The Official Status Thread

A woman in my neighborhood has two dachshunds, which I often see her walking along my street. The three of them always form a broad isosceles triangle, with dog #1 as far in front as its leash will allow, and dog #2 trailing as far behind as its leash will allow without actually being dragged by the neck. The woman's hand holding the leashes is, of course, the apex of the triangle.

I'm not getting your euphemism here ...

Status: WTH. I virtually stepped through this VBA code, and I still didn't get the result the app said it did (comparing old app results to new-replacement-app results, which differ because raisins).
I just don't even anymore. My code is a pretty faithful translation of the VBA code, yet apparently the actual app I ripped the source out of is either not doing what it says it's doing, or I'm looking at a different version than published (entirely possible, this is in the non-source-controlled section of the network drives. The Real Version might be somewhere completely different...).
-
I just don't even anymore.
Luckily, it was ruled (during a meeting I just got out of) that the New app was Doing It Right, so now the only to deployment is that for some reason file names were changed and fits and curses that nobody thought to wonder if that was right or not.

Status: Well, this has been... enlightening...
- Don't know anything about this task.
- Really, don't know anything at all about this task.
- Nobody has written anything about this task.
- Security believes you shouldn't know about any of the SLA records.
- You can't do anything to the SLAs of this task, because you can't select any of them...
Also, what's the difference between Cancel and Close Task (and why is it repeated in different areas in different ways in the view)?

"genetically equipped to the battle suit"... was that movie description written by the guy who writes YouTube's help tips?
-
I'm feeling a sense of Deja View, but why can I edit this topic's title but can't view the topic title history?
Something seems wrong here....Oh well. I'll never know who added to the title!

what YouTube Gaming even is.
Imagine if YouTube were to release YouTube XTreem. And it's called XTreem because the main demo is all into this cool whack hippy stuff. It's exactly like YouTube, but it encourages people to join the XTreem conversation.
Now replace "XTreem" with "Gaming".

"genetically equipped to the battle suit"... was that movie description written by the guy who writes YouTube's help tips?
Don't forget, YouTube produces movies now.

She sports the laptop better than you, but you look better in a jean dress.

Thank you.
I also have the same mustachioed frog doll on my couch.
(It is seriously a really good laptop.)
-
but it's apparently not compatible with the previous version
That's how major-version updates have always worked, I believe.
-
I've always wondered at that. Seriously, is the network protocol changing that significantly that a minor release means "Oops, no game for you!"?
No, but all the object definitions do. They do a lot of changes between updates.
Plus every once in a while you get a major breaking change, even in this context. Like 1.7 and earlier used numeric item IDs, and 1.8 changed them to be non-numeric (IIRC, this may not be exactly right.) If you opened a 1.8 SP world in 1.7, all the items in your chests (for example) disappeared.
-
Yes but in the past non-backwards compatible updates always asked me if I wanted to update.
The default has always been since I've been playing is auto-update to the latest non-snapshot release.
-
It's not gibberish, you just need to think like a branding droid
Just because a branding droid thinks it can understand that, doesn't mean it's not actually gibberish.
-
I also don't understand what a "YouTube product" is.
"Product" is that stupid[1] term gay men use for hair gel, isn't it?
[1] note which noun the adjective is attached to.

out of curiosity...... why is it refusing to import them?
-
@system doesn't have an email address and therefore doesn't exist.
@PaulaBean has about a thousand private messages she sent to nobody.
-
@system doesn't have an email address and therefore doesn't exist.
hmm..... that's fixable. but i think hardly necessary. all system sends is the welcome emails, the "here's your post export" emails and the "the community didn't like your post change it please" emails.

I'm scared to go to into the database to find out why.

not even for a scooby snack?

You must. For discoscience.
Incidentally, wtf is Paula? Can't be an actual bot, because jeff swore bots were impossible long after Paula was s thing. A module on the main site CMS that directly inserts into the database?

something like that, yes.
-
How the fuck can that go wrong so readily?
-
i'm guessing discourse.
i was seriously considering rewriting her to use a proper discourse bot login sort of thing, but then the jeffpocalipse happened and.... welll..... yeah. i kinda left it at that then.

Since when is your closet not a room? It's multi-functional!

The default has always been since I've been playing is auto-update to the latest non-snapshot release.
It didn't use to be. I did stop playing for quite a while so this might be the first major update I've experienced since they changed it.

Looking for a new home is more stressful than anticipated
Yep, my landlord has been trying to sell my house and a SOLD sign appeared last week on the front lawn. No notice yet though. I'm getting progressively more stressed as zero houses with garages seem to be on the market (who wants a house without a garage?) and I have 3 tons of engines to move somewhere.

Voice in the back of my head: Hey, didn't you just update code for your own custom CSV parser/stingifier?
Me: (Huff) Well, that's different. Clearly my use case was unique, I needed a custom solution.

The contractor basically did.
$csvRow = $value1 . "," . $value2;
That's it. No thought about escaping at all.
New rule: If you insist on making your own CSV stringifier, MAKE IT RIGHT!
