Maybe I will shove a week off on the calendar.
Just make sure that your calendar does not look like this:

Or else it will be gone forever.

Video of that huge explosion in Tianjin, China today. Holy crap.
Was it fireworks that exploded? Christ, that is a hell of a blast.

I got parts that I'm going to build. Ordered via Newegg, system board is MSI and video card is HIS - AMD. Intel Core i7-6700K CPU (found it at TigerDirect's business site, they haven't e-mailed me to say they cancelled the order yet :crossed_fingers.gif:
I plan to put up more details when I get back to my home PC.
-
... ok so by "new gaming PC" what you meant was, "parts to be used to build a new gaming PC." Gotcha.

Well that doesn't match what you said:

I think you accidentally a word there.

And here I thought that you, of all people, would understand that a gaming PC's life begins at

GitHub updated their desktop app GitHub for Windows to something called GitHub Desktop.
GitHub for Windows worked.
GitHub Desktop does not work.
I hate Git.
-
Well that's one (wrong) viewpoint. I prefer to believe that a gaming PC's life begins when the first two components are fitted together. :P
-
Fuuuuuck.
So Git sucks ass, and it has a bunch of GUI clients all of which suck ass, and now one of those is broken.
NOW WHAT!?
I guess try TortoiseGit again? Maybe it's somehow become non-shit in the last year? Other than that I'm stumped.
WHY THE FUCK CAN'T THERE BE A SINGLE QUALITY GIT CLIENT!
EDIT:
The first thing Tortoise asks me:
Great. Gibberish right off the bat.
YOUR JOB AS A SOFTWARE DEVELOPER IS TO MAKE CHOICES LIKE THIS FOR ME! YOU DUMB SHIT!
EDIT EDIT:
The second thing it asks me:
So the non-resizeable window isn't big enough to fit your listbox. Do you make it bigger? NAH ADD SCROLLBARS AND SHIP IT! IT'S GOOD ENOUGH! IT'S NOT LIKE FIRST IMPRESSIONS MATTER IN SOFTWARE, LET'S SHOW THE USER HOW SHITTY OUR QUALITY IS RIGHT OFF THE BAT!!!

Back online. The electrical activity seems to be over, and none of the thunder sounded particularly close in the first place — which is a good thing. Attempting to shut things down as quickly as possible and unplug from the mains to prevent lightning damage:
Please do not turn off or unplug your computer.

The theory around out office is that the Lake Chelan fire is fucking up the weather by putting all kinds of particulates in the air.
While large wildfires can certainly produce local weather anomalies, I would have discounted the idea that it would influence the weather over such a large area — until the clouds started clearing and the sun started trying to break through. The sunlight is definitely rather reddish, like it's being filtered through smoke, not just clouds.
TRWTF with the weather, though, is not the weather itself. Forecasts are wrong, quite often, but TRWTF is that with the forecast being so obviously wrong, it hasn't been updated to match reality. It's still forecasting something that hasn't happened, isn't happening, and pretty obviously isn't going to happen.

Attempting to shut things down as quickly as possible and unplug from the mains to prevent lightning damage:
Someone should invent a device that can sit between a computer and the electrical mains so as to regulate power, provide protection from service disruption, and prevent damage from surges. I suspect that guy would make bank.
-
I trust my surge suppressors to protect my computers from power spikes due to things like big motors (refrigerator, clothes washer) switching on and off. I don't trust them to protect against lightning strikes.

I AM A WIZARD

From Steam's patch notes today:

A couple of Steam games crash during loading screen or opening cutscene. I checked the system requirements, and I'm good. Even the prime suspect, my video card, is better than the minimum, although not up to the recommended.
Hmm, what about the driver? Nvidia has a driver that (claims to) support my card from April of this year. Windows refuses to update it; insisting my installed driver is up-to-date. The installed driver is from 2009. Download the driver directly from Nvidia and install it.
One of the crashing games not only doesn't crash while loading, it plays nice and smoothly (except that I keep dying, but I can't blame that on the driver). (The other one still crashes, but it's an early access alpha, so I blame the game itself until proven otherwise.) And Blender now recognizes the GPU can be used for rendering.
Windows, why you lie to me and tell me my video driver is the latest and best, when it very much wasn't?

THE BEST DISCOURSE FORUM BROUGHT TO YOU BY MOZILLA
The Mozilla Learning Network forum is currently down. :(
We've been growing quickly over the past year as more people join us to teach the Web. We built this forum as a prototype for the community to connect. We're way past a simple test, and unfortunately, our servers went down and we didn't have a backup plan in place.
We're working on restoring the site, recovering data and ensuring it's stable so this won't happen again. We'll have it back as soon as possible and will update this page once we have a confident timeline.

Both, but mainly it felt good to write.

The best part is when you notice that you're offline for some reason and choose "quit" in the Steam login options.
Steam then proceeds to load its framework completely and only upon having fully loaded, finally terminates itself. This is evidenced by the fact that I can see the usual Steam window with my library pop up for a second before the window closes.
-
The sunlight is definitely rather reddish, like it's being filtered through smoke, not just clouds.
It's the particulates. They act as nucleation sites for water droplets, and that can tip an airstream from non-raining to raining very easily. Big fires produce a lot of soot.
Forecasts are wrong, quite often, but TRWTF is that with the forecast being so obviously wrong, it hasn't been updated to match reality. It's still forecasting something that hasn't happened, isn't happening, and pretty obviously isn't going to happen.
Welcome to my world.

If I download it, am I going to find a huge bug in the first 10 seconds of use?

Depends on your definition of bug.

Well it's an open source project, so I already know it's complete ass. That alone guarantees it's quality is going to be bottom of the barrel.

I wish I could mute individual tabs. Or even better, have tabs default to muted and then unmute individual tabs.
-
Windows, why you lie to me and tell me my video driver is the latest and best, when it very much wasn't?
The more recent driver probably wasn't registered with them.
Well, that was easy.
-
There is a mute tab extension in chrome but I don't have it installed at work.
-
The "mute individual programs" thing in Windows comes with the OS. Why should Chrome's "mute individual tabs" be any different?
-
I don't think Google actually likes tabs. After all, you should always just navigate by returning to your homepage and searching!
Seriously, what kind of loser has 32 youtube tabs open among 100 others? It's their own fault for being weird and having problems when every tab is eagerly loaded!
Though to be fair, Edge randomly starts playing videos in random tabs on rare occasions.

I half expect that if you search Google for "how to use a scythe", it would say "Did you mean 'How to buy a weed-eater'?"
Damned hipster lawncare.
... and it is quiet. I like that in a tool.
Fair enough. I wish more tools were quiet, but they tend to talk a lot.

Who uses a scythe anymore?
I used to have an Allen motor scythe. It was lethal, it would drag you along at high speed until it successfully buried you in a hedge (or 10 foot thicket of nettles) then stall so you had hours of fun digging it out.
