Work to live, don't live to work.
You're just playing with words. I never meant "live to work". ;)
-
You said work 24/7, you're the one playing the words now
-
I'm actually trying to not play with them, but nobody really can. My point was you were just doing that, and nothing else. And then again.
-
You've never heard that phrase before?
People who work to live understand that there's a rich and varied spectrum of human experience outside of their vocation, and work so that they can support themselves as they experience whatever portion of that spectrum they personally enjoy. They understand that jobs come and go, but you only get one life, so it'd be a shame to burn yourself out trying to please the faceless corporate gods.
People who live to work think that their employment is not just a means but the single most important end. As long as they're needed, they'll sacrifice anything else: friends, family, hobbies, et cetera, in the pursuit of ever increasing status and salary. Their life has become about work.
-
Praise the @fox gods we have another idiot to play with.
Have you got around to addressing our points yet or are you another coward.

The stress free comes from laziness of thinking. You don't want to try thinking about everything, so you let other people do it for you. They get their deserved part, since not being lazy is the most valuable asset anyone can have today.
Or some people would rather not stress about work and instead stress about:
- Are my kids healthy?
- Is my family happy?
And other such things. Not necessarily laziness of thinking, but just different priorities.
Having the funds to start your own business comes from the laziness of saving. Or asking. Or working triple hours. You rather watch tv or play games.
Actually my problem in regards to lacking the funds to start my own business are more about wanting to spend time with my family, making sure we have a large enough home for all of us (trust me, a 1200sqft house with 3 kids under 7 is not fun), helping to pay the medical bills for my aging dad (his health is going, but he doesn't yet qualify for medicare, and he needs to finish some tests to prove eligibility for medicaid), etc. The saving is happening, just much more slowly than I'd like.
"Benefits provided by larger company" are in place to keep you lazy and under their hands.
Yeah, that's why I take time every year to see if I can get a better deal on my own (some years I can). Because I'm lazy.
You do have to work 24/7. If you don't want that, I call it lazy. You could also call lack of focus or objective in life. Or you actually have an objective: being lazy. That's fine.
Belgium you and your lazy train. People have more objectives than working or being lazy. The sole reason I work is to provide for my family. I picked a profession I enjoy so that I would have a chance to avoid mind-numbing drudgery. But work isn't the end goal. Taking care of my family and spending time with them is. That attitude has served me well, and has allowed me to advance my career more quickly than I ever expected.

What makes your kids or your family all that much more valuable than the rest of the world? They're only valuable to you and that's subjective, you (don't) see (.)? Neural Networks.
Family, family, family... Blergh. My family can take care of themselves.
-

Nice to know you are at the evolutionary level of a reptile who lays its eggs and walks away without caring what happens to its offspring.
-

Bullshit. People are valuable for many reasons, to many people, even beyond their own family.
Even ignoring that, you were arguing that working 24/7 is rewarding and enjoyable for you. That is your subjective opinion. You cannot claim that is objective (unless you are a fracking idiot). That is the point I was making: just because you live to work (I know you claim otherwise, but no other conclusion can be made from your posts on the subject) doesn't mean those who work to live are lazy. Just because you live to work doesn't mean that other people don't find fulfillment in other ways. Some people just prefer to live more rounded lives.
Given your current stated opinions, I can see three options:
- You would be miserable if you retired, because you wouldn't be able to stand not working. Therefore, you can never retire.
- You will grow up and realize that there is more to life than work. Unfortunately, this will probably come later in life and you'll scramble to make up for you're lost time in your later years. As a result, you'll probably spend more time recovering from injuries than actually enjoying the wonders that life can offer.
- You're lying about your opinions and don't think people who work to liver are lazy. You dirty lying liar MacLiarson.
Personally, I hope the third one is true. If I'm wrong, then are you doing on this forum instead of working? You lazy ass bastard.
-
"Benefits provided by larger company" are in place to keep you lazy and under their hands.
Yeah, kind of like a nice salary. Well, neither is really there to keep me lazy, of course. The opposite, really.
-
I don't live to work, nor do I work to live. Life isn't black and white.
And I am a freaking idiot, I thought that was already clear.
-
-
I was going to comment on that typo but got stuck trying to find a definition of the verb "liver".
-
Oh, can't edit old posts to add links... :(
-
trying to find a definition of the verb "liver"
The best I can think of would be coining a brand-new neologism meaning "to abuse one's liver" — He really livered-it-up at the party last night.
-
Actually my problem in regards to lacking the funds
If you could find a remote work with the same US level pay and move somewhere like here, the difference with the exchange rate and life cost is very huge.
-
I'm actually pretty happy with my current situation. I just tripled my house size last year, and I'm making enough to slowly build savings and put away a reasonable amount for retirement at the same time. I'm just not building savings at a rate that I could start a business any time soon.

That's actually my retirement plan: move somewhere cheaper where it never snows.
