Also, apparently the hint is case sensitive (so, for XML, it's xml), otherwise it's ignored.
But the actual name of the language is "XML". "xml" is incorrect.
The great thing about open source software is that they get the large details wrong, but at the same time they also get all the tiny little details-- like how to spell "XML"-- wrong. Nothing's ever completely correct.

Status: this app can't be activated by the built-in administrator
Why the fuck not. I'm logged in as local Admin because I want to do adminy things like upgrade this box from 10 Home to 10 Pro so I can join it to the Domain. I don't have access to local accounts, I don't want to reset their passwords or make a temporary non-built-in admin login. Gah, Microsoft
Edit: I can't create a new account from the control panel because it tries to open a sodding metro app. The old 'control userpasswords2' still works, thank god.

My packet loss over the last 24 hr (traceroute twitter.com)
Look at that, the connection goes to hell during the time most people are awake. I have a feeling the repairmen won't be able to help me with their broken ass over-extended architecture.

Status: So, that crazy thing on my project I was fighting yesterday? I got it working.
The weirdest part was I couldn't get a DataTemplate to work right. If this is UWP, there's some strangeness with this new binding syntax. Like, this inner
{Binding ModuleName}
is bound to the global scope (DataContext
), instead of the current item, as you'd expect.I think. It's been a few months since I touched my half-complete UWP project.
-
@cartman82 both the documentation for a traditional binding and for x:bind say otherwise, but they don't work. There's no other way to access an element of a collection from a datatemplate anyway.

Experienced that about 4 years ago. After having literally more than ten visits, they finally sent a guy who ended up wiring up a dedicated line to the distribution point (basically a business line) instead of trying to patch us into the neighborhood's line. Granted, we're at the end of the line (INB4 Tron pun), but still...
I wonder if I have my own connectivity logs I had my NSLU2 unit generate...

Status: My Windows Phone has decided to stop telling me about new texts. Hm. Time to reboot it, and hope that fixes the problem.
I think I missed my lunch-ordering window due to that.
EDIT: PHEW! Order confirmed! I got my lunch with only 6 minutes to spare!
-
@blakeyrat You should try Android.
-
@Polygeekery Considering how Windows Phone is going, I might have to. But not without at least some kicking and screaming.
-
@blakeyrat I was just trying to rustle your jimmies.
I honestly did not expect that response. I don't even have a snappy comeback.
-
@Polygeekery Microsoft's Arrow launcher for Android is fucking awesome!

Yes.

Sadly, it's just like that a lot of the time now, though the latest fast ring version seems to have fixed all the recent issues. Still feels rather discoursistent.

Might as well get it out of the way now, just in case.

@blakeyrat said in The Official Status Thread:
My Windows Phone has decided to stop telling me about new texts.
Had that issue when I lost authentication to Google. But, given that I use Hangouts as my base SMS service, that should come as no surprise.
No, what's surprising is that it affected messages directed specifically to the phone itself (using the carrier number, not the GVoice number), in that Hangouts could see them, but their presence caused wackyness in the web interface for some reason (despite not having proper authentication on the phone working).
I blame some weird failsafe that should never happen (glitches stopped once I properly disassociated my phone from the services), but still, kinda weird...
-
@Magus I am at the mercy of AT&T's updates schedule, because they have to "re-test" all the updates that come from Microsoft.
Frankly, I trust Microsoft to do a quality job of testing their software about 40,000 times more than I trust AT&T to. But there's no way to opt-out of that particular "value added service". (Well, I guess you can use Developer Mode or whatever on the phone, but I have enough headaches in my life.)
-
@blakeyrat said in The Official Status Thread:
(Well, I guess you can use Developer Mode or whatever on the phone, but I have enough headaches in my life.)
That's essentially what I do. If you install the Insider Preview app, you can select the slow or fast rings for prerelease updates. The fast ring is alright, but for about two weeks my battery life was cut to 1/8 of normal and my phone was constantly warm/hot. It's actually better now than it started at least.
Definitely not for everyone. Unless you enjoy complaining about things online to a bunch of unsympathetic people in your industry.

If you bought an unlocked Windows Mobile phone that used the right LTE channels, you could bypass AT&Ts "added" "value" and just apply updates whenever MS or the phone maker provides them. Assuming you can find one, of course.
You probably don't want to, but you could if you did.

Hah. Well, this would certainly be the wrong place for that.
-
@FrostCat Verizon basically wants to forget that they ever supported Windows Phone, despite still selling the cheap ones afaik, so they never let me have updates. I've heard better things about AT&T, since that actually acknowledge that the phones exist and that some people, in fact, like them.
But in the end, the slow ring is a better choice for the average user, since your carrier has no say over your version then.

Cable guy takes a call while messing with my modem.
"Yes, you mean tonight? Yes, I can pack it up, not a problem... but that's a long ride. What if cops stop us? .... Yeah.... hmm...."
He stepped out now to deal with my cable stealing neighbors. I hope he fixes my problem before they arrest him.
