I have one of those weird LG 8:3 ones. It's okay in some cases, but I definitely prefer 8:5.
-
Is that what Dwarf Fortress looks like maximized?

The three mice, at least, is because I am transitioning to the logitech mouse (and a keyboard that will arrive next week) that supports up to three computers via bluetooth. So in the end I will only have one keyboard and one mouse.
I used to have two monitors (plus the laptop one), I am trying this setup for a while to see if it is sufficient.
-
I would skip the cardamom seeds, though.

It's a small Apple keyboard too.
I like the tenkeyless. Since I never use the numpad anyway, they mean less travel distance to reach for the mouse. Plus I can fit one more book or paper onto the desk.

Status****strong text: Got a notice from the building manager that the power will be off this weekend for testing or some shit.
The IT department is scrambling to ensure all UPSes are in proper working order, and shutting down any non-essential servers.
I suppose this means I'll have to power down my computer, too. I suppose it's time for my once-in-three-months-or-so reboots, anyways.

I don't have the chance to learn to love it because it no longer connects to the server if you're using a VPN.

pfft UPSes, who needs 'em

Apparently not me. During the last test the UPS claimed it could run for about two hours on the current load.
It lasted 12 minutes. I blame heat dissipation failure, since the batteries were clearly (newarly) fresh and full after the test.

The power supply does not deliver more, sadly enough.

How do you get XP to run that long without a reboot?

Simple. Just never started explorer.exe

LOL...
$ tail -f tail: warning: following standard input indefinitely is ineffective
Yeah, I guess it would be. Gotta remember to finish next time.

VPN? That's different. Only programmers use VPN. CLOSED.

Why, oh why, can't someone come up with a Consolas DF font or something?
-
Yes, the "prose" about "anatomies" is great.
The prose probably consists of the word "boobies" 3 times. I agree that would be great.

When something gets hung up it just won't let you disconnect or even close. Requires a forced kill.

I've had that happen.
Gives you a real appreciation of how much goddamned work the power brakes are doing to stop even a tiny car.

When you realize that the brakes have the job of taking all of the kinetic energy of a vehicle moving at 70mph and convert it to heat energy without the entire system melting and vaporizing itself on first use, it is kind of amazing that they work at all.
-
Right; but there's a difference between the intellectual realization and you having to actually stop a car without any mechanical assistance.
-
Just release the pedal and dont crash into anything?
-
-
It's not that much kinetic energy. Let's take a car possessing a mass of 1000 kg moving at 30 m/s. That would make 450 kJ of energy to be converted into heat. Sounds like a lot regarding the amount of heat.
The specific heat of iron is 0.45 kJ per kg per K. This means that this amount of energy would heat 10 kg of iron from 0 °C to 100 °C.
While this is quite hot, it's very far from the melting point (or even vaporization).

I was talking American cars. Not your European shoeboxes with wheels and a moped engine.

It's pretty horrible, isn't it? I had that happen on my first car, which was a nearly 10yo Celebrity, and the brakes went out like a mile from home, with hills intervening, and it didn't occur to me to call a tow truck, so I drove it to the nearest garage.
Then two days later, the other circuit did the same fucking thing.

How about a version of that rendered with Consolas?
