
It's also what happens before you run out of grip.
Unless you're Jeremy Clarkson, you're supposed to spend your time not going sideways.
-

Of which the Viper and Corvette will do very nimbly and easily. Loads of low end grunt make that terribly easy.
-
Oh, you can get the tail out, but how easy is it to hold it there? :P
-
Easier probably. It's apparently easier to hold with a longer wheel based car. Not to mention more power makes it easier to keep the wheels spinning.
-
You also need a well-tuned limited-slip differential
-
If I manage to break traction with my rear wheels, my crew cab pickup is actually pretty easy to control while sliding. It has a ridiculously-long wheelbase.

Server Cooties attempt #2.

Extremely easy. A torque curve that allows you to easily pass cars at 1500rpm makes it trivial.
-
You can have all the torque in the world; if the suspension and diff are shit, you ain't holding that slide
-
Ok if you end ONE MORE post with a smiley there will be violence.

I am not bench racing. I know from experience. ;-)
Hell, even Jeremy Clarkson likes the C7s handling. ;-) :-) :-P

Clockwork Orange would have worked also.

Thank you sir. :-D

Does the original Tesla roadster count?
Also, though not technically a sports car, the model s with the P85D, dat acceleration and handling.
-
Does the original Tesla roadster count?
It's a Lotus Elise with big batteries and an electric motor; it counts ;)
@theBread said:Also, though not technically a sports car, the model s with the P85D
It's a four-door saloon, ergo, not a sports car
-
I know it's not a sports car, but it's the only car I've gotten behind the wheel of that had nice 'giddy-up'...and actually had a setting for acceleration which toggled between 'normal' and 'insane'.
-
The fact that the rear suspension is leaf springs, and on the road, it rides about as smooth as a jackhammer
Wow. I didn't think there was anyway you could be right with this... but you are. I mean, it's not the primary spring, but a 'helper' spring, but still. That's just weird. There are some interesting reasons behind why they used it, such as it allowing them to use a smaller anti-roll bar, and reduced sprung weight on the independent suspension.
If your looking for a light weight, smaller engined, 2-door, rear drive car, though? No, we haven't made one since the Saturn Sky / Pontiac Solstice. Every now and then there is a rumor that one is in development, but as far as I know nothing has come of it.

You forgot a couple nice ones that have back seats!
Then there are the more exclusive ones.

Oh yeah, forgot Americans call them 'sedans'
