'Tis because Middle-click is considered a "Secondary click" (i.e. right-click) for some reason, while obviously left click anything is Primary.
-
The real bug is that the notification is dismissed only by clicking it and not by viewing the post. I shouldn't have to click a notification to clear it if I'm looking directly at the post it wants to take me to.
-
@ben_lubar ...well, I think it's better than clearing the notification just because you looked at any post, anywhere in that thread, like it does for mention notifications...

...not exactly. Actually, it's because it's hard... no, impossible to tell when the user follows a link, using only Javascript. Even if you trap both mouse buttons, the right-click menu can be used and you can't trap which option is chosen from that menu.
Basically the only good way to tell if a user follows a link is to make the link point to a landing page which tracks the click and then redirects to the correct URL. But then, that has to be done server-side.

right-click menu
context menu

so if it's the correct way to do things...... why isn't it being done here?

But then I wouldn't annoy the left-handers who use the mouse buttons reversed.

in a new tab
!! everything is mobilezes.
Twitter has the most fucked up new-tab-averse UI. I hope their hipster engineers share less code on StackOverflow, or the entire web will kill new-tab, back button, and refresh.

I'm pretty sure that's 100% intentional.

twitter's still online? i thought for sure they would have either folded for lack of VC or been bought and assimilated by Commandant Zuckerborg and his face of book.
