Alignment fail

Continuing the discussion from Kickstarter refuses to email backers of a zombie to tell them it's a zombie, but will email to lie about it going right on ahead:
http://www.goblinscomic.org/kickstarter-theyre-like-wreck-it-ralph-in-a-china-shop-and-each-piece-of-china-is-a-backer/
Nice background, but they could have at least tried to line up the text properly…
Not sure if Error'd is the right place… eh, screw it, it can be moved easily enough
-
I thought you'd upgraded too a proper browser already
-
Browser fail?

Ah, good, I'm not the only one:

Damn it, now I posted a screenshot in the wrong topic!
Also, both Opera (WebKit kind) and FF do it here.
-
I'm not sure exactly how @onyx and you are Doing It Wrong then. My screenshot is from Chrome 41.0.2272.118 m onn Windows 8.1
-
I'm running Chrome 42.0.2311.90 m
-
My screenshot is from Chrome 41.0.2272.118 m onn Windows 8.1
Mine is Chrome Version 42.0.2311.90 (64-bit) on Linux.
-
Looked fine in my browser. You think I wouldn't have commented on that if I saw it?
-
42.0.2311.90 m
Mine updated itself to that when I checked the version and it still works
-
Works fine for me as well, but I'm on @Jaloopa's version of chrome on Windows 7.
-
I tried resizing the window to smaller and bigger sizes in case it's a responsive design failure. I tried full refreshing. Both WebKit and Gecko barf at it:
Opera 28.0 Made to discover Version information Version: 28.0.1750.48 - New version 28.0.1750.51 is available Update stream: Stable System: Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) (x86_64; X-Cinnamon) Browser identification Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/41.0.2272.89 Safari/537.36 OPR/28.0.1750.48
Oh look, I can update. In any case, it claims to be
Chrome/41.0.2272.89
Iceweasel is at
31.6.0
, not sure if it follows FF exactly? In any case, minor version differences shouldn't do... that.
-
Firfox 37.0.1 also fails and looks exactly like your screen shot; Is this PEBKAC?
-
You think I wouldn't have commented on that if I saw it?
I can't imagine you ever missing the chance to comment[*] on a bug

PEBKAC
I clicked the link. The page loaded. The page is broken. Please advise as to how to change my behaviour.
-
Looked fine in my browser. You think I wouldn't have commented on that if I saw it?
I didn't want to post off-topic stuff in your thread, s'all ;)
-
Everything looks fine on Firefox (37.0.2) on my Galaxy S5
-
Same for me in Chrome, alignment is off.
-

I did lots of resizing and no problems.
-
I did lots of resizing and no problems.
Well, it's still as broken for me as it was before. So I guess I can confirm this :P
-
If the ad loads the main text bumps over to where it's supposed to be. (Tried in Opera and Firefox.)
I'd say it was being passive-aggressively hostile to folks using ad blockers, but that seems less likely than just not testing with them.
-
-
What the... where did Iceweasel even get the AdBlock? I don't remember installing it!
Yes, you're correct, I'm just confused about one of my browsers even having one!
-
Project Spartan, by the way, has no Problems

How's that working out on Dischorse though?
-
How's that working out on Dischorse though?
Seems to work fine. Though you either just quoted me twice or the refresh-routine has some issues
edit: Yah, it's the refresh routine. Also, no pasting Images from clipboard.
edit2: Every time I edit, I duplicate the post :p
edit3: I wonder how often I have to edit to break this Thing.
-
Right - that's how Spartan works on Dischorse. So not quite fine.
Also check the "There are x unread and y new...." bit at the bottom.

From the CNet article about Project Spartan:
...much like Windows 10, Spartan is not ready for prime time. You'll bumble along on the Web, until suddenly everything grinds to a halt. You'll click a link, and nothing will happen.
Sounds just like Dischorse...
-
Aha! Now we know who the unethical people are around here!
there's no adblocker here. no extensions at all and it still does that.
-
-
Do you see the 140px-wide ad in the left gutter? I don't, which is why I was having problems (though I prefer these to the problems I would have had with ads). Perhaps you've got some other sort of blocker somewhere, maybe built-in or SpybotS&D "immunization"?
-
It's "always" worked in IE and "never" worked in Chrome for me, for values of "always" and "never" that resolve to "in the 18 months or so I've been reading that comic".
-
Do you see the 140px-wide ad in the left gutter?
i don't see it either, which is the cause of the allignment issue. however i also don't have an adblocker, so any blockers must exist between my computer and the ad server.
given that our intranet block policy is pretty light i don't think it's work network's fault.
-
Also, in Chrome if I pause Adblock it works fine.
In either browser, if you read the post on the front page, i.e., under the comic, it displays properly.
-
however i also don't have an adblocker
js blocker? (just guessing as ads can depend on it depending on which ad network they are in).
-
(Chrome x64 no extensions on Windows 8.1)
no extensions and default JS settings (enabled)
mostly because this is a work computer so if it gets borked that's help desk's problem.
-
So, it isn't because of my ad blocker...
-
well... not necessarily. of course the one i have on my personal machines is tuned to block video ads and only block midroll ads on youtube. picture/text ads are annoying but i'll accept them. give me an autoplaying video or audio ad and i will go out of my way to make sure block that.
I'll accept pre/postroll ads on youtube but midroll ads are just annoying. particularly when i'm watching a comedy something and it cuts in the middle of a joke.
-
I have my ad blocker on ALL THE FILTERS!!!
-
Same here and it works fine. Something with your machine is FUBARed.
Also on 42.0.2311.90 m
-
Different machine now (Surface Pro 3 now, laptop earlier), still buggered...
-
And on my desktop… also still buggered
-
With adblocker = awful alignment
Without adblocker = correct alignment, awful ads.
-
Some people are seeing the bad alignment without having an ad blocker installed though
-
Those people (like accalia) still admitted to not seeing ads.
What about you? Are you seeing a tall ad to the left of the broken alignment?
If not, either the website decided not to serve you ads based on your location (does that happen? sounds unlikely) or something else is blocking the ads on your end.
-
What about you? Are you seeing a tall ad to the left of the broken alignment?
No, but I run an ad blocker with all the filters turned on
-
It's a shame you're running Chrome and are only protected from seeing them, not from actually downloading them and executing what's inside...
-
It's a shame you're running Chrome and are only protected from seeing them
What're YOU using?
I used to use Proxomitron back in the day, but the guy who wrote it died suddenly and no more updates. I don't know if anyone's kept up a filter list since.
