IN FACT, WE'RE GOING TO CHANGE YOUR DEFAULT BROWSER TO EDGE!
I didn't think browsers could change that in Windows 10? I thought it had to be done by the user in the control panel?

Well it was the last one that had Windows Media Center on it (kinda, I dread trying to reinstall if it ever breaks), which is practically the only thing I can get to work with my CableCard tuner (because apparently all digital channels are encrypted for record-once from my TV provider ).
Have you tried running it on a VM with PCI Passthrough?
-
@FrostCat said in The Windows 10 Random Error Generator:
I believe I even used that very word. :)
But for different thing.

ITYM "Settings app". But yeah.

By then, what would be the point? I'd have to passthrough both a discrete graphics card and the tuner itself, so this really would only make sense if I for some reason wanted my HTPC do... other things?
It works fine for what it's for, I don't yet have a compelling reason to virtualize it, since it only even accesses the internet when checking for IPG updates...

Use WMC or don't watch TV except on these $16/mo boxes",
Kodi doesn't do what you need?

Been awhile since I tried, but the end result was essentially: Decrypting channels for viewing is hard, and you're going to have a Bad Time if you don't use WMC.
Edit:
But I'll admit it might be time to retry investigations.

Why Linux and not BSDs for example? because hardware support is better,
Unless your supercomputer needs a GPU, then you're fucked.
-
@ben_lubar said in The Windows 10 Random Error Generator:
@TimeBandit except that both Google and Linux are better products than Windows, which costs money.
So I can play Skyrim on Chrome and Linux now?
Or Ben L is full of shit?

No, you just buy NVIDIA cards : http://www.nvidia.ca/object/unix.html
-
@TimeBandit ... oh I guess NVidia did port their CUDA shit to open source.
News to me.
The other, and far more important, point-- a university's 800-core networked monstrosity says absolutely nothing about how well Windows performs as a personal computer-- still applies.
How many of those super computers can play Skyrim?

Actually, it's been there for more than 10 years already.

UH, ACTUALLY, GUYZ!!!!!
I haven't seen an "uh, actually" post in awhile. Kudos.

What a shocker, you are still spreading bullshit that was not true at least 5 years ago !

TIL, the PS3 performs nicely as a personnal computer

You did learn that. Congratulations.
-
@TimeBandit it's also on Windows (and XBox 360), if the Wikipedia's not wrong.

@Gąska I think that had more to do with people desperate to get off Vista. Plus I believe it's the norm for home users to get a new PC every three years or so; MS could have hit a sweet spot w.r.t. that.
Which home users? The home users I know, including me, use a computer for ~10 years. Except for my dad because he still cannot decide whether to replace his old Windows 98 machine with this XP box he got somewhere.
Not to mention his regularly used Win 3.1 machine.

The 8.1 holdouts are probably all people who listen to Gabe Newell
Or people who use gear whose manufacturer is slow to make the drivers.

Technically [insert "the best kind of" macro here] true, but I don't usually bother distinguishing different types of idiots.

If you didn't have something to fake being outraged over, you'd actually have to work at thinking something up to fake being outraged over. Over in TL3 land, we have a calendar and list of topics known to set you off, and we take turns doing it.
Oh, I probably shouldn't have let the cat out of the bag.
-
@FrostCat I'd like to subscribe to this list. Can we change this thread's title?

Unfortunately, the Windows 10 installer can and does.

No and possibly but not on this count.
