I've bought an iPhone for the first time

@sloosecannon Why would i want to do a factory reset when I have all my phone numbers, data, pictures etc (I have most of this done via dropbox app etc). It isn't acceptable. I don't want to have to fuck around with that crap.
I just did a full system reinstall (upgraded to Android 6.02). Using flash tool, erase everything, etc.
Surprising number of things came back through google integration. I'll still have to restore some stuff from backup, but if you don't have some crazy hermit setup, this kind of stuff is pretty smooth on droid these days.

@bb36e I'm intrigued by the person weight 630 [units]. Most scales in the US don't go that high.

, why did it happened is not known.
Because when they set it up, they checked the "require a password to boot this device" option, which translates to "encrypt fs". It's on by default in new (6.0?) android versions.

@lucas1 said in I've bought an iPhone for the first time:
@sloosecannon I have a proper complaint/support chain at least.
And the answer will be something like "You are holding it wrong" :p

And they'll release updates that bork the older devices, despite technically being "supported"

It would only delete the phone numbers and data
Is this the way that most programmers think?
Eh...FACTORY reset. Seems like there'd be big stories about it if they didn't.

I swipe-righted an iPhone
and I liked it,
I hope my HTC
don't mind it
-
I've spent the past day making my Galaxy S4 launcher and SMS app look like the iOS counterparts. Because I can. (And I like the UI)

Huh? That's weird. My phone must be because I have to go hunt for it in Security -> Encrypt Phone for that option, and it's most certainly not defaulted to "on" when I went through first-time-setup...
Maybe I need to FR my phone just to be sure though...

What manufacturer?
It's default on Nexxi from 2015, and probably other manufacturers from that era. I think they may have changed it with 6.0.1?

Oppo Find 7, but of course I have a custom ROM, so

My grandfather never intend to do anything there except playing Mahjong, so he'd registered a random account and discarded that information.

First mistake.
-
@Tsaukpaetra IMO, the first mistake is to use Android, not DOS if network is not needed at all. :p
I have to try-and-error a lot to find an App that does not need network to play, because for some reason all games claim they need full network access while the one I found has single player mode that does not need networking.
The place do not have internet service because there are only two 90+ years old people living there.

I play a nice pony game that doesn't need Internet after the first download and completing the tutorial.

@lucas1 said in I've bought an iPhone for the first time:
But with Apple you get iOS updates as part usually ... you won't always get that on an Android device.
If you're not on one of the tied contracts, it depends on the device manufacturer, i.e., it's all over the damn place. My old phone never had an update ever. My new phone has already had one despite only having been switched on a bit over a day.
-
@Tsaukpaetra said in I've bought an iPhone for the first time:
Huh? That's weird.
It's on by default if the phone meets certain requirements and the phone manufacturer enables it. A lot of them don't bother.
-
@bb36e said in I've bought an iPhone for the first time:

It's not a requirement. I don't use it, only to backup/restore my phone when I buy a new one.

Everything works great.
Now wait until you need to upgrade the product for the first time... :P
Do you have anything specific in mind? Actually upgrades (be it iOS or buying a new phone) work flawlessly.
Sure, as for iOS upgrades I always wait a week or so to be sure it won't brick my phone, but that's actually a sign of common sense.
-
@lucas1 said in I've bought an iPhone for the first time:
@cheong So far I have owned 5 apple products and tbh I haven't have a problem.
I've been using macs since OSX 10.3 (uni) and they still work fine and mostly it works the same. I had Android Devices that don't get updated after a year, probably because there is nobody in Samsung or whoever that is doing a Rom. Then when I did buy a motorola (as close to a nexus device that isn't quite nexus) so the version of Android isn't laden with crap ware you can't remove ... they break SMS and Phone calls ...
I use my phone as a phone most of the the time and the PDA stuff is extra ... not the other way around.
I'm thinking I'll have to experiment with Nex
usesi some time in the future to check if android can be better than a festering pile of excrements that most manufacturers release.

When Apple release an update it works.
Not really, they're still risky. Some brick people's phones, actually. :/

Well I know Apple likes to upgrade devices past the version they should be - iPhone 4s on... 9.3 or whatever the latest is apparently is pretty terribad.

Yeah, it's actually a tough nut to crack, strategically. On one hand, you want to allow as many devices to use the newest OS, on the other hand you want them to still be usable when running that OS.
That's why older devices usually receive a "cut down" version of the OS and there's usually the possibility to downgrade for some time after upgrading.

Yeah, I'll have to try it finally, when I become bored with iPhones, or when they break it (it could happen).

Yeah agreed. You see it in the Android world too - the 2.3 to 4.0 jump was especially bad and there were a lot of phones that should've never made the jump.

As you do with that particular app, given that the developer is very responsive.
Which actually means "no, you don't". Let's face it, you never have. Unless you're a billion dollar corporation.

You wasted your time.
Seriously.
I tend to like the fact that iOS is so much unconfigurable, cause I used to spend tons of time to make my android look and work the best possible way. On iOS I never miss it. It turns out it's easier to adapt.
It's like with Windows-Linux ventures. People tend to spend tons of time to make another OS behave the way their old one did. It's a fucking waste of time. Adapting is better, it's consistent and it doesn't make you fight the system once an update rolls out.
-
@kt_ For me its not about adapting or anything. I have the ability to make my phone look however I like. So I do.

Don't you use Spotify? Or Apple Music, for that matter?
-
@kt_ some of the stuff I listen to isn't on Spotify. also my mobile data connection isn't very reliable. so I encode my bandcamp hipster mp3s to opus and throw them on my phone
Also there's just something i like about knowing that the music files aren't gonna disappear any time soon, what with being replicated across 3 machines and on the cloud

What prevents you from just adapting to whatever the look is on an Android phone ?
Oh, you are just trying to justify Apple's lock-down. Carry on

Too many sockets for plugging in headphones.
