Deleting topic does not remove notifications for the topic
-
at least i assume the topic's deleted... it was a blakeytopic that had gotten pretty far off topic... either way i get a 404 trying to see the post of mine that was upvoted.
at least clicking on the notification to view my now deleted and inacessable (fakegrump) post marks it read.
-
TBH notifications are a cluster anyways, I just hope this thread doesn't get lost in all the NodeBB hate that seems to be so popular to post about...
-
@accalia yeah, it was deleted. I WANT MY POST BACK!
-
@kt_ it was @blakeyrat's topic, so I assume he deleted it, like he deleted his gun control topic which should've been posted in the gun control trolling thread anyway.
-
@anotherusername it's the greatest misfeature of NodeBB. And @blakeyrat pointed it out himself. And then he fucjing used. Let me get this straight: this is the guy that refuses to use a workaround because he wants the bug fixed but he's prepared to use the most awful misfeature he identified as such.
Now I'm pissed.
-
@kt_ now I'm gonna @-mention @blakeyrat in every post I make. Cause enough is enough.
-
@kt_ because he hates notifications, and there is supposedly no mechanism for nodebb to stop them if you author a topic?

I hate having my posts stolen.
Paging @blakeyrat.
-
@kt_ sorry, but your posts were already sold to a shady looking guy in the street near Inedo's office, there is no recovering them
-
@fbmac said in Deleting topic does not remove notifications for the topic:
a shady looking guy
Are you talking about Ben?

He's my friend since a few days. His name's Tony. Right, @accalia?
Paging @blakeyrat

dude.... stop that.
he may be an ass, but that's just harassment and not cool at all.
-
@accalia do mentions in signatures cause a notification?

@fbmac said in Deleting topic does not remove notifications for the topic:

No. Still, there's being a jerk and then there's just plain rude.
-
@Tsaukpaetra I think @kt_ is a little behind on notifications because it didn't work for him on Discourse, we should help @kt_ keep up
-
@fbmac said in Deleting topic does not remove notifications for the topic:
we should help @kt_ keep up
As we haven't yet determined @kt_'s gender, I'm not sure if they would appreciate any of my attempts at "keeping it up" on him...
For once, Engine is recommending a certain amount of... caution...

Although it'd amount to me claiming it being a picture of my penis, so it would amount to the same thing.
Paging @blakeyrat
-
@kt_ dude, we're on the internet, 99% of the population here is male. I would doubt your word if you said you're a straight cute girl

I don't care about him being an ass, I honestly didn't care. He never got anything bad from me except for mild trolling here and there.
But there were like 400 posts in that thread, there was interesting conversation going on, of course off topic. And it didn't get jeffed. It got… deleted. Puff, and the content is no more.
I liked it and it pissed me off. I feel hurt and totally unfairly too.
So… @blakeyrat, restore the topic already, ask the @mods for not your posts to be jeffed or something and bring us our content back, already. Own up to it for once.

I kinda did.

Not sufficient in any case.

INB4 comes in raging that body parts don't define gender...

Several hundred posts? Just because @blakeyrat couldn't deal with notifications on a topic he started and @fbmac egged him into deleting the topic?
Screw that.
-
@abarker said in Deleting topic does not remove notifications for the topic:

Engine agrees, we should totally get @blakeyrat laid.
-
[redacted]Notice that all of these topics are still in the forum database, so even with ON DELETE CASCADE, the notifications wouldn't be deleted. The topics can be restored, but they probably won't be for various reasons.
-
@ben_lubar said in Deleting topic does not remove notifications for the topic:
so even with ON DELETE CASCADE
Does that even exist on the "database" NodeBB is using?

No, because it's not a relational database. It's more like a filesystem with a fixed number of parent directories per file and indexing.

Someone trying to implement (a crappy version of) WinFS again or something?
-
@abarker said in Deleting topic does not remove notifications for the topic:
couldn't deal with notifications
He has some kind of OCD or weird thing with notifications, it isn't that hard to jeff things around, or just pass ownership from the topic to someone else. Of fix the damn notifications.
-
@fbmac said in Deleting topic does not remove notifications for the topic:

Yeah, provide him the option to 100% disable them entirely. I've not heard one whit about them in a positive manner since the migration, and I certainly don't have a current use-case for them (even after the upvotes plugin thing was adjusted).
Notifications are completely useless here IMHO.
-
@Tsaukpaetra I use the notifications when someone reply to me, the mention ones. But receiving all notifications in a topic just because you created it is stupid.
-
@fbmac said in Deleting topic does not remove notifications for the topic:

I've played around with the admin interface a bit. Jeffing things around is not easy, quick, or effortless. I could not find a way to change the owner of a topic or post (other than writing directly to the database, which again is not easy, quick, or effortless).
-
@NedFodder both of these are easy on discohorse

I like to go click on those with upvote info and then, if I get enough of them that day, I masturbate.

Yup, that's what happened. He started topic about himself and then couldn't deal with the fact that people were @-mentioning him there. In the fucking thread about him-fucking-self.

@kt_ If Ignore worked, that's all I would have done. It does not. So I hit delete. Which worked.

@Tsaukpaetra Yes.

Yes.

You could have ask the @mods to close the topic.
Remind me, what did you do when you were kicked out of the Lounge and you couldn't acces your posts anymore? Did you maybe bitch about it and told @end and Sam that they are incompetent morons by any chance?

Hey, I just like to jack off when I know that people like me, that's not weird, is it? I mean, I know that everybody probably does that. Well, everybody except @blakeyrat, of course.

I would too, if they were separable from the "all these people replied to the thread, click here to go to the end of it" notifications.
Heck, I even suggested a mockup UI for it when we first migrated, but it was not noticed...
