Closed Poll: vote in this poll
-
Don't change the topic title, Leaders. That's cheating.
- FILE_NOT_FOUND [Edit4 - PJH] Changing the text of the single remaining option while 'still-a-poll' (had to delete the other two)
[Edit3 - PJH] - removing the extant option

Don't change the topic title, Leaders. That's cheating.
I don't have to. There's a
appbutton for that.
-
I can't vote but I presume it's because I'm not worthy.
-
Sorry... :x
-
Don't change the topic title, Leaders. That's cheating.
What about admins? >;-)
Anyway:
-
I cannot vote in Poll that hath been closed.
-
-
That's what I supposed... still, only you and admins can see it (not even myself).
Edit: wow... changing the title to anything that's not "Poll:" or "Closed Poll:" does actually turn the poll back into a normal list.
-
Changing the title back does succeed in turning it back into a poll, and at some point, somebody managed to vote.
-
I voted. I was the second vote.
Addendum: meanwhile I've read the Merging Topics topic. So I'm guessing I've actually changed the title of the poll momentarily, even if indirectly, by opening and re-closing the poll.
-
So I'm guessing I've actually changed the title of the poll momentarily, even if indirectly, by opening and re-closing the poll.
Changing the title in this particular context means changing it to anything other than
/^(Closed |)Poll: .*$/
(and back again, if possible, optionally messing around with the options in the interim.)
-
So, has anyone tried messing with the list while it's closed?
-
So, has anyone tried messing with the list while it's
closednot a poll?FTFY. I'll see what happens now...

It's actually rather resilient to meddling, surprisingly. Then again, . Raw code:
As displayed:
-
So it just swallows the new options. Nice.

Trying to re-edit the extant option next...
-
I wonder what happens to the whole “check topic title to see if it’s a poll” trick if the forum’s locale changes...
My guess would be that “Poll” is hard coded somewhere, non-localizable, and any attempt to change it will break everything.
-
Trying to re-edit the extant option next...
Can you remove options, or remove the poll completely? If so, can you then recreate it and what happens with any votes?
-

Raw:

Deleting the extant option next.

Deleting the extant option next.
Display as not-a-poll
Display as a poll:
I think the poll code, on post creation as a poll, stores the category in the database, and uses its existence whne displaying something starting with the Poll regex...
-
So, if a poll option is deemed to be unacceptable at some point after the lock-down, the only way to remove it is to delete the whole topic?
-
Final permutation from me for the moment - editing while still-a-poll (staff-only I believe):
So, if a poll option is deemed to be unacceptable at some point after the lock-down, the only way to remove it is to delete the whole topic?
Or rename it.
< 5 mins after creation, owner and staff can rename/add/delete options, > 5 mins, only staff can rename, but not add/delete options

Hmmm... would it be possible to create a category that's unreadable (or readable only by admins), but can be moved to by leaders? Could be used as a bit bucket in that case.
Not that we really need it here, but it could be an interesting hack for other Discurse users.

We already have a couple that are readable only by staff for staff use: Staff and Rubbish. However you can't (well, that's probably too strong a word, try 'not supposed to be able to') move topics to a category you don't have access to yourself.
And the permissions available to set on a category (CRUD, RU, R, none) are sufficiently tight that a 'write only' category for any particular (set of) levels cannot be created.
The closest that we could come up with is a Rubbish category that's CRUD accessible to Leaders.

Move shit to the Lounge, gotcha.

How else would you do it? With a checkbox like one of those PHP/MySQL forums?
-
Nah, those festering pile of crap sludgepits generally just had the options right there in the 'post new topic' page. Some have it as a separate link so that you didn't get confronted with too many options on making a new topic.

module ::PollPlugin class Poll def initialize(post) @post = post end def is_poll? if !@post.post_number.nil? and @post.post_number > 1 # Not a new post, and also not the first post. return false end topic = @post.topic # Topic is not set in a couple of cases in the Discourse test suite. return false if topic.nil? if @post.post_number.nil? and topic.highest_post_number > 0 # New post, but not the first post in the topic. return false end topic.title =~ /^(#{I18n.t('poll.prefix').strip}|#{I18n.t('poll.closed_prefix').strip})\s?:/i end
Edit: Sorry - source: https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/master/plugins/poll/poll.rb

I tested adding a zero-width space between "Closed" and " Poll". It breaks as expected.
I'm pretty sure it would break as easily had I used an extra "plain old normal" space.
-
Tried messing around with other languages but didn't get very far. Some of these look suspect though (they include colons e.g.):
[pjh@sofa discourse]$ grep prefix plugins/poll/ -r plugins/poll/config/locales/server.zh_CN.yml: prefix: "投票:" plugins/poll/config/locales/server.zh_CN.yml: closed_prefix: "已关闭的投票:" plugins/poll/config/locales/server.en.yml: prefix: "Poll" plugins/poll/config/locales/server.en.yml: closed_prefix: "Closed Poll" plugins/poll/config/locales/server.it.yml: prefix: "Sondaggio" plugins/poll/config/locales/server.it.yml: closed_prefix: "Sondaggio Chiuso" plugins/poll/config/locales/server.es.yml: prefix: "Encuesta" plugins/poll/config/locales/server.es.yml: closed_prefix: "Encuesta cerrada" plugins/poll/config/locales/server.fr.yml: prefix: "Sondage " plugins/poll/config/locales/server.fr.yml: closed_prefix: "Sondage fermé "

Then all is as it should be.

No, because while it's business as usual, it's still stupid.

You might want to check you sarcasm detector.
-
My sarcasm detector is fine. That's kind of the problem. What we perceive as consistent inconsistency is by design in Discourse, meaning that it is as it should be, but it's still stupid.

So ... we need to drag Jeff back here so we can give him a proper thrashing. Is that what you're saying?
-
we need to drag Jeff back here so we can give him a proper thrashing
We should give him a damn good thrashing with a tree branch.
-
Didn't you also say something about a cactus?
-
Damn good thrashing whilst being fucked by a cactus dildo?
-
Damn good thrashing whilst being fucked by a cactus dildo?
Sounds almost right. I think the tree branch should be from something like an ironwood. That sucker is hard, and it has some pretty nasty thorns.
-
Damn good thrashing whilst being fucked by a purple cactus dildo?
I don't know where you're going to find a purple cactus, and I do not care. Genetically engineer it, paint the green one purple, get it from another planet, but $DEITY damn it, it will be purple!
-
I personally wasn't worried about the colour.
-

Except for the color, this one seems about right:
-
Yeah, a saguaro arm is pretty good. Though, I was thinking, maybe a barrel. About the same diameter, but longer spines, and some even have purple-ish flowers!
-

Yeah, I was thinking of something like that, but I didn't find a picture with a person or other object to show the scale. That could be one of those little 2cm potted cacti from Walmart.
-
Based on the spine length, I'd say this specimen is about 20-25cm in diameter. A small one, to be sure, but barrels can get large. And I couldn't resist sharing this due to the flower color.
